Compare the Pittance of "Cuts" (to the Rate of Growth, Only) with the Enormous New Spending Coming Down the Pike
— Ace

Unserious:

1. Sequestration cuts of $85 billion are impossibly painful, the equivalent of asking Uncle Sam to perform an appendectomy on himself with a nail file, but

2. ObamaCare adding $6.2 trillion to the deficit - nearly 75 times the size of the sequester - is no big deal...

I agree with Rush -- for the first time in my life, I'm ashamed of my country.

Or, at least, not proud. It's a country like any other, filled with the same sort of greedy, lazy, ill-educated fools as you can find anywhere.

Obama's creed always held that America wasn't an exceptional nation. To their great discredit, the country proved him ultimately right.

104 New bill would reduce rank of drone medal By Rick Maze - Staff writer Posted : Tuesday Feb 26, 2013 16:42:18 EST A trio of Republican lawmakers moved Tuesday to prevent the Defense Department from establishing the Distinguished Warfare Medal for drone operators as an award that ranks higher than the Bronze Star or Purple Heart. Reps. Duncan Hunter of California, Timothy Murphy of Pennsylvania and Tom Rooney of Florida, introduced a rare bill that tells the Defense Department how to set the precedence of medals. While introduced as a stand-alone bill, there is a strong chance the legislation will end up as an amendment to the 2014 defense authorization bill, congressional sources said.

Amazingly, I think the idea of a "comfortable slave to the state" is now in fashion with at least 50% to 52% of our population.  As long as they have legal marijuana, unlimited unemployment, free but limited health care, and can lay back and watch the "makers" get taxed to pay for it all, there will be no complaints.  They do not realize that what can't go on forever, won't go on for ever, and the transition will be brutal.  They also ignore the fact that the very rich (like the Kerry's, the Buffetts, the Obamas, cabinet members, the members of Congress, senior ex-politicians like the Clintons) always have a plan B and a plan C in-place and ready to ensure that they never feel any pain.

I am with Ace and Rush on this, I am no longer proud of my country (or at least that part that supports the Marxists), but I don't think we (the rest of us) have the power to alter the decline, it's already baked in.

We're not gonna make it out till those projections' time frame anyway. The Let It Burn contingent is going to get their wish. It's going to burn.

And will the left admit they were wrong? Will Krugman and his ass-kissers admit they were wrong. No, they're going to blame us when it burns. It's not going to be pretty. Anyone who was the slightest bit responsible, has any hard assets of real value (think land, etc, not paper of any form -- any paper assets you have are going to be worthless) will be an instant target. You didn't pay your fair share and now must have everything taken from you.

You better start thinking that way. This experiment, the culmination of a spark of enlightenment that started in Europe (but couldn't take hold, hence they came here) is going to be put out if we don't save it. And at this point, there's nothing but rear guard left, I don't think.

I wish there was a New New World to go to, but there isn't. And Warp Drive (which likely isn't remotely possible) is a long time away, so no colonizing new planets. I'd go in heart beat, and leave this to zombies.

Governement projections? Back in '98 or somewhere along there, the CBO projected we'd have paid off the entire federal debt held by the public by now in one of their 10 year projections. Tax revenue would be coming in like gangbusters. The only thing still out there would be the long term T bonds, basically the 30 yr, and we'd have a whopping surplus that we'd have to figure out what to do with.

Hell, Greenspan was even worried, based on those projections, that the lack of federal debt instruments would make conducting monetary policy a whole new ball game and they'd have to come up with something else to create money against. They even studied that a bit.

That's how good such projections are.

I like to ask liberals/ leftists/ Communists/ Democrats/ progressives/ whatever the fuck they're calling themselves this week (hereinafter referred to collectively as "Reds") the following question: "I know you think Red ideas are sound. What exactly would it take to convince you otherwise?"

The same thing works for AGW.

