Hey Slu, I Raise You A Gubernatorial Candidate Threatening A Reporter. NY GOP Candidate Paladino Threatens To "Take Care Of" NY Post State Editor
— DrewM

Maine? Fuggetabout it. NY is the place with a crazy candidate starting a fight.

Apparently this has something to do with Paladino charging that Andrew Cuomo has an illegitimate daughter or was unfaithful to his ex-wife (more on that here). Paladino has acknowledge he has a 10 year old daughter with a woman other than his long time wife.

I knew Dicker a bit back when I was in college and interned at a TV station that he appeared on regularly. He's an old school reporter who doesn't really like anyone, though if anything he seemed to lean a bit to the right (at least on spending and open government issues). Plus, he writes for the NY Post, not exactly a hotbed of liberalism in NY.

Dicker pretty much takes on whoever is in power. The idea that he's a shill for Cuomo strikes me as pretty silly (maybe not, see update). That said, he's not going to go printing unsubstantiated crap on a Republicans behalf either.

I know people love Paladino's fighting style but it's a thin line between that and an irresponsible loose cannon. I think if you are going to charge someone else with the sin you committed, you better provide the evidence at that time.

UPDATE: I have to admit, I haven't read Dicker much lately but after going through some of his recent columns, he does seem to be backing Cuomo.

I'm not sure that makes Paladino's behavior much better but it does put it in a somewhat different light.

1 I just don't see that anyone would be as vile as Cuomo.

I wouldn't cross the street to piss on him if he was on fire.

6 I don't know when this incident took place but I read a Dicker column a week or more back, and I thought it was odd that he was attacking Paladino. I thought he would be more favorable to the conservative candidate. Maybe he is working for Cuomo.

11 The reporter was far too aggressive not to have an agenda. Paladino might be a jerk, but the reporter is granted privileges and access in return for a modicum of good behavior. Apparently this guy didn't get the memo.

16 If Paladino has a hotel-based party election night, that might be a good place for a moron meetup?  My guess is that he doesn't win, but other than going to Michael Grimm's headquarters on Staten Island, no center-right candidate will win in NYC...

33 The narrative is that Cuomo will win big, but the polls had Lazio crushing Paladino up until election eve, when they called it a dead heat. Paladino beat him something like 70-30. So I think this year is a complete wild card. Scott Brown taking Uncle Teddy's seat pretty much set the tone.

A lot of people in NY are intimidated by the Dem machine into saying what is expected.  I know a lot of them, including some union ones who say what needs to be said but will definitley vote republican.  It's a shame to have to be that fearful of taking Cuomo on.  Paladino is one who is NOT afraid of anything.  Some that I know who would say different, feel he'd be a relief after all the beat downs the Dems have inflicted on New Yorkers.  We may just catch a break this time.  Fingers crossed.

Just a thought:  maybe the NY-MFM is even worse than the national MFM, such that it hides what the NY electorate is thinking even better?  Such doesn't make Paladino the idea candidate, but it may set up a surprise on 11/2?

Pretty fucked up.  No winners here.

Posted by: cinyc at September 29, 2010 07:25 PM (2VNbl)

53 NY politics can be filthy, sleazy and nasty and according to our last hooker banging/hooker choking Governor Spitzer nobody is dirtier and sleazier than Cuomo. This combined with the fact the Democratic party registration outnumbers Republican,Conservative,Right to life, Libertarian and Independents combined by almost 2 million voters, the fact that the only Republican Governors that have been elected in the last 50 years have been liberal Republicans (Rockefeller and Pataki) and that the state Republican party is a joke means that the chances of Paladino winning even this year are slim. Schumer, Gillibrand and Cuomo are probably all going to win but Tim Bishop will probably lose in NY 1.

61 Funny stuff. Reminds me of my old gruff Sicilian Dad. We lived overseas and had just moved to a new location getting know surroundings etc. My Dad's work warned that this particular guy at the job might hit on your wife. So incase this was to happen my Mom was to call my Dad and let him know right away. Well lo and behold it happened and Mom called to let my Dad know. My Dad invited this guy into his office stood at the door as he came in closed the door and locked it. Mohamed come in and have a seat. okay Mr. Sam Mohamed I hear you came to my house. uh uh uh Let me say this once to you Mohamed, if you ever come near my house again I will cut your heart out and hand it to your Mom on a silver platter. Am I clear Yes Mr. Sam. That was the end never saw the guy again. Now if you have ever looked in my old man's steely green eyes when he looks thru you. You think ya know maybe he will do this. Don't know the whole Paladino story but I do not want to imagine what would happened if any scumbag would follow us around.

62 Last month, Carl Paladino called in to one of our local Conservative talk shows here in Buffalo. Unfortunately, I turned into the show right after his call ended. However, the host, Tom Bauerle played back some sound bites where Paladino ranted at him like a mad man. Bauerle's a Conservative Paladino supporter, but Paladino was insulting him and calling him a "wingnut".

It was weird... Got Bauerle really confused, too. Wish I could have heard the entire show...

63 No snark or sarcasm here. I, for one, am happy to finally see candidates that do not stick their tails between their legs and run away when confronted by reporters like this. Time to fight back a little.  I feel pretty sure that Tea Party folks are just as fed up with the media, and are enjoying how our candidates don't back down from a fight. It's this attitude that is going to not only take back the reins of power from the progressive elites, but will start working to roll back the "fundamental transformation" that has been taking place since 1/20/09.

65 Paladino was pissed off because the Post sent a team of papparazzi to locate and stake out his 10-yr-old daughter's home.  They pounded on the door, trying to get her or her mother to come out and talk, then they walked around the house sticking their cameras in the windows... including the child's bedroom window!!  Then they set up outside and waited.

So when Paladino saw Dicker and knew he was the guy from the Post, he saw no reason to be polite, and I don't know any fathers of daughters who would.  Dicker claimed that he had nothing to do with it, but who believes that? Dicker is the Albany/chief state politics editor for his rag.

As for "loose cannon" status...  I can easily see any mature man with a business and a family who responds differently depending on whether he's negotiating a deal for a building, or addressing a $%%$%#%# reporter who had your 10-yr-old daughter stalked.

I live in Carl Country; his margin in the primary at the west end of the state was 93 to Lazio's 7%.
