Coming Home [Ace]
— Ace

Best night's sleep of my life.

Guest bloggers kicking ass and taking names.

The Iraqi elections going off with only sporadic violence and with 80% participation.

Allah sending along this Washington Post story on, yes, Blue Oyster Cult and the cult of "more cowbell."

Life is good.

Thanks, Dave, Lisa, Karol, Say Anything, John, and Unpopulist. You guys did a great job and you made the site better in my absence than it was with me running things.

Given that-- hey, if you want to keep posting a little today, have fun. I'm not quite in full blogger mode yet.

I want to also thank all of those readers who've been so supportive-- not just of this site, but of wishing me good luck at Sundance. It really felt good to know that I was carrying those well-wishes wherever I went.

Scurrilious Rumors: Fat Kid speculates on where I've really been for the past week.

They're all lies.

Well, there's some truth in Number One, I suppose.

1 Anyone can put an [Ace] after his name.

How do we know this is Ace?

It could be any one of many usurpers trying to trick the other guys into ceding the com solely to him.

Before I accept this "Ace" on face value, did he leave any secret chess move with Scotty or Spock before beaming down to Planet Sundance?

2 The Iraqi elections going off with only sporadic violence and with 80% participation.

80%? You mean 60%, don't you?

Actually, I wouldn't get too comfortable with that number either just yet.

3 Thank GOD you're OK. We were worried SICK! What kind of stunt were you trying to pull, mister?

Now, you listen to me; I don't care what you say, the next time you go to Sundance, your father is going with you, and I don't care what the othe bloggers think - if the other bloggers jumped off a cliff, would you jump off too?

4 You HAVE to put a link to the startribune article by Bill Moyers. It's listed in Hugh Hewitt's site. The words hysteria and hysterical come to mind. Jesus (no pun), the boy has obviously lost his mind. I wish there was a way to directly respond to his article.

5 All we fans ask in return for our devotion is a small part in your upcoming blockbuster.

I call dibs on "Dead Whore in Dumpster."

6 Glad you're back Ace.

But none of this nicey-nice "your goodwill warmed my heart" shit.

We want viciousness and cruelty.

By the way, you HAD TO FUCKING LEAVE TOWN when an Andrew Sullivan/Mickey Kaus/Instapundit war finally broke out openly. Timing, man.

7 Ace--

First, welcome back.

Second, the coup attempt thing was all John's idea, I swear.

Third, if you scroll down, you'll realize that I already shared the WaPo Blue Oyster Cult story with your readership, but the one thing I could not do was give them cowbell. I reserve that for you alone.

So, if it really is you, you can prove it to everyone by giving us a little cowbell.

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

P.S. I hope the trip to Sundance was productive. . . please remember to share what you can. . .

8 Hmmm..a happy, optimisitic, "life is good" Ace?

That can only mean two things:

1) He sold his script, and
2) He finally met a woman who shared his love of David Hasselhoff's "infinitely recursive" wang.

Congrats!

9 Ace, I'm so glad you're back. That bad man John said I was immature!

By the way, for the record, Rusty Bedsprings was written by I.P. Freely not Mike Peed.

10 No script sold, yet. Made contacts but will have to follow up.

I'll have a fullish post about it later... later... still recovering. I drank every day and every night, ate virtually nothing, and got very little sleep the whole week.

Since everyone wants to know:

There were almost no celebrities there; they'd gone home the first weekend. In fact, most of the big studio people went home the first weekend too.

There were some people about, here and there.

As far as actual celebrities... well, I met John C. Reilly, Steve Buscemi (sort of), Vera Famiga (finally... but never ask an actress "What were you in?").

Crispin Glover was virtually everywhere I was. Like a stalker.

Jennifer Jason Leigh parachuted in to make a presentation at the awards ceremony (zzzzz...boring) but I didn't see her at the after-party.

11 Cowbell is sooooooooo 2004 people. Give me Vinny Falcone any day of the week!

BTW: good to see you back, Ace!

Posted by: HayZeus at January 31, 2005 10:13 AM (mmZGk)

12 Jennifer Jason Leigh? I've seen her nekkid. I'm sure you have too.

So, at the very least, that must have made for an entertaining mental image during the speech, right?

I hear John Reilly is a nice guy (a friend of mine is a friend of his brother's). . . true?

Rest easy now. . . sleep little lamb.

Cheers,
Dave

13 Can we get a special Iraqi Election cowbell?

Posted by: Eric at January 31, 2005 10:32 AM (hrQvk)

14 Yes, he was quite nice.

But most people out there were pretty nice.

As they say: In Hollywood, people nice you to death, or nice you to unemployment, which is the same thing.

15 Technically, that was Amish, who's guest-blogging over at my place. Heh. Thanks for the link though!

16 Hey, Ace, welcome back.

just popped in for a sec to see. busy with starting the fight over this crap:

http://www.basicrights.org/news/newsitem.asp?ID=108

Ah, another year of my life where I have to deal with "gay 'marriage' "

Anyway, nice to havbe you back.

Maybe your next screenplay can be a Grisham-style deal about heroic conservative lawyers fighting an evil cabal of militant homosexuals who are trying to take over the country (not-entirely-serious alert), or something . . .

17 Welcome back Ace. Thanks again for the opportunity to guest blog for you. I owe you one.

18 Don't be silly, Zelda. I owe you. You did a great job and I appreciate it!

Posted by: ace at January 31, 2005 02:48 PM (5qmzg)

19 Hey, ace welcome back! You said that t Crispin Glover was everywhere you were. Did you get to talk to him? If so, what's he like? Is he really shy?
Eccentric? Nice? Sorry for all the questions, I'm a fan so I would like to know.
