Horrifying NYT Article Praises Jim McGreevey, and Absolves Him of His Real Political and Personal Sins, Just For Being Gay
— Ace

I've said this before and I'll say it again:

I have no problem with the idea that gays are equal to any other American. I have no personal problem with accepting that I'm not better than thy are -- I don't even concede that grudgingly. I concede it happily.

My problems begin with the faction that is so pro-gay they believe homosexuals are naturally superior to the straight, and that simply by being gay, they are cleansed of all sins.

As this article (link to Althouse, who calls it embarrassing) strongly suggests. The article is headlined something about Jim McGreevey's "redemption" -- he is Redeemed through being gay -- which is a furtherance of the line taken in a documentary about him mentioned in the article, called "Fall to Grace."

See, he didn't fall from Grace by betraying his wife. Who, even though she is just a lowly breeder, is, last time I checked, still a human being, whose feelings, while not gay feelings, still, get this, matter.

And he didn't fall from Grace in putting his boyfriend on the state payroll - a major political scandal, of course, for any heterosexual.

No, see, he's fallen to grace by accepting himself for what he is.

Embarrassing. And, in its own goofy way, rather hateful when you think about it.

Is there no common-sense middle position here on how we treat and write about minorities of any stripe? Is proof of Tolerance only achieved by imagining them to be Earthbound Angels sent to redeem us?

Is it possible to treat a minority as a human being, flaws and all? Or are they all Secular Saints?

Can one merely like minorities without degenerating into this bathetic game of "I Love Them More Than You!!!"?

A Bit Unfair: Although the piece is gushy and fawn-y, it's not true, as I said, that it asserts that McGreevey's redemption comes from being gay.

His redemption, the article claims, comes from actual redemption:

After he stepped down in Trenton, the shock sent him for a month to the Meadows, a rehabilitation center in Arizona. Relentlessly excavating his heart and soul, he later went into psychotherapy and resurrected the calling he said he had felt since he was an altar boy in Carteret, N.J.

Now an Episcopalian with a degree in divinity from the General Theological Seminary, he’s embracing the Lord’s work with the same fervor with which he once pursued politics. Though the Newark diocese denied his bid for the priesthood last year, inciting another painful round of headlines about his past, he says he is at peace.

As a recovery specialist who preaches the Gospel, Mr. McGreevey spends much of his time in the Hudson County Correctional Center in Kearny, N.J., working with women fighting addiction through the nonprofit organization Integrity House. His message: No matter how far you’ve fallen, redemption is within reach.

Still, look: For God's sakes, we've seen this Rinse Lather Repeat cycle with fallen politicians seventeen bazillion times. And yet not a dollop of skepticism from the NYT.

Because he's not Southern or Republican, we know his conversion is Genuine.

This is not doing the Gay Cause any good. Because it gets very hard to argue that there is no reason not to accept gays as equal members of society when the more florid proponents of that notion do in fact seem to want to "actively promote the gay lifestyle," just as its critics charge.

I think a lot of traditionalists actually don't mind gays all that much. What they really fear is a concerted push by the media to actively champion homosexuality as preferable to heterosexuality. And the media's unrelentingly "Yo go, gay!" boosterism makes this a tough thing to refute.

How about -- let's treat like people. Okay? Because I swear to God, the pro-gay-zealots at the NYT might be surprised to discover this, but gays are in fact human beings. Nothing less, but also nothing more.

Two More Thoughts: Maybe this article just represents an irresistible one-two combination for the NYT, a liberal and gay newspaper: a liberal politician and a gay one.

It also occurs to me that the NYT will only discuss Christianity in a halfway favorable light if a fallen liberal Democrat is embracing it.

Normal people who haven't had to quit office due to scandal? Well, they're monsters for practicing a 2000 year old religion.

But McGreevey? Well, he's allowed.

