Iran Defector: United States' Role at Iranian Nuke Talks Is Chiefly to Serve as the "Spokesman" For Iran to the Rest of the Parties
— Ace

"The rest of the parties" being, I think, the UK, Germany, and France, because I imagine that Russia and China are mostly on Iran's side already.

An Iranian journalist writing about the nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran has defected. In an interview Amir Hossein Motaghi, has some harsh words for his native Iran. He also has a damning indictment of America's role in the nuclear negotiations.

“The U.S. negotiating team are mainly there to speak on Iran’s behalf with other members of the 5+1 countries and convince them of a deal," Motaghi told a TV station after just defecting from the Iranian delegation while abroad for the nuclear talks. The P 5 + 1 is made up of United States, United Kingdom, Russia, China, France, plus Germany.

The defector was an editor serving as media aid to President Hassan Rouhani.

A close media aide to Hassan Rouhani, the Iranian president, has sought political asylum in Switzerland after travelling to Lausanne to cover the nuclear talks between Tehran and the West.

So Obama is acting as Iran's mouthpiece.

Copying this over from the last Iran thread. It's a good classical lament-ish poem.

"Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?

Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?

Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?

Where is the spring and the harvest, and the tall corn growing?

They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow;

The days have gone down in the West behind the hills in shadow.

Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning,

Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning?"

110 >>What I don't understand is at this point, how will a deal with Iran be a positive legacy for Obama?

I would think even the die hard dipshit lefties know this won't turn out well.

Obama wants to make sure that America is permanently out of the Middle East - that is the desire legacy, setting up America's replacement (with enough nukes to make us or Israel think twice about challenging them). This is what makes Lefties happy: removing "imperialist" America from the equation.

And no, they don't understand the consequences. Think Obama does, though.

(early in his presidency) wanting to meet w/an Iranian leader when they were both at the UN and the Iranian leader declined and then gloated about Obama begging to meet with him afterward. They've done nothing but openly mock and humiliate Obama and Kerry throughout the talks and they just....take it.

Maybe we should start calling Kerry or Obama "Reek?"

216 @169 How did France get on the Security Council? --------------------- The Permanent Security Council of the UN is composed of the primary victors in World War 2. Russia, obviously, inherited the USSR's seat when the latter collapsed. And I'm sure there's a very interesting story relating to the PRC's seat. France, despite it's "crushed in short order" status early in the war, was treated as a full partner following Operation Torch for various reasons. This was despite the fact that the US was supplying essentially all of the equipment being used by the Free French forces (the British had been covering things before then; and before you go with the usual jokes about French fighting, read up on Bir Hakim). When the war ended, the French were treated as a full partner in the organization founded by the victors - the United Nations.

When sports teams compete, we have basic notions of fairness with regards to numbers of players, equipment, etc. All I'm saying is that the same principle applies to Iran, and to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. There ought to be a level playing field between Iran and everyone else. If they feel that they're our equals, I'm sure they'll behave nicely. Gone will be all the bitterness and resentment that causes them to use unfortunate rhetoric such as "great satan".

The Iranians paid way too much for this dumb fucker, but he's the closest thing to Jimmeh Carteh they'll see in this lifetime, so they gambled. In the end, hopefully, UN sanity will prevail and give both parties the cover to walk away from this.

