How Dumb Does Obama Think You Are? Very, Very Dumb
— DrewM

After saying McCain is trying to scare voters by telling people, Obama "doesn’t look like the other presidents on the currency, he’s a got a funny name.” an Obama spokesman claims they weren't playing the race card.

...He was referring to the fact that he didn’t come into the race with the history of others. It is not about race.

Uh huh, sure. Say, how much are you selling that bridge in Brooklyn for anyway?

The McCain camp isn't letting His Messiahness off the hook.

Barack Obama has played the race card, and he played it from the bottom of the deck. It’s divisive, negative, shameful and wrong.

McCain needs to fight back on this crap hard. Not only is it just wrong to label people racist for airing legitimate political differences but if McCain let's Obama control the terms of the debate he'd be toast.

3 The race card is sooo 1980s. The Obama campaign can do this all day as far as I'm concerned. We all know how this story goes: the McCain camp will protest and the MSM will counter by elevating some obscure racists kook who happens to vote R as representative of McCain voters. The Ds will push the same old narrative along with the MSM and everybody else who isn't a racemonger will start to view the Obama camp in a more cynical light.

Then he'll lose badly in Nov and America will be even more racist for making that happen, and everybody will roll their eyes some more.

8 Supposedly the black 'community' took back the N-word, which is why they're the only ones who use it, and use it gratuitously.

Will this be the point at which people take back the 'R-word?'  Frankly, I'm becoming more and more likely to laugh in the face of anyone who calls me a racist for anything I do.  It's lost any stigma since it's become so over-used.

Not the Jeremiah Wright, not the Father Pfleger, not the John McCain.

You criticize an ad basically calling your candidate clueless by saying, "We were clueless."

From the Obama camp:

“This is a race about big challenges—a slumping economy, a broken foreign policy, and an energy crisis for everyone but the oil companies. Barack Obama in no way believes that the McCain campaign is using race as an issue, but he does believe they’re using the same old low-road politics to distract voters from the real issues in this campaign, and those are the issues he’ll continue to talk about.”

The House just apologised for slavery and Jim Crow again. This is laying the groundwork for reparations. Which Obama supports. (h/t, Best of the Web Today)

I don't think we're going to get a formal reparations bill from BHO. I do think we are going to get several social programmes sold to us as "reparative"; meaning that we have to support them for "community cohesion", as the Brits call it.

Longtime commentors should make predictions about the election. It might be fun to see who was right in a few months. I will go on the record thinking that Obama will win. McCain is too weak and uninspiring. Obama will be a bumbler and we'll likely take back part of Congress in the midterms.

17 I think McCain needs to show some message discipline.  He's always responding to Obama.  He always comes off as unnerved and irritated and obsessed.  He's right about this message, but sometimes it's more important to be focused than to be right.  Otherwise all your complaints get dumped into the same bag and you seem like a partisan malcontent who needs to drink a glass of prune juice.

Posted by: oops at July 31, 2008 09:04 AM (TBoxe)

that is a great idea! Not only your prediction, but your reasons for it.

Maybe a post where everyone submits his comments.

Then on 5th Nov, we analyze it all, and laugh at you for your wrong prediction (hopefully).

Wait a minute. I'm suppose to believe that:

“You know, he doesn’t look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills.”

Is really just another way of saying:

[from the link]“What Barack Obama was talking about was that he didn’t get here after spending decades in Washington,” Gibbs said Thursday.

You really can't make this shit up.

This is like the perfect storm of gaffes.

1. There is only ONE President on the "dollar bills". That would be George Washington.

2. How many decades did President George Washington spend in D.C. before he became POTUS? Considering that D.C. wasn't founded until July, 16, 1790 and he became President on April 30, 1789, I think the answer is zero.

3. (Assuming he meant "...all the presidents on the dollar bills our currency".) "All the Presidents"... He does know that Alexander Hamilton and Benjamin Franklin were in fact NOT Presidents, right? If he does, he sure didn't convey that knowledge with this speach.

Unbelievable that this guy has a chance a being President.

21 I agree with everyone who says Obama's attempt to tar anyone who criticizes him as racist will backfire, and backfire badly. Americans are sick of this shit. It's a brownshirt way to squelch free speech and if there's anything Americans hate, it's attempts to shut them up.

Posted by: CFB at July 31, 2008 09:14 AM (8r/RM)

McCain should come out and say "He's right. We do think he's different. Our most recent ad compares him to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton".

Others have said it, but if Barry manages to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, Bush Derangement Syndrome will look like a stubbed toe.  The US will be the racist shithole that every Howard Zinn fan says it is.