Minorities and fallen Democratic politicians are the only people the NYT will accept saying the words "Jesus Christ" or be photographed toting a Bible to Photo Op Mass.

24 Redemption in the Christian tradition involves metanoia; a radical reorientation of one's worldview.

Liberalism is a branch of Christianity (Calvinist, here), just without God and tradition. Metanoia in Liberalism involves changing one's life to accept Liberalism in one's heart. One admits one's sin - the sin of being traditional in some way - and one repents of it.

Yep

I had friends in college who I assume in retrospect were gay, but we never made a deal of it. I also never went around talking about heterosexuality, etc.

Granted, I'm a bigot on this; I think it's appropriate to have a little fun in the right company about sex as a topic, but homosexuals are excluded from doing this with me because I'm not homosexual.

Which is to say, they can talk about attractiveness and things in their own company, but not in mine.

If it just so happens that it's hard to find gay people to chat about this with, you have my sympathies but I don't need to hear about your hard-on.

Thanks!

53 When I was being indoctrinated into Leftism in college as a young white male, what really swayed me to the right was the constant drumbeat of: "You and everyone like you are the worst people who ever lived, and are responsible for all evil and wrongdoing. Everyone else is innocent, and your personal victim."

You get this in every single class, no matter the subject matter, and it gets tiring. At first, you admit that your ancestors did some bad things. But you eventually rebel and refuse to accept it, as you realize that you will never be forgiven for these vague sins that you personally had nothing to do with. You realize that what the Left really wants is endless demonization of your kind and its cultural contributions, along with the replacement of America with something else entirely. Screw 'em.

69 In an interview with the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz (August 19, 2004), Cipel stated that his situation was intentionally misrepresented by the governor's office and affirmed that he had never actually been responsible for internal security under the governor.[7] According to Cipel, the press had distorted his history, transforming him from someone who had self-published a book of poetry at age sixteen into a "poet." He claims such distortions supported the story that McGreevey allegedly created and the press eagerly covered. In his own words, Cipel claims he was one of many victims of McGreevey's sexual harassment, that he had "no romantic affair" with the governor, but rather was taken advantage of.[8] He also describes the former governor's behavior as egotistical, unprofessional, immoral, and immature. http://goo.gl/19guI

See, this is the exact same problem I have with feminists, and racialists, and every other -ist or -ism.  These groups preach about the need for "equality," but that's not what they REALLY want.  What they really want, deep down inside -- and often quite close to the surface -- is     to   be acknowledged as superior    to   whatever opposition group they choose to oppose.  Gays want to be viewed as superior to straights; feminists want to be viewed as superior not only to men, but to women who don't fall into their brainwashing trap; racialists want to be viewed as superior to whatever "hegemonic" racial or ethnic group they consider to be the ones in power.

When we're kids,   we   all want to be the one who wins the race, or     the spelling bee, or takes home the Homecoming crown.  We always want to be The Best.   Even as adults, that spirit of competition still drives many of us.       The problem with these special interest groups is that they've taken this thirst for dominance    from being an individual goal based on merit and turned it into a social goal based on absolutely jack shit.     It's got nothing to do with merit and everything     to do with perceived social injustices.

Have these groups suffered undue social remonstrations in the past?  Absolutely.

Do I feel responsible for any of it?  Nope.

Do I feel I owe them anything for it?  Nope.

Do I feel that being told over and over again that I'm a   worthless     breeder who's   bought into the white patriarchy     is   going to change my mind and make me me    amenable to any particular group's goals?    Nope.   In fact, their constant drumbeat of victimhood     has more or less convinced me to tell them all to go to hell and     get fucked,   though I'm kind enough to let them choose     the order of those two actions.

See, I don't hate gays, or blacks, or hispanics, or women (well, maybe women).    What I    hate     are    fake   victims,       whose only source of self-enfranchisement is their alleged victimhood.      It's insulting to true victims of any    kind,    and    it's   insulting to me as a person    who would rather spit in the eye of    an attacker than EVER play the victim.