I go first: if a state implemented Red policies and its economy improved more than those of comparable states who didn't implement the same policies, and continued to do so through one complete economic cycle (and it was not because of some deus ex machina event, such as finding the statehouse was built on a huge platinum deposit), then I'd change my mind.

For AGW, if its proponents accurately predicted (that's predicted; none of that retrospective "our model would've predicted" shit) the climate (e.g., average temperature, relative snowfall, number and severity of hurricanes) for five years in a row, I'd re-assess my skepticism.

OK, Reds, your turn ...

"Finally, the President proposed, signed, and threatened to veto changes to, the sequester.  It was his plan.  Not once, but twice, Congressional Republicans have provided alternatives.  We have seen nothing from Carney’s boss.  If it is really that bad, why has he not sent a different set of cuts?  The President’s actions—claiming to be upset about the sequester and traveling to Virginia to confuse workers there—are at best disingenuous and at worst just plain mean.”

Reince Priebus wrote to me today asking for money. This is what I wrote back:

No. You will get no more money from me. Not until the Republican Party starts showing some spine. Not until it enforces the discipline to speak with one voice in order to counter the media’s bias  (you ever hear of talking points? Guess what. They work. Just listen to the Democrats). Not until it starts acting as if it understands that it’s in a knife fight and its opponents – the Democrats – are in it to win. At all costs. Not until it understands that its opponents operate in bad faith, with every single word and every single action they take. There is no collegiality at work here. There is no comity regardless of what Senator McCain might think. There is only an enemy that wants to destroy you and the American way of life. And they are winning.

Show me you understand that the only reason the Democrats haven’t outlawed the Republican Party is because they still need a few more votes to do it. But they’re working on it. Diligently and relentlessly.

Show me that you understand all that and I will again support you financially. Otherwise, leave me alone.

He has ordered things which make it worse,  like the release of the illegal criminals.

He has refused to allow the States to figure out ways to solve the problem.

He has refused to allow 2 bills from the House to be voted on by the Senate.

This is all on him.  Every last bitof it,  every miserable person,  every unemployed worker.

When he makes those speeches,  someone should be asking the following:

1. If it's so terrible,  why doesn't he fix it?
2. Why is he wanting the American people to suffer?

Third, you seem to be of limited mental capacity so you believing that once enacted the Governors will suddenly opt out of the Obomadoggle is understandable.

259 All the talk about obamacare, there is one major thing nobody has mentioned. In addition to all those taxes and deficit spending, it's also going to raise premiums. CBO estimated cost is $20K/year for family of 4 or 5. all insurance companies will peg to the same obamacare rates. Now to put this in perspective the premiums are basically doubling. If you are self employed and pay $800/mo now (like me), your bill will double. Taxes aside, this alone is epic. This is a hidden cost nobody is factoring into their doom charts.

263 Okay, let me plug the Great White North again for those Morons considering a Plan B.  First, the Socialized Medicine thing: One plus of the experience has been that many normal Canadians have already seen how bad it can be, and if anything it's closer to being reformed (you can only go halfway through the woods before you start coming out of the woods), while a whole swath of LIVs and net-loss illegal would-be Democrats want to plunge headlong into the shitter.  There is also a stronger ethic of provincial autonomy and experimentation.  How many Morons are aware that in Alberta a parent can choose any school, public or private, to enroll his child at no extra cost?  That's the benefits of a voucher system while saving a step.  Plus, of course, there are places like the Oil Patch where great paying blue collar jobs are plentiful if one is willing to get dirty.  There there is the fact that while the USA is taking on a huge portion of the dregs of the world, Canada remains far pickier about just who gets to settle there (which, I suppose, militates against my entreaties for everyone looking to move to check it out ).

Real life, not so much. ------- By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something

320 Hezbollah denied a claim on Tuesday that its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, is having health problems, according to a report in the Lebanese French daily L’Orient Le Jour. Radio Sawt Beirut International, which is reported to have connections with Hezbollah’s opposition, claimed on Monday, citing unidentified sources, that Nasrallah was transferred on Sunday to Iran “aboard an Iranian presidential plane,” which left from the Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport. The sources said that Nasrallah’s health has deteriorated since he was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Nevergiveup-   my apologies.

