— Ace Nine large in punitive damages, on top of the $2.9 in compensatory damages.
He says the case is all about the "freedom of speech which our soldiers are supposedly fighting for overseas."
Um, if screaming at a soldier's funeral that "God hates Fags" and "God Got his Vengeance" is free speech, I'm not sure I want it anymore.

Phelps I imagine will be having a little less of a pleasurable time when it comes time to weigh the scales of his life.

Break 'em. Bankrupt 'em. Take their "church" compound in Kansas and put 'em out on the street-then seize their cardboard boxes. Get a lien against any future earnings (I'm not a lawyer, so I'm not sure if that's legal). Make 'em lose any tax exempt status.
Frankly there just isn't any limit to the degree to which I want to see Phelps and his gang of inbred litigators persecuted.

God bless this gentle soul's family -- and may his son rest in peace. I don't mind telling you guys I wept when I saw him on TV discussing his son's story...what a beautiful love this father has for his son, just beautiful.

I'm always amused and delighted to see an asshole whine when people treat him like the asshole he is.
It's quite possible that Phelps may win at the Supreme Court level, but as a Policeman friend of mine used to say, "Maybe we can't put you to jail but we can sure take you for a ride downtown".
Hope Reverend (sic) Phelps has a nice long ride.

Only when Democrats do it - otherwise it's "hate speech" by those Godbotherers...

Fred Phelps complaining about someone "running their mouth".
This irony meter is pretty much finished.

Interviewer: Thanks, we'll let you know.

And this is how conservatives will be benchmarked. I'm surprised Reid and Pelosi haven't begun hearings yet.
What a malevolent maggot.
Posted by: electron john at November 01, 2007 01:18 AM (ZvbcI)
Even Reid and Pelosi aren't stupid enough to go down that road. Phelps is a Democrat. Al Gore has been to his house and received his support.
Not saying those guys are Phelps fans - they're not, but Phelps is someone they really can't use to slur Republicans

University of Maryland law professor Mark Graber said the size of award, which included $8 million
in punitive damages, could have a chilling effect on speech.
I love that whole "Chilling effect" thing.

The only ones that will win this game are the lawyers.
I'd rather have seen someone open a can of whoopass on that jerk, instead of the lawsuit.

Note: (again) "Westboro Baptist Church" is simply what they call their insular cult. They have no affiliation with any of the Baptist Conferences. They make their living provoking responses and then suing. Their membership consists almost entirely of Herr Douchebag's extended family.

And yet, if an angel with a flaming sword were to come to earth, directly in front of Phelps, and say, "Speak no more, abomination of nature!" before bisecting him into two scorched heaps of ex-retard, then I would convert immediately.
