I Hate It When That Happens
— LauraW.

You know how it is. You're at the local pub, pounding suds before a roaring fire, gazing boozily into the flickering flames, and BAM.

Epiphany time.

"Why, hey there, look at the poker sitting amongst the coals," you mutter to yourself. "It's glowing a delightful cherry red, innit?"

And then, naturally, you pull down your pants and ask your friends to brand your ass.

Always seems like a good idea at the time, doesn't it?
Heh, I know, I know. If I had a nickel for every....look, just don't ask.

Thanks to Eddiebear.

2 You realize, I hope, that that's essentially what W did to his fraternity pledges when he was at Yale -- and presumably had done to him when he was a pledge.

3 That burn mark looked like King Neptune emerging violently from the sea.  It's got the trident and everything.

Everything comes back to Bush, eventually.

I'm sure copious amounts of alcohol were involved in the Yale incident as well.

5 It's bad enough that he dropped his pants and dared his friends to brand him, he then goes and has his ass photographed and published in a major tabloid.

7 It's common among black frats, not white fraternities at Yale. I suggest you check obama's ass the next time you kiss it, munck.

8 YAAAAWN

I know, Bob, it's such a common practice as to be a dog-bites-man story.
What can I say? Slow news day.

9 I thought it was pretty lame until the one guy said "you can't even see it, do it again". That's when I had to laugh.

Back when I was at OU, in the Dark Ages of the 80's, the black fraternities used to brand their pledges with red-hot coat hangers fashioned to spell out their greek letters. Generally on the outside of their triceps. Dunno if this still goes on.

Obama went to Columbia and Harvard Law, not Yale.  It's about time we broke this long string of Yalies.

12 Oops...didn't see dlm's comment above. Guess it wasn't just a local thang.

13 I prefer the poker in the ear.

Calms the voices.  Quiet refreshing.

19 Bob Munck,
I've already told you that I don't care about you.
You may call me a liar if you wish but that would be par for the course for the sad, insignificant person you show yourself to be.
I pity you.

Actually, this sort of thing happened to me.

We were at the local pub, pounding puds before a roaring fire when I said, "Hey, why don't you guys shove that poker up my butt?"

Tim thought I said, "shove your poker up my butt".

I never got branded though.

C'mon now...Let's look at this, logically and realistically.

You have the option of a $400 tatoo of Betty-Boop, or........?

Hmmm...

Betty Boop?...Free brand with a red-hot poker?

yep...

Free brand, every time

What? Is this turning into letters to the Forum of Big Boi Butts for Men from Bob Munch?

Posted by: dlm at January 31, 2008 08:54 AM (wxBdh)

32

I don't know.  I managed to survive six years in the Marines with no brands or tattoos.  I watched enough Rawhide to figure branding was permanent and painful.  Tattoos look to be about the same.

Although I knew this girl...

34 Dang it, you know I hate to jump to Nom's defense, given how much I love to bust him for being rash and hasty, but if he says he graduated Ivy League I believe him, Bob. After all, you'd expect a hard-ass like that to live in NC. :-)

I don't currently live in NC.
