Hashtag Serious: State Department Spokesman Jen Psaki Tweets Kos and Think Progress Links in Defense of John Kerry's "Apartheid State" Comment About Israel
— Ace

John Kerry had made a controversial statement, warning of Israel's Apartheid future if the beleaguered nation did not agree to Obama's notion of a peace plan:

If there’s no two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict soon, Israel risks becoming “an apartheid state,” Secretary of State John Kerry told a room of influential world leaders in a closed-door meeting Friday.

Seeking to defuse the controversy, Jen Psaki tweeted that the Daily Kos was reporting that prior left-leaning Israeli PM's had made the "apartheid" prediction first, so it's no big deal.

Just another example of the Obama Administration's disregard for real-world foreign relations, contrasted with their laser-like focus on winning the Twitter Hashtag wars.

Churchill's "Fight Them on the Beaches" speech, adapted for the Age of Obama:

Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of rising Russia and all the odious apparatus of the KGB state, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight on FaceBook, we shall fight on Instagram and Pinterest, we shall fight and, with growing follower lists and growing Likes, we shall defend our #hashtag, whatever the cost may be.
We shall fight on Twitter, we shall fight on Vine, we shall fight on the Washington Post's op-ed pages and in the New York Times' comment areas, we shall fight in Buzzfeed's gifs; we shall never surrender.

And if, which I do not for a moment believe, this #hashtag or a large part of it were hijacked by trolls, then our social media reach, armed and guarded by the writers at Media Matters and the Daily Beast, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, some miracle should descend upon us in rescue us so we can return, as we much desire, to the #WarOnWomen.

Romney wants to #BanTampons, please retweet.

17 Millions of Jews kicked out or forced to flee under threat of death from virtually every Arab country in the middle east. Hundreds of thousands of Arabs living and working in Israel with more freedom there than they would have in ANY other Arab state in the middle east. And it is Israel who is apartheid. People should really get their minds around this. This administration is clearly trying to isolate Israel to her detriment. The tweets were funny perhaps, but what this administration is trying to do to Israel is seriously dangerous.

The problem is the eyeballs they do get are in charge of the United States of America. Or at least their advisors are viewers. So we must engage them. At a minimum rebut their points so that future conservatives who search for the quote their lefty friend brought up will find ace's post as ammunition.

More specifically Egyptians and Jordanians.

88 Apparently Seth Roberts -- in addition to dosing up on omega-3 and flaxseed oil, had taken to eating a half a stick of butter a day. From his last column: I tried to eat pork belly every day. One day it was going to be too hard to do this, so I ate butter instead. At lunch, at a restaurant, I asked for more butter twice. A few hours after lunch, I felt a pleasant warmth in my head. Pork belly hadn’t done that. Maybe butter was better for the brain than pork belly. I switched from pork belly to butter. A few days later, my arithmetic scores suddenly improved. This graph shows my daily scores. The upper graph shows all my scores up to the day with the outlier (the rightmost day). The day with the outlier was unusual in several ways. For example, I ate a lot of butter; I also stood on a Chinese cobblestone mat. The next day I repeated all the unusual features and got an unusually fast score again. That’s what the lower graph shows. After that – after I was sure the improvement was repeatable — I tested each unusual feature separately. It turned out that the one that mattered was eating butter. So I continued to eat butter daily – half a stick (about 60 g) per day. My arithmetic speed remained faster than usual, as this graph shows. After I gave a talk about this, a cardiologist in the audience said I was killing myself. It turned out he didn’t understand the evidence that animal fat is bad. He thought the Framingham study found an association between animal fat and heart disease. In fact, it found no difference in diet between those who had heart attacks and those who didn’t (so the name was changed from the Framingham Diet Study to the Framingham Heart Study). I wondered about the best amount of butter – half a stick seemed like a lot. So I tried a smaller amount. For eight days I ate 30 g/day butter; before and after that I ate 60 g/day. Here is what happened. I was slower with 30 g/day than with 60 g/day. I had no reason to think 60 g/day would be better than 30 g/day – in fact, I hoped 30 g/day was better. So these results also argue against a placebo-effect explanation. It was nice to know all that but I did wonder: Was I killing myself? Fortunately I could find out. A few months before my butter discovery, I had gotten a “heart scan” – a tomographic x-ray of my circulatory system. These scans are summarized by an Agatston score, a measure of calcification. Your Agatston score is the best predictor of whether you will have a heart attack in the next few years. After a year of eating a half stick of butter every day, I got a second heart scan. Remarkably, my Agatston score had improved (= less calcification), which is rare. Apparently my risk of a heart attack had gone down.

