Bush: Iraq Tours Cut Back To 12 Months, More Troops Likely To Be Brought Home
— DrewM

Very good news from the President today on the state of affairs in Iraq and what it will mean for US troops.

U.S. President George W. Bush on Thursday held out the prospect of further troop withdrawals from Iraq as he hailed security gains there and cut the length of combat tours for U.S. forces in the country.

Bush, in an appearance at the White House, said violence in Iraq had fallen to its lowest point since the spring of 2004 and that progress on the ground was showing a "degree of durability."

"We are now in our third consecutive month with reduced violence levels holding steady," Bush said.

From the what if the US wins and war and no one notices department, of the three broadcast networks only CBS covered the Presidents announcement. Apparently gardening and beauty tips or whatever the hell the talk about on GMA and the Today Show were more important.

1 The MSM pronounced the war as lost. Do you think the self-proclaimed "elite" of our society will admit error? Hint, has the Obamassiah admitted error? Their rational is that if they ignore it, it didn't happen.

2 For a majority of Americans, wars only end when the words "Game Over" show up on the screen. Unless their short attention span causes them to reset their Xbox first.

3 After watching the prez this morning, I happened upon Obama flake Susan Rice on MSNBC, who dronned on about the Messiah's latest position on iraq. Could not even bring herself to admit that the surge worked. Repeated the nonsense that Obama's plan to get out instead of surging would have forced the Iraqis to "stand up earlier" or some such stupidity -- which, of course, totally ignores the actual reality inside Iraq.

4 OMG, am I the only one concerned about our troops using enhanced interrogation techniques on children.  Obviously this mad dog baby killer is physically assaulting this child.

6 "We are now in our third consecutive month with reduced violence levels holding steady," Bush said.

So do you consider that a trend, MSM douchenozzles?

7 Wow. What a good news day for America:

Illegal immigration down 11%

Recession? Not so much.

Lowest troop casualties since 2004.

It's almost as if WNAF after all.

We could win this shit in spectacular fashion and the MSM will be quiet as a churchmouse just you watch.  You all know its coming.  The only reason we hear about Vietnam so much is because we lost.  Democrats don't like talking about successful wars, it gives people ideas.  Ideas like the fact that some tyrants need to get skullfucked from time to time.

Just a bit OT, but not much... I hope everyone is watching how the MSM is handling the capture and trial of Radavan Karratztop or whatever the fuck his name is - I'm pretty sure there is a "Z" in there someplace, which is usually bad news IYKWIMAITYD, right ZBig?

Anyway, note the lack of any moral equivalence shit or questioing about due process, or his rights and crap in the MSM.  He is simply a "bad guy", no questions asked.  Know why?  Because a Democrat started the war against him, even though he did not directly threaten the US.  But it was a Dem, so starting a war is not used to beat him up.

Wait until we kill or capture Bin Laden or his 2IC, and you will see a big difference.  OBL killed 3,000 American civilians directly, but he will be treated with more deference in the MSM than RK above, and there will be endless wailings about where and how he should be tried, unless he is killed, and then the wailing will be about whether we had the right to, and whether it was necessary, and couldn't we have captured him, ad nauseum.

The difference is not the criminal, it is the American who seeks to bring him to justice, one George W. Bush.  The MSM will do anything to tarnish any accomplishment of this President, while they meekly play it straight for his Dem predecessor's adventures (which I do not dispute were, in that case, worthwhile).  The MSM will be joined in this by all the usual suspects, the Dems, Hollywood, academia, the "world community", etc., but the MSM will be the ringleader as usual.

The MSM has forfeited it's right to any special status or honorable regard by becoming a totally partisan political movement tha puts party ahead of country (sound familiar?).  It is going to have to be reined in before it kills many more of us.  Any conservative worthy of the name should by wondering how to accomplish that within the law, lest it ultimately be accomplished in ways that do violence to not only to the MSM but our Constitution.  The MSM must be stopped from becoming a Kevorkian suicide machine for America, something it is well on the way to achieving.

10 This is good news and the rest of the MSM needs to be bitchslapped for not reporting it.  What if this news could cause a "surge" of popularity for the outgoing Bush Jr just in time for the November?

Posted by: EC at July 31, 2008 06:22 AM (mAhn3)

11 Also, I'm not quite sure where the numbers cited above are coming from, but it appears to be the month with the least military deaths. Period. Since the start of the war. 12 total fatalities is an unfortunate drop in the bucket compared to every other month. 20 is the closest pre-surge number, and that was February of '04.

