Isn't Weiner on the Commerce and Energy Committees?
— Ace

Doesn't he get lobbied by FaceBook and Twitter?

If he wanted an investigation of this nefarious hacker, couldn't he just pick up the phone and call people eager to please him and tell them to find this horrible Teabagging hacker?

Wouldn't that investigation occur post-haste and on the snap?

Look, I actually apologize to everyone I jumped ugly on.

I am burned out.

This is an emotional thing at this point.

No, this is not the biggest story in the world. It is not as big as 200 other stories. I get that.

But it is a story.

I made it my crusade because the bigger stuff is beyond me. I understand that. I have tunnel-vision on my own tiny piece of the news here.

I get that.

But it is a story.

Biggest story? No. But pixels are cheap; they won't run out anytime soon.

And I don't understand, at this point, why it is is being treated as almost beneath mention.

I think I need a break.

Open blog, for a while. Will be back later.

Oh: If he was compromised on this, should he sit on committees overseeing companies that now kinda-sorta have leverage over him?

Like -- if my suspicions are correct, and there is no hacker prankster coked-up staffer having an epileptic fit and randomly dialing Weiner's passwords with his tongue -- wouldn't Twitter know that and have evidence of that?

Wouldn't that put Twitter in a rather good position in future meetings with Rep. Weiner?

Just asking.

9 Twitter has the IP address of (1) the person who sent the dick tweet; and (2) Weiner's subsequent hockey tweets.  Although not 100% conclusive, a comparison of those two IPs would almost certainly reveal the "hack versus dickslip" question.

17 This is a story that soon turn into a bigger story, because the dic pic is just the tip of the iceberg. That behavior isn't going to stop just because he let his weenie slip once. The guy is a perv and sooner or later it's going to come back and bite him on the ass. Look, how long did the media hold John Edwards' water? Holy shit. It tooks years before that fucker finally got his comeuppance. But he did, and Weiner will too.

Its frustrating because this whole sordid incident, irregardless of how it happened, is a bigger indictment of our times. A Congressman, or a staffer of a congressman, or a hacker intent on embarressing said Congressman, sends a picture of an erect penis to a college co-ed and no one cares. Most people don't care because, well, hell, maybe I wouldn't do that, but who am I to say what is proper and improper. Why imposing my morals on someone is wrong and bad --- I've been told that by all the enlightened folks around me. The media doesn't care because its a Democrat, he is enlightened and progressive so we must not interfer with his good work. Even the conservative media (the same conservative media, I would note, who love to give political advice to vote for  the fire breathing conservative irregardless of the state/district because these same people, who have never run a campaign in their life, believe that the more conservative candidate always wins) won't touch it for whatever reason.

Feel your pain Ace. But the hell with it. Soldier on. Someone, somewhere has to have some integrity ---- even if it is a bunch of Morons.

“Although this particular incident is a matter for law enforcement, it clearly indicates that hacking is a serious problem and as Chairman it would be appropriate for the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee to examine the issue of cybersecurity to protect our privacy and to ensure our national security,” Stearns said in an email to The Daily Caller.

Stearns is the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce CommitteeÂ’s subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, a committee on which Weiner sits.

If CNN actually went after the story, I think we would. But if their coverage this morning is any indication of how they are gonna handle it....not gonna happen.

CNN had Brietbart on and basically, between having his own credibility challenged over the Brown incident, he laid out what had happen. Then CNN roles out Jeffrey Tobin who then rips Brietbart and dismisses the whole thing as a "prank gone bad".

CNN can continue its downward spiral into obscurity.

That part of the story is bigger than any Brooklyn boner; and it gets bigger every day as Weiner squirms and his defenders on the left massage the facts to keep his reputation erect. This is how you get Capone:

“Although this particular incident is a matter for law enforcement, it clearly indicates that hacking is a serious problem and as Chairman it would be appropriate for the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee to examine the issue of cybersecurity to protect our privacy and to ensure our national security,” Rep. Cliff Stearns said in an email to The Daily Caller.