The best part of that scenario is that McCain's love affair with the press, with his media-approved positions that he's taken to innoculate himself from being portrayed as being just another bigoted Republican, will be all for nothing.  He'll still be the asshole racist GOPer that robbed Obambi of his rightful victory.  McCain's presidency will be the surest sign that America is as bad as the left says it is.

I dunno what that means, but I'm thinking about stocking up the bunker if either of these jerks win.

What Barack Obama was talking about was that he didn’t get here after spending decades in Washington, There is nothing more to this than the fact that he was describing that he was new to the political scene.

Ok, so all our representatives in Washington look the same; because decades of political work in Washington makes them look the same...  really?

That's the answer you're going to go with?  You can't come up with a better one than that?  Seriously, we'll wait if you want to try...

I'd agree, but Vader never used the Jedi Mind Trick as far as I can remember.  And I'm an original trilogy fan, (fuck you George Lucas with your poorly written and directed prequels!) so I'd want to go with those.

That leaves Obi-wan with the stormtrooper on Tatooine, or Luke Skywalker with Bib Fortuna.  And well Luke was wearing a black cloak so if you went with him that would be racist.   Though Fortuna would work much better as the MSM for his sycophantic characteristics.

31 Senator Obama is dangerous (with proposed social policies that more-than-casually resemble socialism and facism) and is apparently a racist himself.  Honestly?  If he's not elected because of his race, it's problematic, but not the end of the world:  If Sen. Obama IS elected, we'll have to deal with attempts to pervert the role of our government AND racism, whereas if Senator McCain is elected on purely the basis of racism, at least we'll have only the racism battle to fight.  This election may turn out to be a lot like picking the whore with the fewest diseases.

Posted by: jazz at July 31, 2008 11:09 AM (sUWlR)

This is purely a rumor at this point, but some democrat forums have been circulating the suggestion that there are some more potent race-related images that might show up in October.

I don't want to sound paranoid, but Obama runs a very disciplined campaign and is vastly superior to McCain when it comes to staying on message and knocking McCain off his.

Posted by: oops at July 31, 2008 11:40 AM (l8Z9Y)

What I don't understand is why he is warning a crowd of adoring Democrats (cue applause) to beware of Republican racist advertising wizardry.

Does he think they are susceptible?

We know what Gallup says, but I am staring wonder what his own internal polling is showing. I wonder if he senses that the Heavens may be less impressed with his genius than Harvard was.

After all, words are like wings of wax. Even on the cloudiest day, Icarus can only soar so high in a speech before he finds himself alone, clutching a bunch of pale, greasy, matted, disconnected phrases.

And plunging into the sea.

I smell a whiff of desperation in the Obama camp.  They're stagnating/headed south in the polls, the flip-flops keep adding up, he's on the wrong side of the three biggest issues (Iraq, energy and taxes), even Jake Tapper has turned against him and the PUMAs are lying in wait.

Denver is sucking all the money out of the DNC and there won't be anything left for the last six weeks.

Meanwhile, McCain is bobbing, weaving, conserving his strength, taking the punches and throwing a few back.  And playing the underdog role very well.  He's got tons of money and the Silent Majority.

Anything can happen, but we're in a fairly decent position right now.  Of course, it all comes down to the debates, the turnout organization and the October ad blitz.  But for now, he's looking ok.

45 Barack Obama wasn't "playing the race card" any more in his comments than John McCain was "playing the racist" when he linked Obama to young white women (as though that has no bad images in our nation's history) or when he allowed the word "FOREIGN" to linger next to Obama's face in the same ad which he was "proud of."

Obama was bringing up the fact that they were trying to scare Americans by using his race. In fact McCain's saying that he's "using the race card" is more of the same.

John McCain was "playing the racist" when he linked Obama to young white women

How you figure that, Kelly?  The ad, which has apparently drawn blood in the O's polling, (witness the hysterical shrieking from his camp), links Obama to the weightless celebs of the day.  That they happen to be white women is irrelevent.  The obvious point is that, like Paris Hilton, Obama has become famous for being famous.  That a lightweight Chicago machine politician, with little to no accomplishments, stands as the Democratic nominee says a lot about the party.  None complimentary.

The Democratic party has their beer googles on and I'm loving it.

Whattaya bet Kelly here won't be tricked into moving off-script just by you asking direct questions, Mr Toby, you hatemonger you.  She might or might not even try to answer them, but I'm betting on "might not."
2/ Also, Mr Hussein, you hatemongering monger of hate, you need to know that the critically important verb "linked to" has an infinitely malleable definition.  Ipso Facto, all attacks on the shallowness, vanity, stupidity, and crassness of Blowbama are automatically racist, AND complaining about it is racist.
3/ If you fail to fall for that, you mongerly haterizer of hatredly hate, then you're a bad person, and are therefore wrong about tax policy and stuff like that.  Corporate shill, too, I shouldn't wonder.  Hmf.