74 Oh I dunno, I liked the second set.

It's actually a conservative message if you think about it. On the first set, Lord Foul took the Staff of Law; Covenant then destroyed the Staff. But this weakened Law itself. So, between the first and the second sets, Lord Foul rewrote the Law to serve himself.

This made the Land in the second set (Foul writes the rules) a far, far nastier place than it was in the first (Foul has to play within the rules).

82 53 When I was being indoctrinated into Leftism in college as a young white male, what really swayed me to the right was the constant drumbeat of: "You and everyone like you are the worst people who ever lived, and are responsible for all evil and wrongdoing. Everyone else is innocent, and your personal victim." You get this in every single class, no matter the subject matter, and it gets tiring. Screw 'em. I'll second that.  It's nearly 3 O'Clock in the afternoon here.  Time to do some reflecting..... bbl

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

Were the whole realm of nature mine,
    That were a present far too small;
    Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.

"The last time in a movie or TV the killer turned out to be gay?"

What's his name's character in "American Beauty"  -- Chris Cooper?   the ultra disciplinarian, Nazi-memorabilia collecting guy -- turned out to be a repressed homosexual.   Ended up murdering Kevin Spacey because Kevin Spacey found out about it when Chris Cooper kissed him.   Kevin Spacey was all, "Hey, it's okay, you just made a mistake.  I'm not gay.  Good luck."  And Chris Cooper was all, "FUCK YOU!" and killed him.

Kevin Spacey   =   Super cool progressive dad

Chris Cooper = Evil    right wing extremist with Nazi fetish

But we were supposed to feel sorry for Cooper anyway, because Teh Ghey.   It wasn't his fault his parents had taught him that Gay Was     Evil.   If his parents had been more like Kevin Spacey, he'd have been a totally hip, swinging gay dude.

Good Lord, how I hate that movie.   I have to go wash my eyes with bleach now.  BRB.

Senate passes gas tax, Baltimore schools bill

Gas tax to see first increase since 1992

By Michael Dresser, The Baltimore Sun

3:52 PM EDT, March 29, 2013

The Maryland Senate gave final approval Friday to Gov. Martin O'Malley's proposed increase in the state's tax on gasoline.

The vote was 27-20 on the landmark transportation revenue bill. The measure goes now to O'Malley for his expected signature.

After the vote, the Senate moved quickly to approve, 40-7, legislation to enable the Baltimore school system to finance $1 billion in school construction and repairs. That bill needs to go back to the House for approval of a minor amendment, which is expected.

The gas legislation will raise taxes on gasoline in stages over the next four years — with a roughly 4-cent increase coming July 1. By 2016, unless Congress allows states to tax Internet sales, motorists in Maryland are likely to be paying at least 16 cents more than the current 23.5 cents a gallon. That rate has been in effect since 1992.

When the phased-in increases are fully implemented, motorists in Maryland will pay about $600 million more in gas taxes than they do now. The increases would continue beyond that because the measure ties the state's 23.5-cents-a-gallon gas excise tax to the Consumer Price Index.

Senate Minority Leader E. J. Pipkin, an Eastern Shore Republican, sharply criticized the gas tax, saying the bill would raise gas taxes on motorists 86 percent in order to continue subsidizing mass transit systems used by 8 percent of the state's residents.

Interesting, I was shocked.shocked. to read about the very high rate of divorce among the lesbians. I would've thought it'd have been zero based on the lesbian bed death stereotype. So yeah, it's hard. But thanks to the ghey mafia there's no anti-SSM push back allowed. 224 I feel like the gays have more than equal rights these days. They even have a symbol to flap in our face. Where is my symbol? I am a female, conservative, married old redneck Southern former super-model WASP who is anti-jug-ear.
I want a symbol, too!

