Delusional: Obama Blames Democrat Candidates For Losing the Senate, Claiming They Would Have Fared Better Had They Snuggled Closer to Him
— Ace

Mm-hm.

White House officials are preemptively spinning a midterm defeat, and they're using their own fantasies to do it. They're starting to blame candidates for not supporting President Obama enough. As a top White House official told The Washington Post's Karen Tumulty, "He doesn't think they have any reason to run away from him. He thinks there is a strong message there."

This is pure delusion: Obama is the main reason Republicans are well-positioned to win control of the upper chamber next Tuesday. And Democrats' biggest strategic mistake in this election is that most candidates didn't run away far and fast enough...

Democrats should have recognized that the president was falling out of favor with the public and inoculated themselves a long time ago. Instead, many bought the White House's spin, and are at risk of going down with a sinking ship.

How does Obama believe such nonsense?

Democrat Kristen Powers says that Obama surrounds himself with "Kool-Aid drinkers." He surrounds himself with people of lower status -- the classic Yes Men hangers-on -- who will echo his narcissisms back to him, rather than challenging him.

Even CNN is wising up, noting seven Democrats wishing Obama would just go away.

6 Didn't realize there was a new thread. Sidebar has a piece on the crazy campus sex rules. I've noticed that more men are fighting back the campus feminazi rules, even suing the schools for violating their rights. I think this is due to the internet. In the past, the men had an incentive to just accept being quietly kicked out to avoid having their name smeared as a rapist. But now that gets out anyway - so might as well fight it. Your reputation is getting destroyed anyway. Some pscyho bitch will put your name on a website claiming you are a monster. So better to fight it, sue the schools, demand actual justice, rather than meekly accept their kangaroo court start chamber bullshit. I think the psycho radfems putting the names of these men who are not ever even charged with a crime, just campus discipline, I think the feminist psychos putting the men's name on the internet is causing more men to fight it. Might as well, only way to get your reputation back.

This is fun, I hope: Dems lose the Senate, lose some more seats in the House, etc, then Obama can go on TV like Peter Jennings and accuse the voters of acting like a two year old throwing a tantrum. (I hope someone will do a "Hitler in the Bunker" video of this.)

I wonder what enormous crisis will magically break out over the weekend to make Obama look like he did with Christie after the hurricane two years ago.

77

Jack, you said you'd predicted that if the GOP got out of the Dems' way, they would implode, delivering the Senate to the GOP.

Well, not really - you aren't describing America as it is today, where spectacularly failed, injurious policies do NOT always, or even mostly, result in political consequences for the authors.  That was 1,000 virtual, or 25 real, years ago.  And the insane Dem stunt at the time of the fake shut-down (barring WWII vets from their memorial, harassing nat. park visitors, etc.) was a nice concrete illustration.  Such moves would have "imploded" any administration in the America that is long gone - this time ..... crickets.

But that's not the main point.  Which is that the GOP "winning the Senate" in and of itself is close to meaningless - if they want to DO something with the Senate, AND actually shape the national political environment for 2016 and beyond, they have to do more than win by default.

Differentiation is how you still win political races in a two-party set-up, and especially how you make actual change possible once you win.

The GOP has a slim but real chance to make a real difference, but only if they differentiate by standing for crucial popular changes and opposing important unpopular policies.  That there could even be a CR standoff in 2013 is yet another testament to how hopeless a passive and cowardly strategy is.  A CR, 5 cycles in to a disastrously lawless and spendthrift administration?  This should never have been allowed to get to that point.

But to turn your comment from the CO thread on its head - this version actually linked to reality and your own insistent theme back in 2013 - how is it that the GOP has recovered so spectacularly from the "damage" it was suffering during the shutdown theater that is poised for an historic sweep?  Of course the answer is there was no damage, as was obvious at the time.

There is no press. There is a completely degraded civic culture.  There is an opposition party that has lost its mind and the last bits of its moorings to anything good about America or its history.  There are degraded, politicized, corrupted institutions as far as the eye can see (judiciary, unionized public sector, the academy, K-12, my god even the friggin' CDC) - all (ALL) pushing, *constantly* in one direction.

Defeating that requires a real alternative.  And some serious, adult political strategery.  Not delusional general quarters alarms when the media-statist complex switches on the hysterical slander machine in response to the GOP making even a tiny symbolic gesture to slow down a disastrous and wildly unpopular new program.