Stearns is the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce CommitteeÂ’s subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, a committee on which Weiner sits. Neither Weiner nor his spokesman Dave Arnold will say whether or not it is Weiner in the lewd photo.

Stearns should call the committe into session to investigate this very hacking attempt and put Anthony Weiner under oath and force him to testify. This is how you play hardball politics on a serious issue of "national security."

The news media need video. If there's no video, there's no realy story. A congressional hearing where Anthony Weiner takes the fifth provides them with the hook they need.

All the conservative forces have to work together to do their part and that means we need Ace doing his part, the political side doing their part and the Congressional campaign chairmen doing their part.

It takes a village.

Bash: "We don't know the answer to that. I actually asked Congressman Weiner's Press Secretary about that and didn't get a response. We do know from the Capitol Police and FBI that they are not investigating. There have been no requests that we can detect for a formal investigation."

King: Curious there. We'll keep tracking this curious case, Dana.

But it is a story.

Biggest story? No. But pixels are cheap; they won't run out anytime soon.

And I don't understand, at this point, why it is is being treated as almost beneath mention.

I think I need a break.

78 Have always said, NRO Wall Street Journal et al are David Frums in Conservative clothing. They want to be seen as the "legitimate" wing of the Republican Party, hence jumping on this before Weiner confesses, they believe, would put them in the same ballpark as teabaggers. If not the posters, definitely the editors. Look at HotAir, does anyone think Ed or Allah would have laid off of this story prior to being purchased by Townhall? Townhall has nothing on this story, not even a "just shut up". As Ace pointed out, Eds post is weak sauce at best, admission of censorship at worst. Thats not Eds writing or style.

If shirtless congressman + Craigslist = tons of press and congressman stepping down, and Sarah Palin + hacked email = criminal trial and huge press, you'd think that the potential for pantsless congressman + hacked(?) twitter WOULD = tons of press, criminal trial, and possiblly congressman stepping down. It is a news coup, a headline that bleeds from any angle. Every journalist should be salivating over this, for multiple reasons. Alas, alack, we live in a world where people are now equipped with the backbones of worms. Because you don't want to be the guy who stood up and did the right thing by insisting everybody be held to the same standard?

Because you don't want to be the big player? Fear of success thing?

Really. We stand in a part of the field out here that doesn't get many balls hit our way. This comes straight at you, you catch it and throw it back to the infield to get the guy who tagged up and you feel like you pressured second base to make a play on a slide?

The MSM would NEVER let this slide for an (R), they would delve into this until they had the exact wireless cell the tweet was sent from. They would drill into this like magma was a commodity. They would have a whole area of study with an accredited degree at Berkeley to investigate an (R) for this. If we won't even try to hold them to a similar standard and make them follow their own rules, we might as well give up this messaging war, because this is blatant and inexcusable.

90 The irony it burns

Eating supper watching stupid local news (owned by the Dem of course). They were whining greatly and showing poor deprived school children who may have to find another school to go to next year because of evil Rethuglicans in the State legislature.

It seems that a bill introduced by the commies to allow local schools to sell bond and borrow money for operating expenses was shot down.  No mention that this has always been prohibited because it is STUPID and a good way to go bankrupt. Also no mention of even the thought of cutting operating expenses.

In the VERY next segment they described a NEW program this summer to provide meals for children who would not get their free meals that were normally provided in school during the school year.

And the announcers are too stupid to note the irony of this shit.

Weiner won’t even deny he uploaded this picture. He won’t deny he is in the picture. He won’t even directly deny he sent the twitter, relying instead on intermediaries to say ‘obviously my facebook was hacked (yes, facebook)’ or ‘it was a prank’.

He could resolve conclusively, quickly, and with no cost, via Yfrog and Twitter, that the IP that uploaded these images wasnÂ’t his. We therefore already know Weiner doesnÂ’t want that aspect settled. We therefore can reliably say WeinerÂ’s account wasnÂ’t hacked.

He instead still relies on those services as though he has no concerns about their security.

