It Gets Better: Scare Force One Photo-Op Had Also Been Planned Next Month... for DC
— Ace

Michelle Malkin mentions this, which I hadn't read, in summing up NOTUS' first 100 days of ruinous spending. (On everything except the military, of course.)

So, is it any wonder he would staff his White House Military Office with a clueless paper-pusher who saw nothing wrong with spending inordinate government resources – and recreating 9/11 havoc — to update Air Force One publicity shots? And who planned, believe it or not, to do the same in Washington, D.C., next month, where 53 passengers and 6 crew members on board American Airlines Flight 77, and 125 military and civilian personnel inside the Pentagon were murdered by the 9/11 jihadists?
All for some damned publicity shots.

Bammy's press conference is tonight, right? I'd like to hear a question about who exactly was riding on Scare Force One -- who got those wonderful near-intercept views of NYC skyscrapers; why waste a $330,000 air adventure without stocking it full of campaign donors? -- but I doubt I will.

"Priceless:" "For everything else, there's government."

5 I can't wait to see how the Left makes sure that His Holiness doesn't take any blame for this.
Frankly, it makes sense. Some dumb liaison guy in the White House (who is probably looking for a job) and some guy in the Air Force (whose career is probably dead) cooked up the scheme and His Holiness didn't even know about it.  After all, he doesn't keep track of where the spare Air Force One is at all times.
BUT...what if this had happened a year ago, during the dark days of Bush? Would the Left be so understanding? Somehow I doubt it.

6 Bloomberg:

Three-Hour Mission

That includes $300,658 for the larger plane, which flew a three-hour mission, and about $28,178 for the F-16 jets, which flew 1.8 hours each, Stein said in an e-mailed statement.

The total includes fuel used in flight, fuel used to power ground equipment used to prepare the aircraft, and ground maintenance, Stein said.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said yesterday’s flyover was “two training missions that became in the end a picture mission” and only Air Force personnel were aboard.

Agreed.

This is just another entry in the "What if Bush did it" file.

The amazing thing to me is that for the first time in the history of the United States, the President, in real time, made American citizens actually fear imminent death via the actions of the White House.

And noone fucking cares.

And, of course, Obama is "furious" about what his own fucking nominee and White House did. And the MMS cheerleads obama's anger as righteous while forgetting to report his fucking white house did it.

10 I used to take people down the "ditch" and circle around the "lady" when I had a Piper Comanche single. Looking down even from 500 feet, the Statue of Liberty looks real small. There were lots of helicopters buzzing around and you really had to look out. I don't see how you could get a decent picture of any combination from were that jet fighter was perched. This stinks of a joy ride. Where was Biden at that time? Was he running around inside air force one with a cowboy hat on goosing Specter?

13 I keep promoting movie picture conspiracies, but check out Salt, due out in 2010, starring Angelina Jolie.  Set in NYC and Washington DC.  The two places the plane flew and was scheduled to fly.  MayBee, at JOM, deserves the credit if this one pans out.  It sure is spooky how closely the movie plot would fit this.  And Gibbs saying at the end of a "picture" mission.  Well...you heard it from MayBee first...if it is/was what the plane was up to.

15 I don't believe anything Gibbs says. Don't expect any tough questions. Remember when Ed Henry of CNN asked Obama about his "outrage" over the AIG bonuses. Obama stared him down, dismissed him in a hostile manner and the next day Henry was wetting his pants all over the internet apologizing.

17 Unbelievable. Michele Obama is not one of the most attractive people in any room at any time, let alone in all of freaking America.

Michelle Obama, who has achieved celebrity status and has wowed the world as a fashion icon, made the list for the first time.

"I had a father and a brother who thought I was beautiful, and they made me feel that way every single day," Obama told the magazine.

"I grew up with very strong male role models who thought I was smart and fast and funny, so I heard that a lot. I know that there are many young girls who don't hear it. But I was fortunate," she added.

Also included in a "Barack's Beauties" section were White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, Treasury Secretary and others.

Also on the upcoming schedule:  A photo-op of Obama "pitching in" and helping out cattle farmers in Oklahoma.  At the event, our President will distribute bags of fertilizer to citizens in scenic downtown OKC.  Helping to generate the image of a footprint-concious individual, Obama will be delivering the bags of fertilizer from the back of one of U-Haul's exlcusive new hybrid line of rental vehicles.

23 LMA thinks he was on board.  Maybe.

Whoever the passengers were, this is what I think: he/they wanted to see what it was like to be one of the airline passenger victims on 9/11–or what it was like to be one of the terrorists

That there was a DC "photo-op" makes me think this--one or the other--was so even more.

Where was the photo plane? I doubt photographs were being taken from the F-16s. And you don't put your F-16 on autopilot to take photographs while flying in formation with Air Force One. Plus, the F-16's were behind and what looked like slightly below AF1, not the best place to take photographs from.