112 Poland Prepares for Russian Invasion http://wp.me/p2zHUk-nT via @wordpressdotcom Yesterday I spoke with a top Polish MoD official, a man of sober and strongly pro-American views whom I've known for years. Referring to this week's needless White House crisis with Israel, another American ally who has doubts about the current administration, he noted, "I didn't need the Beltway media to tell me who the real chickenshit is." "They really have no idea what they are doing," he opined about Obama and his national security staff, "and we know it. You have no idea how many promises we've been given, even by the President himself, but there's never any follow-up, it's all talk. He thinks he's on Oprah." When I asked if he thought America would come to Poland's aid in a crisis, he said laconically, "I'd flip a coin." In a similar vein, a senior Polish intelligence official, another veteran of long collaboration with Washington, DC, expressed his skepticism to me. "Is it 1939 again? I don't know," he explained, "but I think Obama isn't even a Chamberlain," citing the British prime minister who left Poland in the lurch at the beginning of World War Two. Given such doubts, combined with Putin's obvious desire to break the Atlantic Alliance, Poland will prepare to resist the Russians alone, while hoping and praying it does not have to.

113

a classic passage mentioned by Geraghty in NRO Apr 2012:

Obama had always had a high estimation of his ability to cast and run his operation. When David Plouffe, his campaign manager, first interviewed for a job with him in 2006, the senator gave him a warning: "I think I could probably do every job on the campaign better than the people I'll hire to do it," he said. "It's hard to give up control when that's all I've known." Obama said nearly the same thing to Patrick Gaspard, whom he hired to be the campaign's political director. "I think I'm a better speechwriter than my speechwriters," Obama told him. "I know more about policies on any particular issue than my policy directors. And I'll tell you right now that I'm gonna think I'm a better political director than my political director."

and from Moochelle:

"He reads every word, every memo, so he is better prepared than the people briefing him," she said. "This man doesn't take a day off."

And he knows that he has the ability - the extraordinary, uncanny ability - to take a thousand different perspectives, digest them and make sense out of them, and I think that he has never really been challenged intellectually... So what I sensed in him was not just a restless spirit but somebody with such extraordinary talents that had to be really taxed in order for him to be happy... He's been bored to death his whole life. He's just too talented to do what ordinary people do."

Reading those quotes from a few years back, it is amazing:  I am still just as stunned, as disbelieving, that such a ridiculous figure ever attained any status in our society or government, as I was back at the start.

And it's not just him.  Remember:  his sycophantic hangers-on, er, "staff" and even cabinet, and his voters (your neighbors, colleagues, acquaintances) are so degraded, so dumb in a practical sense, that this idiot was not just considered for a high position, but made president and showered with bizarre, Romania-under-Ceaucescu sycophantic praise.

Symptom, not cause.  And the degradation that made Obama possible has ravaged every institution, not just the highly political ones.

Nuclear explosion, not so much.   I don't think any actors inclined to do either of the above has the ability. . .at least right now.

But serious war or ramping up of existing ones?

Risk is significant, I'd say.   Those so inclined are going to want to act quickly, while the US is still asleep at the wheel, so to speak.  Putin is already doing this, and there is simply no reason for him to stop now.   I wouldn't at all be surprised if China starts saber rattling soon, too.

Chance for Middle East conflicts (there are several ongoing now) spinning out of control is real, too.

Not in the real world, no.   Talent is defined not by what you don't do, but by what you do.  IE, Mozart. . .talented.  Tiger Woods. . .talented.  Obama?   What has he done that could be described as "extraordinary"?  Honestly, I can't think of a single thing.

Many here are predicting some wild s**t in the last two years from this vile gang of idiots and thieves.  Could be.

And guess what, GOP?  This won't be warm-ups, or scrimmage.  You're on the ice, now.  This is the real game.  You'll have to overcome your terror of marginally-more-delusional-than-normal slanders from the press, and grow up, and actually do something if the WH goes even further into lawless unconstitutional territory.

Use the power of the purse.  Actual, individual appropriations bills.  Go insanely ballistic, 24/7, and savage the WH and the Dems on the substance of the issues (most are lopsidedly favored by the public) if the idiot vetoes something.  Confront.  Make the story about real things that people care about.  Differentiate.  Do actual politics, not just chickenshit evasion.

JEM had some great ideas on this earlier today.  Defund sanctuary cities.  Defund states that give any preferences or privileges to illegals.  Make the idiot veto a repeal of O-care - do it repeatedly, and each time gang up with increasing ferocity on the vulnerable Dems whose districts hate O-care, press them hard.  And then defund any aspect of O-care that is now lawlessly suspended or delayed.  Defund significant parts of the EPA, demonize and demagogue the hell out of them for their war on coal, defund everything connected to AGW and demonize the non-science behind it and confront the "scientific community" for their corruption.