When my friend's baby was underweight and not eating enough my wife handed her butter pats and she ate them. So we found a way to get her calories up with butter because she'd eat it.

Carter bought Egypt, which really ended up being more like a 30-year lease, but compared to the rest of his foreign policy it was a masterstroke. Reagan's Mideast policy was by comparison pretty sad. When "progressives" criticize, they actually try to control what you eat, rather than merely make fun of you for your choices. Therein lies the difference. I am a vegetaran, have been so for years, and have frequently mentioned this on conservative sites, and the worst I've gotten is gentle ribbing and snark. Never once has a conservative tried to pass an "everybody must eat juicy steaks" law. But progressives? They're all up in everyone's faces with actual social compulsion.

201 And people wonder why Israel is signing trade deals with China and Japan, increasing military cooperation with India and South Korea, and staying out of the Russia-Ukraine conflict (much to the chagrin of the State department). They know they can no longer rely on this country and need to seek allies elsewhere. That makes me sad. On the upside apartheid or no, Israel is a rising power with increasing Jewish birth rates every year, a standard of living around France and South Korea, and soon-to-be energy superpower status. I think that their constant struggle with the Arabs has made them stronger and more determined- the worst thing that happened to most of the west was peace.

212 I haven't seen this so much. When "conservatives" mock, it's just a cultural thing, making fun of hippie diets. When "progressives" criticize, they actually try to control what you eat, rather than merely make fun of you for your choices. Therein lies the difference. Exactly.

224 There's obviously nothing wrong with eating healthy. Problem is we really don't know what that means except in very broad terms. Don't let yourself get obese. Don't be a drunk. Don't smoke a lot. Don't do lots of drugs. For example, I don't believe vegetarianism is healthy at all. There just is not data to support any of their health claims. Most of what people claim is "healthy" is bullshit. Hopefully with more and better research we'll know better. I can appreciate this Roberts dude documenting what he did. But he claimed he was doing "science" when he wasn't -- and he seemed prone to fad diets. By his own admission he'd tried at least a dozen before inventing his own. There's a long history of quackery and fad diets. It's a good way to get rich. Don't really see this as political. One of my best friends is super-conservative -- and also constantly goes on fad diets. He ignores the advice of his actual doctors -- mostly eat less and exercise more, smoke and drink less -- and does a fad diet once or twice a year for a few weeks before his willpower collapses and he goes back to his old ways.

I told them that I think that's actually probably bad for you, but they said no, it's super healthy for you. Mostly we just don't know, of course. Israelis increasingly could give two shits about the Arabs. Such a coalition might actually end the "peace" "process" once and for all and annex strategic portions of the West Bank.

It was a personal speech from a woman considered the front-runner for the 2016 Democratic nomination for president. And while the speech mostly steered clear of politics, she made the case on moral grounds for increasing the minimum wage and equalizing pay for men and women[.]"