And he spends all his time on twitter and youtube making personal insults about teapartiers and their leadership. His entire motif shows he would leap at a chance to prove such a person posted a pervy photo to harm WeinerÂ’s character. He is instead trying to minimize scrutiny and investigation, as though he only talks about serious issues. Just look at his twitter feed from the past monthsÂ… thatÂ’s ridiculous.

It is absurd to pretend we donÂ’t really understand whatÂ’s going on, or that there is a middle ground balanced analysis. DonÂ’t bury the story.

98 How did the "hacker" get Weiner's passwords and were Weiner's various other passwords, those that give him access to sensitive govt info, similarly available? Were his other accounts on various systems compromised and their info - some of which could affect national security - stolen and even now is being put to nefarious use?

If this is merely a story about a middle-aged man diddling around, then it's just fun to watch him squirm and to speculate on what his wife will do to him.

But by claiming that his secret passwords were stolen, Weiner himself has elevated it into something far more serious. Unless he were to just admit he lied about the hacking that is, and take his lumps.

Someone should really push the "what other passwords might have been compromised" line, cuz it has a logic that compels a proper investigation, no?

143 I sympathize with you, but the issue with NRO and The Weekly Standard is how they view themselves. They think of themselves as serious people who write about serious issues and thus are "loathe" to touch these icky "tabloid journalism" stories. They very much shy away from any personal life type stories until they are completely resolved, the most you'll get is a little mention about how other people are reporting on these types of stories. Why Fox News hasn't jammed this down the throat of CNN and MSNBC yet mystifies me though. The natural progression of this story should be bloggers->Brietbart&Glenn Beck->Fox->MSM->NRO&TWS with some wildcards like tabloids (they broke the Edwards deal for instance).

Maddening as it is, NRO and TWS will barely touch and link this stuff for a good while. They just don't like to delve into personal scandles the way pretty much all other media do now. The difference between the MSM laying off and NRO laying off is that NRO would still be laying off and just lightly reporting on the reporting even if it was a (R) instead of a (D) while the MSM would be shouting it from the mountain tops, enjoying the takedown with relish.

I wonder if Eliot Spitzer is going to cover this on his show tonight. Wiener should go on that show to see what his future looks like from the original Client #9.

Ace, you may have found the first break in the MBM wall.  If we cannot keep this story alive then alternative media is of little use in the coming collapse.  The American public will want trusted sources of news when the majority finally discover they have been lied to all these years.

OK, too serious.  Weiner is still a creepy suckerofcock.

166 George Orwell, yeah anthony sent it.  Simplest and most logical explanation.  He wanted to thrill a certain someone who was not his wife.  Instead of doing a DM, he Tweeted all his followers.  That is when his CYA brain reared up on its hairy hind legs and squawked, "I Wuz Hacked!"  If he had said "I had goofed", no one except his wife would probably care.  But he tried to Teddy Kennedy his way out of the jam, now he finds himself trying to make his CYA go away.  He dug himself a nice hole for him and his tent pole.

167 >>Good for Mark Levin. His default position now is that Weiner sent the dic-pic. Who's isn't? Which makes more sense, Weiner sent a pic of his dick to a chick or some mystery hacker who Weiner doesn't even care to find hacked into his account and did it? This could really hurt Weiner's political and personal life and he doesn't even care to find out who did it let alone see them punished? Doesn't pass the laugh test.

Posted by: JackStraw at May 31, 2011 01:33 PM (TMB3S)

168 I'd be surprised if low level drone sat Twitter or Facebook haven't already peeked at the tweet metadata, nevermind our national security folks. Blackmail potential alone should have Weiner and Dem leadership scrambling to exonerate him in any and all ways possible. Seriously. Like duh. Even all the young Twitter bimbos mutually following Weiner understand that. I think I get why Ace is so torn up about this. Yeah, Weiner's a sleazy, slippery motherfucker, and deserves some vicious turnabout more than 99.9% of the asshats in politics, but at the end of the day, this "scandal" is really juvenile, almost frivolous. And, in our "modern" world, that's all the more reason for Weiner to have been laughed off the stage by now. Establishing the basic facts of this incident should have taken a few keystrokes and mouseclicks, thus proving or disproving everyone's contentions in two or three minutes max. The "did he or didn't he" part of this story should have been settled by now, and we're sooo fucked as a country, if it drags on for more than another day. We should be debating the essence of the scandal, whether or not he should resign because of this misconduct, not chasing our collective tails like idiots. Weiner's continuing non-denial denials only serve to insult everyone's intelligence, and the media's heel dragging only makes a mockery of us all.

