Garry Trudeau: Even Though The Claims Made In My Cartoon Are Plainly False, That Doesn't Detract From the Power of My Point, Whatever That Might Turn Out to Be
— Ace

Progs are chiming in in the comments, echoing the Fake But Accurate sentiment.

"We'd hoped it would be obvious that the strip was written before Rolling Stone admitted problems in its reporting," he emailed. "It's not the first time I've been overtaken by events, and it won’t be the last--the occupational hazard of a long lead time."

...

Trudeau still defends the strip's value.

"Jackie's story was not the focus, only the setup for commentary on institutional conflict of interest in adjudicating sexual assault, an issue that did not disappear with the credibility of the article," he emailed. "Not even UVA has claimed otherwise."

What? If the rape was fabricated, the issue of UVa's "conflict of interest" in adjudicating this non-existent sexual assault most emphatically did disappear.

Fake but accurate, fake but accurate.

Check out the "Top Comment." But you should expect this -- this is the amateur progressive-porn webzine Slate.

I'm not even a Trudeau fan, but I don't see what all the fuss is about. The idea behind the strip still holds up even if the UVA story was all BS.

You are a fan of The Narrative, though, aincha?

Much of which lies at the door of the federal government.  There is a great confusion - deliberatly done - of civil matters versus criminal matters.

What would another corporation have to deal with?  Sexual harrassment?  That's a civil matter and there are certain things that they have to do under state and federal statutes.  That's alright, I get that.

Sexual assault?  Pardon me, but I don't think Dupont or Ford Motor hold hearings on accusations of sexual assault so much as they just call the police and toss that unwelcome hot potato in somebody else's hands.

Why should a college do any differently?

Something which is not their business and which is a real problem. At least some of the innocent guys who've been wrongly accused are starting to lawyer up. One Mom of one of the guys is starting to make some noise by organizing the others. This needs to be pushed back against with vim and vigor. I like Insty's idea to start suing anything that moves if you're falsely accused, beginning with the kollidge administration for impersonating officers of the court for bypassing the police.

I do not even get what that means.   His strip had nothing to do with institutional conflict of interest in adjudicating sexual assault.  If it   did, I missed it.  All i saw was an   aging  hippy who still thinks he's cool taking the opportunity to get another dig in at    greek culture.   Was he high   when he    emailed this comment?

And let us say for argument that the   "focus" of the issues surrounding    Jackie's rape story WAS institutional conflicts of interest, rather than   the much more   commonly touted, "Men are evil bad filthy lecherous patriarchal misogynist dickbags who will fuck anything that moves!" refrain parroted by every good li'l leftist and feminazi harridan across the fruited plain.  How exactly   does that ameliorate Trudeau's decision to publish a comic filled with outright lies?  If the   "commentary" is meant to be about conflict of interest, then he should have written a revised strip about how  UVA shutting down all greek orgs (frats AND sororities)    is a clear abandonment of the basic right to due process, habeas corpus,   a jury of your peers, etc, etc, ad infinitum.  He should have written a strip about how UVA, in a   self-serving    effort to silence the shrieking harpies of the leftwing feminist horde, decided to follow the Queen of Hearts approach to jurisprudence: "Sentence first -- verdict afterwards."

But he didn't.

So Gary Trudeau can go suck a tailpipe   and shut up, because the grown ups are talking now.

The OFFICIAL CRIME data show that white male on black female rape literally almost NEVER HAPPENS, not once, and yet, the whole fucking shitstain MSM and all the talking heads were literally frothing at the mouth to go after the white guy Lacrosse players at Duke and believe everything said by the BLACK STRIPPER hired to dance, who subsequently has been charged and convicted I believe of fucking murder.

It was their desired story.  It was THE NARRATIVE they've been led to believe and wanted to believe their whole miserable lives. So of course they ran with it whole hog.

And yet, somehow, you're able to come out of this PR disaster for your cause and say, "We didn't really care about the woman's story in the first place, we just wanted to use that to "start a conversation" about this real and/or perceived problem?  How does that make any sense, and how does that do anything at all positive toward reforming the way rape victims are treated by universities?

172 "Jackie's story was not the focus, only the setup for commentary on institutional conflict of interest in adjudicating sexual assault, an issue that did not disappear with the credibility of the article," he emailed. "Not even UVA has claimed otherwise." Here is the problem with this silly mindset. If someone believes they were sexually assaulted or raped - go to the police. that is your venue. The prosecutor and court system will then determine if it was assault/rape and dole out appropriate punishments. Even the youngest college freshman knows that. Colleges, meanwhile, want to keep their rape/sexual assault statistics down, so are going to do everything in their power to convince alleged victims not to make any report to the police (and remember, these college administrators are almost all exclusively far-leftists). Yes, some college women are too ignorant to realize that and are convinced not to make claims for valid assaults. That is troublesome, but also is partly their own responsibility for being so ignorant. The college itself should not be adjudicating these things in any way. If something is a crime - such as rape/sexual assault - let the appropriate authorities handle it. If there is a conviction, then expel that student. If an acquittal, then you should respect that. Instead, while colleges want to bury any true rape/assaults so as to lower their own statistics, they want to criminalize non-assault/non-rape conduct and punish men so that they can be seen to "do something". So, the colleges are bad actors from every angle. Trying to keep true victims quiet for fear of harming the college's reputation, and criminalizing/punishing male students for non-criminal conduct in order to burnish their image as "rape warriors". It's a sad state of affairs.

I've  had it  explained to me, but still don't quite understand it.  I think it has to do with the Census  questions, and given that "hispanic"  is not a race, but a self-identified ethnicity, there are differences  within the groups of individuals for whom that self-identity occurs.