Few survived that parliamentary Armageddon The rest were run out of town on a rail, or fled. 342 321 Wasn't it Lurch who made an unathorized trip to Paris to meet with the North Vietnamese? These egomanical dimwittedtwats will be the death of us. Posted by: Cheri John Kerry is a traitor. Not metaphorically, but an actual traitor. Here’s the low-down on Kerry’s treason: http://www.wintersoldier.com/staticpages/index.php?page=20040421205043310 "In June 1971, Le Duc Tho arrived in Paris to join the North Vietnamese Communist delegation to the peace talks. His arrival marked a sea change in the Communists’ approach to advancing their goals via negotiations. Le Duc Tho was with Ho Chi Minh one of the original founders of the Communist Party of Indochina, one of North Vietnam’s chief strategists. He arrived to join a comrade, Madame Nguyen Thi Binh, who had been a member of the Central Committee for the National Front for the Liberation of the South, and was now Foreign Minister of the Provisional Revolutionary Government (PRG) of South Vietnam. The military arm of the PRG was widely known as the Viet Cong, just as Madame Binh was widely recognized as the Viet Cong delegate to the conference. On July 1, 1971, within days of Le Duc Tho’s arrival, Madame Binh advanced a new 7-Point Proposal to end the war. Central to this plan was a cleverly crafted provision offering to set a date for the return of U.S. prisoners of war in exchange for the Americans setting a date for complete, unilateral military withdrawal from Vietnam. In other words, America could have her POWs back only if we would agree we lost, surrender, and set a date to leave. About one year earlier, two young Americans had also come to Paris, arguably for their honeymoon — John Kerry, a young, clean-shaven Navy war veteran, accompanied by his new wife, the former Julia Thorne, whose lineage traced back to George Washington. But honeymooning was not John Kerry’s only purpose in traveling to Paris. Kerry’s presidential campaign has now acknowledged that he “talked privately with a leading communist representative” there. On April 22, 1971, as he testified before Senator Fulbright’s Committee on Foreign Relations, John Kerry mentioned that in Paris he had meetings with “both sides” of the Paris Peace Talks. The strong likelihood is that John Kerry also met with Le Duc Tho, or some other representative of the North Vietnamese delegation, in addition to Madame Binh who was in Paris representing the PRG. There is no reason to assume John Kerry had any interest in meeting with representatives of the other two sides in the Peace Talks — the United States or South Vietnam. Madame Binh’s proposal was carefully crafted to send a strong emotional message to the American home front; that the only barrier to having our POWs returned was America’s own unwillingness to set a date to withdraw — even if the proposed withdrawal amounted to a defeat. The 7-Point Proposal directly challenged the South Vietnamese proposal to set a date for a truce and a free election designed to reunify Vietnam. The PRG and the Viet Cong clearly agreed with the Premier of Communist China, Cho En-lai that complete withdrawal of American military forces from Vietnam was the only precondition that would be discussed. On July 22, 1971, John Kerry called a press conference in Washington, D.C. Speaking on behalf of Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW), Kerry openly urged President Nixon to accept Madame Binh’s 7-Point plan. As the New York Times noted the following day, John Kerry suggested that President Nixon had refused to set a date for withdrawal because North Vietnam had not guaranteed the return of American POWs. Now that the Vietnamese Communists were promising to set a POW return date, Kerry argued that Nixon had no reasonable course left, except to set a date for withdrawing US military forces. Kerry failed to mention one consideration President Nixon most likely found compelling — that America’s cause was just and that the interests of freedom might best be served halting the spread of Communism in Southeast Asia. The U.S., in President Nixon’s view, had not fought the war to abandon our allies to Communism but to defend South Vietnam’s right to self-determination. Today, presidential candidate John Kerry would have us believe that the only goal of his anti-war activities was to speak up bravely against a war he knew to be without justification. All he wanted to do was to stop a war where military policies such as free fire zones, the issuance of .50 caliber machine guns to Swift Boats, and tactics such as search-and-destroy led inevitably to war crimes, the killing of innocent civilians and the burning of peaceful villages. John Kerry today wants us to believe that he has always been an anti-Communist. Yet the historical record raises questions about that claim. Loyal Americans think twice about violating the legal provision against negotiating with foreign powers (18 U.S.C. 953) and the Constitutional prohibition against giving support to our nation’s enemies during wartime (Article III, Section 3). Anti-Communists do not openly support proposals that amount to an American surrender to Communist enemies in time of war." This man is an utter disgrace to the nation. How he can be Secretary of State is beyond belief.

371 BREAKING!!

The increasingly hostile battle for    social media dominance between the United States and Russia intensified today with the bombshell release of thousands of pages of Supernatural/Dr. Who crossover slashfic by the Kremlin, which claims that the slashfic,   which   was posted on popular website Fanfiction.net    under the author pseudonym "StateDeptSpoxoxo," was plagiarized from    the account of a member of the Russian diplomatic corps whose name was not released but who goes by the author pseudonym "VladimirPutin."

State Department Spokesman Jen Psaki    quickly     took to Twitter to deny   these claims:   "Crossover fanfic is AU and    not   a priority of the @StateDept, which prefers to traffic in reality.  #DeanCastiel4EVA."

The Kremlin had not responded to requests for comment as of this printing.

377 That NRO thing on Palin illustrates why they are on a slide into irrelevance.  I might not like some of the kitschy stuff she says, but it's pretty clear that the hoi polloi is quite a bit disconnected from the people in flyover country.

We joke about Dems being that way, but big-city GOP is arguably worse, because they ought to know better.

Newsflash - sometimes, someone might not speak like an Ivy Leaguer, and still have something important to say.

On a call outlining its strategy to get people to sign up for Obamacare over the summer, leading Obamacare advocacy group Enroll America said it will get more creative with its outreach tactics – including hitting up night clubs – now that only certain groups of people remain eligible to sign up for health coverage. 'If it's a health fair, we wanna have a table set up. If it's a long line at a night club, we want somebody walking up and down it, talking to folks while they're stuck there,' John Gilbert, National Field Director of Enroll America, told fellow Obamacare recruiters on the call. The group will begin its new outreach operation in May. So you can still sign up?