But that would be an actual, responsible, serious, intelligent GOP.  With the sub-mediocre, rent-seeking, empty, miniature GOP we (mostly) have ..... hmm, yep, it's gonna be rough sledding watching the republic further degraded by a rogue affirmative action freak in the Oval Office.

321 " The only way the storm could be better was if we had a competent GOP which was really an opposition party. "

The largest number of people ever think the country is moving in the wrong direction.  Seems to me like "moving the country in another direction" would be a helluva campaign strategy.  Last time we actually did that, Reagan won 44 states and then 49.

Anyone who says "Reagan couldn't win now" has forgotten how ignorant, obnoxious and pervasive the patchouli-reeking Left was in the 1970's.

The working class is there for the taking and the country in general wants change and new ideas.  Playing prevent defense and putting forward timid me-too policies makes for weak support.  Even if your policies are an improvement, both the positive effects and positive perception are diminished by half-measures.

Momentum counts in politics just like football.  If we keep settling for three when seven is there for the taking, even a reeling opponent gets back in the game.

Well, the spin doesn't surprise me. After all, what politician has ever admitted to being a fuck-up?

That being said, Obama brings political narcissism to new depths. I think he really does, in his heart of hearts, believe that he is the smartest man in Creation, and all problems are attributable to the failures of those around him.

If I were to pick a president who most resembles Obama, at least in character, I'd have to point to Andrew Jackson - another man with serious father issues (born posthumously, orphaned at an early age) who simply could not tolerate the notion of opposition to his will. Of course, Jackson had been a senator, representative, territorial governor, federal judge, businessman, and major general in the army before he ran for president; while Obama had been ... well, he'd smoked a lot of dope.

Its not merely enough to go with a slogan....you are going to have to connect the dots and that is really hard with a general public that has the attention span of a gnat. Posted by: rd at October 30, 2014 05:44 PM (J7NUM) Isn't a Fed civil rights case dependent on the accused being in gov't or acting on the gov't's behalf, acting under the color of law?

430 @265 - I'm not sure it makes good theater for a GOP Congress to drop an Obamacare-defunding bill on the JEF's desk twice a month. But...there's a lot of incremental stuff that the GOP can attach to must-pass bills that will make the Dem base retch, and the courts have broadly supported the notion of Federal coercion of the states through the purse. Keystone. CO2 regulation and other EPA overreach. Voter ID. 'Sanctuary' and procedural requirements re immigration enforcement. Restrictions on the bureaucracy's ability to rewrite Obamacare on the fly. All of these things could be readily - not all at once, but one or two at a time - into the kind of 'omnibus' bills to which our current government structure is so addicted. I'd love to see the 'comprehensive' and 'omnibus' nonsense go away once we have a sane administration, but first I'd rather see the process used to fence in the current bunch of crooks.

431 405 It's almost amusing to see Kirsten Powers, Peggy Noonan andthoseidiot Libertarians over at Reason suddenly wake up after blissfully voting for Obama and helping foist that worthless pile of shit on our once-great nation. Posted by: TexasJew at October 30, 2014 05:46 PM (/RjIj) I'm not so sure they "woke up" as much as they don't want to be associated with the biggest disaster of a president this country has ever known. They are trying to salvage what they can of their "media intellectualism".

432 @265 - Oh, and lock goddam Sensenbrenner in a closet and defund all DOJ VRA and 'disparate impact' nonsense 100%.

Posted by: JEM at October 30, 2014 01:03 PM (o+SC1)

433 @265 - actually, what I'd like to see is a Congressional requirement that any VRA or 'disparate impact' cases that DOJ intends to pursue need to be funded individually by Congress following hearings on that specific case.

Posted by: Havedash at October 30, 2014 06:01 PM (G1XMn) To add... if Obama had done all the same things he has, but was still popular, all these twits would still be creaming their panties at his every word.

435 I got the threats from the Colorado GOP too. Like I was their employee or serf, rather than their customer. Hey assholes - the reason I didn't vote in 2010 (four fucking years ago) was because I was still legally a Texas resident at the time. Piss me off and depress my turnout - yeah, wise move.

436 "He doesn't think they have any reason to run away from him. He thinks there is a strong message there." They should have stopped at, "He doesn't think...", because he doesn't.
