Go go Godzillatron! [Dave in Texas]
— Ace

81 feet tall, 136 feet wide,

In your face burnt orange.

The largest Jumbotron in the world (for a short time, according to the article).

Man, don't you know Vince Young would have loved to see himself on that big screen.

Ramonce would have too but he done messed all that up. Too bad.

Posted by: Beto Ochoa at August 31, 2006 02:31 PM (PMtue)

4 Dave,
Did you read that the commies that run the Tx Highway Dept. are bitching about this? Because the stadium is next to IH-35 and it might distract drivers.

5 Oh and Bite Me! Go Horns!!

Posted by: Mr Minority at August 31, 2006 02:33 PM (d9Vel)

6 You Texans always have to have the biggest toys. Are you compensating? BTW, The Huskers' video board is not too shabby either. See ya in October in Lincoln, Dave in TX.

9 Ok, so my html skills really suck, sorry

Posted by: Kanelin at August 31, 2006 02:36 PM (DHWob)

10 I don't know how big a number a Godzillatron is, but I'm pretty sure it's fucking BIG.

Posted by: Dan Collins at August 31, 2006 02:40 PM (Rj0Is)

11 I believe it will be a distraction for drivers, and they better have their collective shit together when headin south.

Dave in Nebraska, I've heard apochryphal accounts that say when the Huskers are playing at home, the stadium is the second most populous "place" in your state. That true?

Posted by: Dave in Texas at August 31, 2006 02:46 PM (lB17K)

12 Can you see it from your pool?

Posted by: geoff at August 31, 2006 02:57 PM (Id2DF)

13 Punctuation correction:

I've heard apochryphal accounts that say when the Huskers are playing at home, the stadium is the second most populous place in your "state".

There that's better.

14 Whatever...

Gig 'em Ags!!!

Posted by: prolix at August 31, 2006 03:30 PM (LpXdr)

15 At least Michigan fans can spell "apocryphal."

Posted by: Michael at August 31, 2006 03:30 PM (LPlsm)

16 Close, Dave. The stadium comes in third, behind Omaha(where I live) and Lincoln. Pretty sad, I know. There are probably 5 suburbs of Dallas alone with more population than the number of people in Memorial Stadium.
Hey, rinseandspit, whats up with the quotes around "state"?ha

19 Beto Ochoa... back in my day, boy, we used to have DRIVE-IN porn! These days, all you got is drive-in porn stars.

And we had to walk six miles, uphill, both ways, barefoot, in the snow, to the porn drive-in...

Go Jackets!!!

I was at all the  Tech  Notre Dame games at Grant Field back in the day and they were awesome.  Didn't matter the outcome, we had more fun than was geekily possible.

Back when Mackal Harris played, we got all the Mackerel from the stores around Atlanta and pelted the ND players on the sidelines with it.  Oh the humanity.  Now you know why the student section was moved from behind the opposing player's bench!  I still have my "Duck Notre Fame" t-shirt from the last game they played.

We used to road trip the pledges up to Lake Lanier and leave em with no $$ (and sometimes in just their boxers) and they had until 6 pm on Sunday to get back to campus before they owed a penalty.  Try doing that nowadays.

I was an honorary lil sis at one of the frats in high school.  Got accepted never went.  My dad still weeps.

Go Jackets!!!

There is a website out there called what's the good word on blogspot and its run by a GTechie.  There is some debate over there about whether to blow off the ND - GT game to go to Dragon-con.  You gotta be really over the edge to think there is even a question about that one.

SACRILEGE!!!!!!

And just to add to the sacrilege my husband just informed me that the pretend QB from UGA looks pretty good in the Falcons game tonight.  He couldn't get it up for the big games at Georgia, and it won't happen with the Falcons, either.

I will forgive that little piece of crap, while I join your pool!

BTW, my Dad went to Tech, he was the smartest man I've ever met. My mother and my sister both went to UGA, the 2 smartest woemn I ever met. The tossup was setteled by me going to high school in Athens.

I'm a Seminoles fan, btw.

I love Bobby Bowden, the football coach's God (note to Spurrier,  you are not God).   Anyone with the balls to call a statue of liberty play earns my vote everytime.

I'm an ABG.  ANYBODY but Georgia.  It's really rabid in my family.

Posted by: Stephanie at August 31, 2006 05:38 PM (1C3dO)

33

BTW Greg Lester is now coaching high school football at Lakeside in Atlanta.  Show him some love.