My comment about "no one in their right mind" was not directed at you.  I agree with your factual statement about the tax hike.  In fact, that is what is so insidious about it is that state governors see it as "free money" and they can sell it to their constituents as a boon to the state.  I just have seen enough of the Obamacare roll out (and yes, I have read the bill to see what's in it) to see it as a giant "bait and switch".

The reason it caught my attention is because it is more serious than some of the other press releases I have seen. Some Republicans think the best way to address the SCOAMT's fear-mongering is to mock it, which is all well and good but does not begin to address what he is attempting to do here (force the Rs to accept a tax increase). So it is an improvement but I definitely see your point.

387 #333   Sven,  I am a Catholic,  and I hold fast to my faith.  My family is an old one,  who have survived all sorts of disasters in Scotland, Germany, and France.

My people are tough, having lived through all of the disasters which came upon the US throughout the last 200 years.

I do not give up,  nor do I think this "police state" Obama wants to set up is going to stand.

If I a wrong,  so be it.  I will go the scaffold as a willing martyr.  I do not think that God is done helping us yet, though.

You forget that when times were very dark, a simple hockey team reminded us of how good it felt to be proud of the USA.  I often remember that and thank those boys at Lake Placid,  for I think they wee part of giving us Reagan.

History turns on unexpected events which cause reactions no one could anticipate.  Some call this Fate,  others the Holy Spirit.

What would happen if the cardinals elect Timothy Dolan as Pope?  What would happen if Obama is caught on camera saying something incriminating?  What if Osama bin Laden turns up alive?  What if the next movie is one which reminds people of the value of fredom?

All sorts of things can happen.  So I do not give up.

I have no doubt,  none at all,  that Obama is evil and wants to destroy this country.  I have said this for 5 years.   But in my world,  good eventually triumphs over evil.

Obamacare is an enormous serpentine leviathan heaped on top of leviathan itself!

The very nature of the law and how it's written allows the administrators wide latitude and discretion on how the law will be devised and implemented.

The necessary and proper clauses built into the law allows the administrators to create rules, regulations and even law itself.

The legislative branch essentially turned over it's law making duties over to an executive branch department!

In other words, why is Honduras a shithole and America is not (well, excepting places like Detroit and Chicago, which have been run into the ground by leftist turds like you?) 459 #426  Of course it will be hard,  and will take a long time.  When Rome fell,  it took some Irish and Scottish monks to hold onto civilization in the monasteries until finally,  Gutenberg invented the printing press.

The first thing is to not give up.  The second is to preserve the memory of all that is good and right,  and pass it on to our children and grandchildren.

That Russian grandmother who taught her grandchildren prayers never lived to see the Soviet Union fall,  but her prayers were answered.

I planted a dawn redwood in my back yard.  It is growing, but I will never live to see it in its glory.  But one day,  someone coming down my street will see it towering over my brick ranch home,  catching the light of the rising sun.

494 461 #426 Of course it will be hard, and will take a long time. When Rome fell, it took some Irish and Scottish monks to hold onto civilization in the monasteries until finally, Gutenberg invented the printing press. Posted by: Miss Marple at February 26, 2013 09:31 PM (GoIUi) Not to be a spoiler, but you're describing a period of 1,000 years. That's a bit beyond the frame of reference of myself, my children, my grandchildren, my great-grandchildren.. . . For F's sake, it's entirely irrelevant. Sure, maybe in a 1,000 years there will be another Constitution. There's only been one in 10,000+ years of human history, but what the F, I'm sure another one is right around the corner. The US Constitution is NOT the norm in human history. Large scale poverty and slavery ARE the norm in human history Prepare. We've been living the bubble. It's about to pop. (FYI, we're in the minority--and that's not a good place to be in a non-constitutional culture.)