508 Israel lashes out at Iran deal as sides work franticly to reach accord Kerry says Iran, world powers will work all night to work out 'tricky issues' as Israel's defense minister echoes Netanyahu in warning deal whitewashes Iran's support of terror, regional instability. Ynet Published: 03.30.15, 22:32 / Israel News US Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday that he and his global counterparts would be working into the night to resolve "tricky issues" blocking a nuclear deal with Iran. Follow Ynetnews on Facebook and Twitter According to Kerry, "There still remain some difficult issues. We are working very hard to work those through. We are working late into the night and obviously into tomorrow," Kerry told a CNN reporter in Lausanne, adding "everyone knows the meaning of tomorrow" when a deadline for the outlines of a deal expires at midnight. Defense Minister Ya'alon with Prime Minister Netanyahu (Photo: EPA) However, Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon warned against the deal, which he described as "bad" as it would leave Iran poised to create nuclear arms. "Iran is an evil regime which world powers are now giving a deal which is bad (because) it allows (Iran) to maintain some nuclear abilities while it continues to take over the Middle East," Ya'alon said in reference to events in Yemen. Speaking to a religious website, Ya'alon said "today there is no one in the West that denies Iran had a nuclear military program, unfortunately, the they are choosing to deal with it not in the way we think it should be dealt with." Earlier Monday Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lashed out again against the negotiations, saying that the Islamic Republic was benefitting from its aggression. "The emerging agreement in Lausanne sends a message that there is no price to pay for aggression, and conversely, there is a reward for Iran's aggression. The moderate and responsible states in the region, led by Israel and many others, are the first to be affected by this agreement," Netanyahu said. Photo: AP Tuesday is the self-imposed deadline for Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States to strike a framework nuclear deal with Iran. That deal, if it can be reached, is supposed to be the basis for a final accord by the end of June detailing steps for Iran to scale back its uranium enrichment and other technology that could be used to make nuclear arms. In return, Tehran would be rewarded with the easing of crippling economic sanctions. Meanwhile, Iran would not necessarily have to ship its stockpile of highly enriched uranium abroad under a nuclear pact with major powers, US State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said on Monday. Photo: AP You dont have to ship it out of the country to get to a year breakout time, she said in a conference call, referring to the goal of stretching the amount of time it would take Iran to acquire enough fissile material to make one atomic bomb. You can have some other dispositions for it that get us where we need to be in terms of our bottom line, Harf said. My G-D they are going to give in. And we have nothing to worry about, so says the Harf Wit

512 >>> and there was a State Department advisory against U.S. citizens traveling to the country? "no problem, you just don't carry a U.S. passport" I suspect that the former "Barry Soetero" was at that time still carrying his trusty Indonesian passport. My understanding is that you *could* hypothetically still go to Pakistan at that time on a U.S. passport, despite the travel advisory (not an outright travel ban). But that it was rare to do so, and doing so would get you a whole lot of stern and unpleasant attention from both the American FBI and the Pakistani ISI.

557 Congratulations Fucktard in Chief for prolonging "talks" and weakening sanctions to the point at which we're probably well past the point of Israeli air power being abe to take this out its own. For that matter we may now be past the point at which US airpower alone would do the job, what with all the hidden/fortified and remote sites, widespread centrifuge infrastructure, deeper talent pool of Iranian scientists etc. We (and by "we" I mean the treasonous bastards running this excuse for an Administration) has probably put this to a point at which, barring radical regime change, only (a) boots on the ground or (b) tactical nukes will do the trick. Which brings me back to the Israelis. At this point, having thoroughly fucked up a situation in which the US and the West could have had the Iranian nuclear program by the economic/technical balls, the most likely scenario, absent and prior to the nuclear annihilation of Israel and possibly one or two European capitals as well, is the pre emptive and entirely necessary use of tactical nukes by the Israelis against Iranian nuclear sites, followed by a general conventional war. Nice going.

Smiling proud and young
Smoking hemp, and snorting lines
And reeking of cow dung
There was never a tear in his blue eyes
Both dull and glazed were they
And young Barack Obama goes to lie
In the Rose Garden today

When he last stepped up that street
Smiling, prick in hand
Behind him minced in glum array
A craven, cowardly band
For America, for America
Boehner lept out of the fray
As young Barack Obama goes to lie
In the Rose Garden today

See the host of old white men
Dismayed with faces wan
From Ohio and Florida
They want our borders banned
They promise vengeance with *their* lies
But no fucks, no fucks give they
As young Barack Obama goes to lie
In the Rose Garden today