Posted by: Stephanie at August 31, 2006 05:40 PM (1C3dO)

34 Kanelin,

My dad's side of the family is all UGA. My mom's side is all GT. I picked the smarter side of the family...

All kidding aside, I really feel for UGA fans (kinda) with Michael Adams in charge...

And Stephanie, it's cliche, but my two favorite teams are GT and whoever is playing UGA. Of course, I'm a transplanted Aggie now, so I hate the Longhorns with a passion, too. I guess that I just have a problem with "flagship" schools...

To Hell With Georgia!

35 geoff, if I take out that last cedar, I can watch the game from the spa.

michael, and geezer aka man of substance, I think I won the spurwing contest.

36 michael, and geezer aka man of substance, I think I won the spurwing contest.

Yes, you did.

Bastard.

Frickin' Texas Bastard.

Man, I am so annoyed. My "Flat Daddies" post was a lovingly crafted piece of spurwing-bait, and you win with some piece of shit post about a jumbotron.

Life is not fair.

Posted by: Michael at August 31, 2006 06:55 PM (LPlsm)

37 What? What? I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the water jets in the spa.

Posted by: Dave in Texas at August 31, 2006 07:05 PM (ChRXV)

38 Yeah yeah, you win Dave. Enjoy it while you can.
Oh, and happy birthday too.

In other college football news, the local BSU Broncos spanked Sacramento State 45-0. They did it without a Godzillatron.

Posted by: Retired Geezer at August 31, 2006 08:42 PM (IjfHa)

39 Dave, it sure is too bad that OU and Texas don't play a home and home series, because I think replays of Adrian Peterson (now with new and improved ankle!) running amok in the Texas secondary would look simply smashing on that new tron.

Oh, and thanks for letting us borrow Rhett Bomar...you can have him back now.

Posted by: genghis at August 31, 2006 09:13 PM (0/c+a)

40 Oh, and the answer to what porn looks like on a 1908" diagonal sreen is....

You can see the look on the faces of each individual crab lice.

Posted by: genghis at August 31, 2006 09:17 PM (0/c+a)

41 don't be stupid, genghis;

everybody knows the best part about watching OU deliver a texas-sized asswhipping on the Horns is afterwards, when big tex waves goodbye to you.

If you look close enough, you can see a single floresent tear rolling down his face.

here's to OU getting back to what it does best: being the 1 in texas' 11-1.

Posted by: Karma at August 31, 2006 11:18 PM (Tr2b6)

42 Karma,

Correct you are. And I think it's awfully noce of OU to let saxeT win one every five years, just to keep hope alive....then drive a stake through their heart the next year, crushing all things burnt orange.

But it gets even better for me this year since I live in Seattle. I know and work with many Oregon and Washington alumni, so not only do I get to taunt all the Ducks for a third year in a row, but get to watch the Hapless Huskies die as well. And yes, I do remember the '84 (was it actually '85?) Orange Bowl. And the saxeT "tie". Bastards.

Posted by: genghis at September 01, 2006 12:27 AM (0/c+a)

43 My alma mater (you've never heard of it) just installed one of those new fangled scoreboards with the digital readout on the game clock. They been using the old one with the single sweep hand that went around in a circle once every 15 minutes. You young wippersnappers that don't know what I'm talking about, need to look at some UCLA/USC film from the 40's. They had one in the coliseum back then. We got some of them new 25 second clocks for the endzone too. Now we don't have to have those drunkass frat boys with semaphore flags hanging out down in the endzone.

44 45-12

Pretty generous of you OU fellers.

Thanks!

45

So how big is it, really? The caption says 81x136, but the article says 55x134.

Is that like when Dave says it's 8.1 inches, but it really measures 5.5?

Posted by: Roy at September 01, 2006 06:47 AM (Kk+xJ)

46

Ah, UT's own site says it's 55x134.

Go Rice!

Posted by: Roy at September 01, 2006 06:51 AM (Kk+xJ)

47 Interesting. I wonder how well it will stand up to a PAT getting kicked through it?

Posted by: Jeff at September 01, 2006 07:11 AM (yiMNP)

48 There probably isn't a human alive that could kick a PAT and hit that screen. You can't tell but it's about 40 yds behind the back of the endzone and the screen starts about 50 ft above the ground.