And don't forget Congress.   One of the more interesting dogs that didn't bark is that no one even thought to say "Hey, America's elected and married representatives wouldn't be exposing themselves to college co-eds!"

Nope.  No one is surprised that a member of congress did something like this.

I doubt it would have much impact on his political career.  He's a Democrat; it won't matter if ironclad proof that shows him to be a liar is uncovered- he'll still be re-elected.

Yeah, there'd be a couple days of jokes by late night comedians, an apology... and that's about it.

180 Still wrong. So - let's assume the pork product is genuine 100% Ant'ny. What, one asks, would that have to do with job performance? Favre chose to bob and weave and got away with it because he was on the way out the game's door anyway; he's left to explain it to his wife and the hogs on his farm. Lee chose to exit toute de suite because the weightlessness of the Congress career he'd accumulated to that point was such it could never survive the slightest pervy wankitude. But Weiner is different than either of those: he's already got an established pol career that's heading towards mayor of NYC or the Senate or maybe even Speaker, and he's still closer to the front of it than the end. Meanwhile, Barney practically flaunts his frankfurter daily around the news pole, and there isn't the sliightest hint that it will, or should, have the first thing to do with his qualifications as a pol. What really Ace wants after is whether Weiner is lying or misleading the public, not whether letting Roger out for a stroll or dangling it in front of some twinky who's sleepless in Seattle is appropriate conduct to represent a NYC district. Meanwhile, just formalizing the investigation into what superficially is and what may well be a puerile frank prank risks encouraging the one or two or ten million or so wannabe frank pranksters this guy and his name and his politics and his ambitions are bound to foster. So, Ace is not credible in asserting that the choice actually made amounts to a tell, or anything like it. What Ace is after is frankly, or rather frank, envy ... but, of Dana freaking Bash? Of the single biggest evidence that what FN does still qualifies as news? Man, that is some low stooping. I don't envy Weiner's dilemma (or the dilemma of that weiner either; so really pathetic looking), but how is this coverage different than towel snapping outside the boys shower, or droopy-grabby inside it? I realize Ace is trying to BRAND Weiner with this - but in the bargain, he is risking branding his own.

181 GO ahead and speak for Ace but not me, Rex. Cowardly Pervy jerks like Weiner don't deserve power, and I won't give him any that's for sure. I'm sick of people announcing how unimportant it is that a man needs or solicits narcissistic and other supplies from young starstruck women easily pushed over. I hope he's a punchline the rest of his life because contempt is all he's worthy of.

182 Pls continue to pour it on. Congressman sends a crotch shot to a barely legal coed on the opposite coast. It goes worldwide viral. Regardless of one's take on the morality of it THIS is a big story. Not as big as the economy, jobs etc, but BIG. ACE is playing a leading role on the Right. People much more technically savvy than me will ferret this out. Someone inside Weiner's camp with an axe to grind/money to make will come forward. Weiner's going down. ACE is a rally point.

This would be on the evening news, and there would be talk everywhere about Republican hypocrisy and "so-called" family values until he hung his head in shame and vacated his seat. Keep jumping ugly. Here's why this is a big effin deal.  This isn't about some wide stance or Barney love or  happy hooker time.  This is about a guy Twitter following girls half his age, at least  some who are still in high school.  What if this was before the internet and he was talking to them on the phone or sending notes?  Would we have ifnored it?  Now I don't know about you, but if a local councilman got caught doing that, let alone sending a pic of his boner, he'd be tarred and feathered.  Weenie is no different.  How many parents of these girls are now wondering exactly what their daughters may have received from the slimey Congressman?  We should be able to at least trust our leaders with our children.
