I Just Couldn't Be Prouder
— Ace

Ace of Spades HQ is now the #7 reference for the MSN search "gay hairy asses."

And I owe it all to George W. Bush and Mr. Paul Anka.

And, if you have a blog: Make sure you have your SiteMeter button on all of your site's pages, not just the home page. I get a lot of traffic going directly to my archive pages (the white page with one post on it), but until five minutes ago, I never had my SiteMeter recording hits to those pages. Hits would only be recorded if someone then visited the main page. If they didn't go to the main page, it was as if they never visited at all.

You miss out on a lot of hits, especially regarding your linked articles, if you do it the dumb way I was doing it.

No wonder my one and only Instapundit link delivered me virtually no extra traffic.

I hope I'm not now double-counting.

"Shadowy Connections?": Okay, so I'm number 7 for "gay hairy asses."

Now I'm also #1 (whoo-hoo!) for "the Kerry girls" on Earthlink.

Say-- you don't think that that means...?

Nah. Couldn't be.

Although I'm now going to be looking for Adam's apples on those "gals."

Okay, This Site is Just Plain Filthy Update: And now Google ranks this Top Ten list as the #2 search for "top ten erotica."

Existential Recursion Update: A post noting that I didn't get a lot of recorded additional hits from my previous Instapundit link itself gets linked by Instapundit, resulting in a traffic flood that this time shows up in the numbers.

Now I know how to get Instapundit's attention-- just denigrate his traffic-granting abilities.

This is it? This is the so-called "Instalanche"? I must say, I'm disappointed.

1 Somewhere, Mrs. Ace just mumbled aloud: "Such a good boy, he was."

Well, *I'm proud of you. And that's what really matters, right? Right? Hello?

2 Ace, I read your site through a feed-reader. I only click through to the individual archives. I read your blog daily but rarely visit the front page.

The same is true for my own blog. I get around 1,000 hits a day, but about 500 of them are directly to archives.

3 The secret is to get your sitemeter to link with the Instapundit's archives....or maybe one of Wonkette's ***Exclusive, must credit Wonkette*** posts.

4 Emma,

My mom is so proud her teeth hurt.

Rob,

Well, if that's the case, then tomorrow should be a big traffic day. Based on your numbers, I guess I'm hoping for a permanent 50% "uptick" (actually, not an uptick, but an uptick in registered visits).

Until now, my traffic has been very consistent, which I guess is/was strange, given the fact that most people will occasionally have huge days when they get linked by a bigger blogger. I should have had more spiking upwards on big days, but I didn't.

Like I said, even when Instapundit linked me, I didn't get more than 200-300 additional hits, which struck me at the time as pretty strange. I was expecting thousands.

5 Today's been a crappy day traffic-wise (which is why I was finally motivated to try to fix the sitemeter glitch), but since I put the meter on the archive pages, I had by far my best hour ever.

It didn't hurt that I linked myself in freerepublic, either.

6 RS,

That's the next step.

Quit frankly, I don't see why CNN.com doesn't put my sitemeter on their site. It doesn't cost them anything.

7 While I'm not high on any overall list, the #1 search term that referred people to my fledgling mumblings is "Misty May big butt".

8 Nice.

9 Yeah, and now that Steven DenBeste is going away, you've got to come up with a new top referrer. Maybe an exclusive photo-shoot of Wonkette and Jessica Cutler?

10 Not only should you put it on every page, but a lot of folks also suggest you should put it as far down long the code as possible. That way if Sitemeter's site hangs, at least they can read the page.

11 You finally got your Insta-link, ace. Or has he done it before?

12 Insta-readers: Search the archive for "andrew sullivan". It's some primo stuff.