I think the only photographs taken were from inside AF1 by Obama buddies.

54 I'm not sure where I read this, but I seem to recall seeing something about how the magazines with Michelle on the cover actually didn't sell all that well, including Oprah's narcissistic little screed.

It's a two part process.  Circulation numbers are important, but the personal wealth of your readers and subscribers is more important.  The editions may not sell well, but it's not an indicator that the issue was a failure.

Continuing this point, it's the same reason why Dick Morris' column in the Hill today is so important.  The President just isn't popular anymore and his policies are himself have about a 20 point spread on average.

When the President tells auto executives, bond holders, and union leadership that the American people favor greater regulation from the federal government he is lying.

Seen at Big Hollywood.  Newsweek goes loony:

the latest issue featuring a “Star Wars”/”Star Trek” casting sidebar ripped from today’s political headlines?

The magazine, in a fit of adolescent whimsy, casts real-life political figures who might stand in for Captain Kirk, Darth Vader and other characters from the space franchises’ galaxies.

You can guess what followed:

The Emperor - Dick Cheney: “Manipulative, mysterious and superannuated.” Darth Vader - George W. Bush: “Callow newbie tempted to the Dark Side.” Boba Fett - Karl Rove: “Pitiless scalp collector.” Klingon Commander - Rush Limbaugh: “Villainous aggressor on the verge of war.

Of course, the mag didn’t leave Democratic figures out:

Captain Kirk - Rahm Emanuel: “Seriousness of purpose meets unbridled id. Mr. Spock - Obama: “Cool, collected … those ears.” Christine Chapel - Timothy Geitner: “Dubious but dependable helping hand.”

There's way more to this "joyride" than meets the eye.  Who knows if we'll ever find out.

As one of our more astute posts pointed out yesterday, we've now got a president who makes terrorists and dictators feel warm and fuzzy while terrorizing his own citizens.

Rush has dealt with more prezes than we have, and he said there is NO WAY Bambi and the rest of the WH didn't know about Scare Force 1 being up in the air because he has to be informed that it won't be available on that date and time.  And, for the first time, active duty military aren't heading up the scheduling of AF1.  The guy who is is ex-military but a political appointee.

But more importantly, this little exercise proved that this could be done again.  Creepy.

Only in the upside down world which is the Obama Presidency could spending money for new pictures of Air Force One be more important than funding the actual USAF.

Our local librag informed us yesterday that the photo-op flight was set up by the "DoD".  Obama was only mentioned once - when it said he was "furious".

Look, Air Force people fly it, crew it, gas it up and maintain it.  The White House decides when it flies, where it goes, and who gets on board.  Period.

Michelle Malkin has filed FOIA requests, from her website:

I saw that.

Thirty six months later they'll be denied because of "national security".

No Google, but I did know "the world turned upside down" question--it was the title of a chapter in a book I read as a young boy.  (I've got a pretty old book on American history/heritage...maybe 65 years?.)   The neat thing is that American history is told by folks that actually participated in/witnessed the history.  Last time I used the book was to re-read the transcription of the Patrick Henry "Give me Liberty" speech. Consensus is/was that he never actually wrote the speech down, just spoke from his heart.

You know, kinda like our current PoTUS...

Beside the joyride for big donors suggestion, and baldilocks' link suggesting the O was on it himself, I read somewhere today [the Corner?] that it might have been done as a favour for a Hollywood production about the Tuskegee Airmen. That the final scene of the movie is to have the black president's AF1 flight flying over NYC and over Washington presumably to show how far "they" have come. Something about 'red tails' in the title (I take it from their airplanes' markings).

Of course, the mag didn’t leave Democratic figures out:

Captain Kirk - Rahm Emanuel: “Seriousness of purpose meets unbridled id. Mr. Spock - Obama: “Cool, collected … those ears.” Christine Chapel - Timothy Geitner: “Dubious but dependable helping hand.”

Kirk - Rahm: Never let the Prime Directive get in the way of a good crisis.
Spock - Obama: They're both mixed blood, that's about it
Christine Chapel - Geithner: Always scheming to suck on the dick of their secret love, Spock/Obama

106 I would have loved to see AF One buzzing the Capitol while our intrepid Congresscritters stampeded each other to the bomb shelter to save their precious hides. The thought of Lurch Kerry sitting numb for 45 minutes then having himself photographed looking calm once the threat was known to be eliminated.

Any pictures of Bawney trying to run with his pants around his ankles would be comedy gold too.

Posted by: kbdabear at April 29, 2009 12:04 PM (miw86)

You've found the world’s most comfortable ugg boots. The thicker merino sheepskin used in our ugg boots cools your toes in summer and warms in winter to produce a supremely comfortable 22 degree constant temperature. Unlike other footwear, ugg boots are made from a natural insulator. Constantly circulating air prevents heat exchange keeping you comfortable regardless of the temperature. With thicker sheepskin we offer greater insulation, comfort and strength.