My question is this: Are they over-reaching? It is being shoved in our faces, night and day, at SCOTUS and in churches. When will they feel equal? Somehow I do not think marriage will do it. We will have to all come out of the closet to make everyone happy.

I am sick of this topic. You make some good points, Ace. This "redemption from being gay because you are a liberal Dem who found religion" is spot on. Ten years ago it was not cool to either be married or religious. What has changed? Oh, yeah, this small minority, whose statistics are not really known (one in ten my supermodel behind), nor are they scientifically known to be "born this way." But, like global warming, give them an inch and they will take it a country mile in the liberal media and on social networks. Their plan is winning!

Now, where is my basketball, y'all?  I already thought the Florida Gulf Coast U. Eagles were awesome to behold, but then I read today that Florida Gulf Coast U., playing the Gators tonight, has a conservative economics dept who believes in capitalism! Liberal wonks are calling to cheer against these boys due to the economics deptartment. From Business Insider: "Every economics student gets a copy of Ayn Rand's objectivist novel Atlas Shrugged"

225 To my knowledge Mark Sanford is not as corrupt as McGreevy and did not have his campaigns bankrolled by the mafia. He is a crook.

226 Take a cock in the ass and get out of jail free.  Ironic.

227 The Episcopal Church not only had a priest who claimed she could be a Muslim at the same time. They also had a Priest (male) who was the head of some Druid group while simultaneously serving as an Episcopal Minister. McGreevey's theology may have-compared to that have been fairly Orthodox. It was his affair that caused his rejection: "According to a source at the Episcopal Diocese of Newark, his rejection was not for "being gay but for being a jackass." Apparently, the fact that he came out during a press conference — at which he made his then-wife stand by his side — and then endured a contentious, ugly divorce didn't sit too well with church leaders. "He was sort of looking for every angle to make a complete redo of his professional life," another church source told the tabloid. "He ran to the church for some kind of cover, which isn't fully appropriate. Even if he's a good guy, he should wait five to 10 years to get over his issues." McGreevey's been telling friends he was told he needed a few more years of "seasoning" before he could get behind the pulpit. Apparently, "seasoning" is church code for "waiting until people forget that you and your wife used to have threesomes with a campaign staffer."

228 "Take a cock in the ass and get out of jail free."

You got that backwards.

229 Once upon a time they said religion was one of the last refuges of scoundrels. Now sodomy is.

How times change.

230 " think a lot of traditionalists actually don't mind gays all that much. What they really fear is a concerted push by the media to actively champion homosexuality as preferable to heterosexuality. And the media's unrelentingly "Yo go, gay!" boosterism makes this a tough thing to refute."

Actually I think their fear is to be criminalized for believing what they've believed for 2 thousand years. Its happening in England and Canada as we write.

"At the age of 55 I have lost 1 hetero son at the age of 25. My only other (younger) son has identified as Gay. I love(d) both. I miss my first son and I love my second son. That is all." - olddog

I am truly sorry for your pain. May your late son rest in peace and your remaining son find his, and may you find peace as well.  Bless you.

233 Stop the BS. Obama is a third rate politician. He's black & he's liberal in a pop culture & media that is overwhelmingly liberal. Take away his uncritical cock-sucking media and he wins two states in 2012. Oh... And let's not forget all the help he gets from the hapless GOP.

234 McGreevey was also just on some entertainment/celeb 'news' show my wife watches. There is obviously a coordinated campaign starting.

235 The Gay Cause is alive and kicking in San Francisco.

Warning, this is so NSFW that your monitor will crack. But it was all done in public.

236 "The last time in a movie or TV the killer turned out to be gay"

In the Psych episode "Chivalry Is Not Dead...But Someone Is", the murderer turns out to be a lesbian. Her lesbianism isn't actually revealed until she's caught, though.

"Gay boy comes out to class (i.e., announces implicitly that he takes it in the butt.) Teacher and class applaud him."

Maybe they assume he's on top.