498 And I'm paranoid for saying so, even though THOSE PEOPLE were the ones who told me, as they were doing it.

Mer - my exhusband, a prof, told me during an argument, that THEY were teaching the future leaders of America and that THEY would achieve their socialist goals.

He's having the last laugh at this time.  Thank goodness I don't live near him.

Oh, crap, why do I always get sucked into trying to refute trolls instead of just laughing at them?

My old boyfriend from South Philly would have been surprised to know he was part of the Latino Empire. He would have said, "You mean my uncle Dom's pizza place?"

501 sven yes  we were told by the strength of our minds, deeds, study, work anyone of us can succeed, not to be shelled out as   stupid-insufficient beings  of this group or that group that cannot do anything without  GOVT existing to us poor  pathetic misfortunates of that group or this group.

They steal the idea that we are all  beings  with promise . instead we are  all sad pathetic  souls that  cannot stand up on our own  EVER.

fomer republican starts with thre idea He is not sufficient His group is not sufficient to be self  determined to succeed by their own ability. Make us specialer than any IDEA

not american
(or at least how i grew up) we do it we  All are good enough to struggle and sweat .

502 Well, you can't really expect Congresspersons to actually work at writing clear legislation, that's why they have revolving door staffers from K street. It is also why there are always paragraphs in every piece of legislation that exempt Congresspersons from any legislation that applies to all other citizens.

With "starters" like Maxine Waters, Harry Reid, John McCain and Charlie Rangel on the roster, it's not like the "Who's Who" of brilliant minds, it's more like the inmate list at an asylum.

The scary part is that the people that voted for them have to, by definition, be dumber than they are.  Makes you scared to drive around town knowing there are that many complete blithering idiots in control of a 1-2 ton vehicle traveling at 65 mph on a daily basis.

503 Boston12GS,  I take the long view. HA!

Seriously,  though,  we will not have as long an interregnum,  as we have widespread technology and printed books,  something non-existent in medieval Europe.  I was just trying to give people some perspective.

I have grandchildren as well.  And I am prepared for a long period of disruption.  I have been planning for years.

But to give up hope,  to say "All is lost?"

No.  That I will never do.

Seriously, though, we will not have as long an interregnum, as we have widespread technology and printed books, something non-existent in medieval Europe. I was just trying to give people some perspective. Anne Frank's people had widespread technology and printed books, too. Yet it was only the intervention of America that kept the monsters from killing thema ll (Anne being among the lost, of course). Who is going to rescue the "United States of Anne Frank", hiding up in the attic? tick . . . tick . . . tick . . . tick . . . Yeah. That's what I thought.

510 I lurk a lot and post rarely. Alexthechick, your post/rant about..."when you can give back" those years spent getting to where I am now....is so damn spot on and needs to be SCREAMED into the face of every suspected FSA. I have used the gist and have been de-friended by 3 , so far. No loss. However, I am ashamed of my female gender, for all the reasons Rush has artculated.ovee 25 years. Just what does one DO to take a stand on a hill? Are we there yet?

511 Just what does one DO to take a stand on a hill? Are we there yet? Posted by: Russkilitlover at February 26, 2013 11:14 PM (w/hjf) We're almost there, I'm guessing. We'll know when the time comes when it comes. I figure when whatever happens happens it'll be too big to miss. So what does one do in the meantime? Well, I've been acquiring...stuff, learning...stuff, teaching myself how to do...stuff. Seeking out others who feel as I do has been helpful. I guess I would participate in peaceful public protests if I wasn't convinced protests by people like me would be ignored; hence, pointless.

512 I'm with you, Ace—But I've been in these shoes since the Republicans screwed us on the budget negotiations the first time. Bunch of candy-asses aren't interested in doing their jobs; I'm not interested in participating in their system, then. Zurich sounds awfully nice this time of year.