So there can be "African-American"  hispanics, there can be  "Native-American"  hispanics, and of course, Caucasian hispanics.

The more I write, the less I understand, so I'll shut up now.

Okay, the University would be loath to investigate throughly such an incident, if it occured, because such an investigation would make the University look bad, right?  That is the realy truth he is talking about?  A painfulyl obvious truth?

If only there were some more...relevent examples of this.  I mean some incidents that actually took place (instead of faked), where something bad had happened, and the institution looking into that bad thing would be the one most embarassed at the findings.  Unfortunately I can't think of...a single thing like that.  You know, other than the IRS scandel, bengazi, fast and Furious, NSA wiretapping, Gruber!, Pigford, immigration, Veterens administration, Obamacare...

Perhaps you missed the DOJ sending letters to all colleges/universities and telling them that if they did not institute these unfair tribunals that they would be forced out of business by the federal government?

That to me is the main story. Yeah the schools were screwing this up but some weren't. Until the DOJ stepped in and told them they had to and told them the rules to use which require that they use a lesser standard of guilt and that they do not have to apply any standard of presumption of innocence or confronting their accuser or legal representation or presenting witnesses or cross examination of the accusers witnesses or any of the rights one would expect in a legal setting because they are claiming that it is not a legal setting and that the defendant's life and liberty is not at risk therefore the lesser standards can apply.

Which is patently ridiculous.

200 Takes his mouth off the cock to spit this out though.. Believe it or not, Obama's very tough for business. The contradictory characterizations of him as fascist or socialist only serve to confirm the truth-he's a raging moderate. And satirists don't do well with moderates, especially thoughtful ones. In addition, Obama rarely makes gaffes and has no salient physical or temperamental features. And sinking popularity isn't a critique. Even SNL's main rap on him is his unflappability, hardly a vice in a world leader.

207 175 158 -

I've had it explained to me, but still don't quite understand it. I think it has to do with the Census questions, and given that "hispanic" is not a race, but a self-identified ethnicity, there are differences within the groups of individuals for whom that self-identity occurs.

So there can be "African-American" hispanics, there can be "Native-American" hispanics, and of course, Caucasian hispanics.

The more I write, the less I understand, so I'll shut up now.

Marxists have always been big on 'self-criticism', which--in its less murderous forms outside the gulag--consists of various individuals members of the group confessing to the others the ways in which they have fallen short of Marxist ideals. Remember reading about those poor saps at Stalin's show trials, apologizing for betraying Comrade Stalin and the Revolution? Those show trials were an outgrowth of Marxist self-criticism and it's a fair bet most of those tearful, remorseful men weren't faking it.

These modern show trials conducted by the universities are a radfem institutional variant of that old practice. I would guess only white male students are or have been defendants in them because these 'trials' aren't trials at all. These trials are neo-pagan rites, complete with rituals and sacrifice.

They're commies, okay? And commies gotta purge, man.

265 If any serious study is done into the  alleged campus rape crisis, I am 100% sure that it will find that most real, reported "rape" rapes are committed by non-students preying on the female students. And a profile of all real rapists (students and non-students) will not fit into the narrative being pushed by the left (i.e rich, white frat boys).  Which is why we will never see any such study, at least not in the MSM.

273 @251 Ah but if they accept students who have Federal Loans, they are considered having taken Federal money. Neat trick that is. --------------------- Yeah, I'm not sure what they're doing about that these days. Fortunately, rape accusations are probably quite a lot less common there than they are elsewhere. And mentioning that you got drunk (which seems to be the common enabler in the vast majority of these cases) before you got raped means that you're confessing to a violation of the university's honor code. Students sign an honor code before attending that commits them to not drink, and to not engage in unmarried sex. So while both no doubt still happen, there's a lot less of it. And students aren't exactly going to admit on a whim that they were involved in either activity...

306 Yes, Title IX is the whip hand that gives the US DoE the ability to manipulate Universities around the country. Title IX COMPELLS universities to have policies about various sorts of speech "crtimes", association "crimes" and sexual/behavioral "crimes" that are civil actions imposed on college students, that are outside the scope of criminal law, controlled by real cops and courts. It is truly Orwellian, and this is not just hyperbole. Once you become part of the "campus community", you put yourself at the mercy of this sort of arbitrary government "civil" procedure, imposed (on purpose) by Title IX and the Dept of Education. This is on purpose because the Left has captured the Academy, and this is a template to be imposed on larger society, at some indeterminate time in the future. All our quaint notions of legal procedure, due process and an open trial are to be discarded. And this is how some law schools are being used to educate future lawyers.

317 Last year Trudeau was arrested for murdering, in a sadistic fashion, his Muslim female lover. He was caught trying to stuff her dismembered body down a trash chute by a security cctv and has been out on a multimillion dollar bail since. Sources say he and his famous media wife have already spent millions trying to quash the investigation and they have sent the woman's family out of Canada to Yemen while the body disappeared from the morgue. With the legal team he has hired and the dirty tricks employed so far he may yet hush up the incident and even avoid trial. This all may turn out to be misreported but the truth about Trudeau still stands. I mean, what difference could it make?

"GARRY TRUDEAU has withdrawn a series of Doonesbury cartoons about the student protests in China because of last weekend's massacre. Last week, the strip was set in Beijing's Tiananmen Square, where students had been protesting since April. Lee Salem, editorial director of the Kansas City, Mo., Universal Press Syndicate, which distributes Doonesbury, said more strips on China for use next week were sent to newspapers Friday. Salem said the weekend's events made the cartoons obsolete and inappropriate. The strips sent out as substitutes provide 'kind of an obtuse look at the Alaska oil spill,' he said. Trudeau said the premise of the substitutes 'is that the artist tips an ink bottle on a whole week's worth of strips.''' -- 6-8-89