This is one of my favorite photos.  I like that the soldier has got down to talk to the boy and that he allows the boy to stand on his boots because he has no shoes and the sand burns his feet. Our soldiers, by the way, are always collecting money to buy sandals for kids.

Posted by: Mothra at July 31, 2008 06:28 AM (vk1s8)

13 According to Iraq Casualty Counter, 8 hostile casualties in the month of July TOTAL. Incredible.

...two of those deaths actually occurred months and months ago (they were MIA, presumed dead, but their bodies were found in July)

14 I can see the MSM's captioning of that picture now:

A U.S. soldier throws an Iraqi child in the air in an act of rage, following an IED attack in the city.

16 The fact of the matter is, America sucks unless a Democrat is in the White House. Any military move BClinton was involved in was referred to as a "peacekeeping" mission, or it was barely mentioned at all. The narrative (Democrat) states that America sucks, and the only way to change that is through aggressive government programs. The Dems hold JFK up as their Jesus, but he'd be a Republcan based on his platform of a strong military, and tax breaks for small businesses. At the same time, Nixon is (in the Dems eyes) the poster boy for Republicans, yet he was basically a liberal, with his CAFE standards, and constant calls for diplomacy. These people (Liberal Dems) are socialists who hate America and resent its greatness, and they have an ally in the media, when it comes to the great unwashed. I hear people say how much they just like Obama, for no real reason other than he seems like a good dude. If they knew his policies and how they would affect Americans, they might still think was a "cool dude", but they damn sure wouldn't vote for him.

Crassius

I totally agree.  I've written here several times that the only way to stop the nationwide liberal temper tantrum is to elect a Dem.  They are completely insufferable otherwise.  Similarly Dems have never seen a socialist or communist war they didn't like either.

Shorter, fewer deployments means happier troops. Happier troops don't quit. Military better able to face what's next.

Heh. I have a friend who complains that Bush destroyed his marriage because he was deployed so often. I point out to him that one, a good chunk of his deployment was during the Clinton years, and two, his wife left him because he wouldn't keep his pants zipped up, whether home, or abroad. Nevertheless, he's got 24 years in.

24 There are tons of pictures where Iraqi children play with US troops. These kids are fastened by Americans because you got 18-20 year old American kid that have less then 1% body fat carrying cool weapons, wearing cool shades, and acting cool. To them these American troops are Alpha males/females. Terrorist can't beat that. The next generation of Iraqi will be pro Americans.

28 One of my fondest memories of 12 months in the IRAQI AOR was sitting in the passenger seat of a soft sided Hummer rolling down Main Supply Route Tampa (The main drag that runs through most of Iraq right into Kuwait.)  The vehicle was stopped and next to us was a mini van jam packed with kids and a couple adults.  I waived at a 4 or 5 year old boy.  He reached out the window and shook my hand with a big smile on his face.  We shook hands for a few seconds and traffic started back up again.  I'll forget a bunch of things I did there but I will always remember that boys handshake and smile.

It's hard to capture or kill a rotting corpse, but you were spot on about the sob sisters in the media and how they'd react. Here's hoping we get to find out because Zawahiri gets his ass ganked by a hellfire.

Which speaking of, is it just me or has W told the CIA to take the gloves off and kill these fucks on sight? It seems like at least once a month now I'm hearing about one of these pieces of crap being in pieces all over the crazy belt of Pakistan .

Funny how since that tubby bitch Adam Gadahn lost his ability to pound down Little Debbies we haven't seen any more Bin Laden videos.

I still believe if Bush had been using his bully pulpit more aggressively to get these type of positive details of progress onto the airwaves instead of repeating the same talking points of "staying the course" and letting spokespeople do the talking, he and this war would have been much more popularly supported.  He should have also went to Iraq to see some of the progress first hand, outside of a holiday morale booster and photo op.  While this administration has gotten many of the big questions on the war right, it has been politically stupid.

OT, but, what I think this site needs is more boobies.  Just a suggestion.

The MSM must have strong backs to keep moving the goalposts.

I sense the meme they will now push will be that "Yeah, Iraq is better off, but it took 4000 lives that could've been used for catching Bin Laden. And Hope and Change will magically fix all of this with his magic unicorn."

OT, but did you hear about Olbermann trashing the 2nd Amendment?

Keif, the moving finger writes:  Obviously, those would have to be the kind of arms in use in 1791, when the Bill of Rights was passed -- the musket, the wheel-lock, the flint lock, the 13th century Chinese hand canon. Stuff like that.

Double load with canister!  Open carry of hand cannon would be delightfully condusive to a polite society..
