Black Friday Stupid
— Dave in Texas

The unions keep hammering away at Wal-Mart, with dozens of hired protestors at stores around the country. Their living wage today is a $50 gift card.

Redeemable at Wal-Mart, and other retailers.

In the past, the United Food and Commercial Workers and OUR Walmart, a subsidiary of UFCW, had offered $50 gift cards to anyone who showed up to protest. The National Labor Relations Board approved the practice in a memorandum this month.

Many anti-Walmart protests in the past have lacked actual Wal-Mart employees. At the protest on Friday, workers from other Wal-Mart locations were present, but none from the Ontario store.

I wonder who they are, if not actual Wal-Mart employees?

pizza now.jpg

WHAT DO WE WANT? PIZZA! WHEN DO WE WANT IT? NOW!

Never mind the poor, who need and benefit from lower prices for goods and services.

The United Food and Commercial Workers have been after Bentonville for 20 years. They would prefer lines in the street to buy toilet paper than the status quo. Because, justice or something.

6 My future son-in-law works for Walmart and has for about 11 years. He only makes about $22k a year. I think it sucks! But, that's because he's a bright, hard-working, dedicated guy who could do much better elsewhere. NOT because they aren't paying him for the job he is doing. He thinks the union bullshit is just that, bullshit, and doesn't work with anyone who thinks otherwise. To hear him tell it, the workers themselves actually accept the fact that they are being paid according to the job they perform.

9 I saw this article on the news this morning. When asked about it, my 12 year old was able to come up with "raising prices" and "firing employees" when asked how Wal-Mart would be able to keep making the same profit. Why don't these protesters get it?

16 I've been reading about Lawrence Duggan, commie spy, who after a visit by the FBI, decided to jump out of his 16th floor window. He was a rich kid and a friend of Murrow's who then went on the attack against McCarthy. As Coulter describes it, you would think it was raining rich white boy commies. But, there was only Duggan. What puzzles me is that they keep saying it was either a suicide or an accident. He was wearing his overcoat and scarf and one overshoe, aka, galoshes. The other one was on the floor in front of the window. But this happened on the evening of Dec 20th. Who would open a window when it is dark cold winter? Even if your office was over heating, who opens it up so wide as to "accidentally" fall out? I guess the commies had to go with accidental since suicide was more an admission of guilt. There was no doubt as to his guilt. And since then, Venona and kgb files have supplied even more evidence of his guilt. Tough luck, traitors. http://goo.gl/TZdk3g

One reason I was able to get through grad school without taking out ruinous loans  in a time of rapidly rising food prices was the availability of cheap staples at Wal-Mart. I doubt I could have survived on a part-time job without it.

Exactly.  Every unions top priorities are:

1. the union's survivial

2. the union's power

3. the union's profits

Workers are only important to them in the sense that they contribute to those 3 priorities.

29 How does that go again? The Left doesn't actually believe any of the stuff they say? It's all about signifying? *** I recently started watching an HBO series called 'Enlightened'. It's drama-com about a female executive who was self-destructive at work and, finally, it caught up with her. She had a meltdown at work and went off to some self-love retreat in Hawaii. She returned an "enlightened" person. Here's the thing.... she's fucking nuts. She spouts all this new love and peace shit and wears pretty flowery dresses instead of suits yet he's really just filled with rage and constantly looking at ways to take down the company that betrayed her. Last night, she was talking to an LA Times reporter who, while speaking about social media, gestured to her that "even a nobody like you can speak truth to power". I LMAO because, the whole time, you can hear her inner thoughts about how her life is changing for the better and how this man has been sent into her life by angels, blah, blah, blah... I LMAO every time I watch it. The hypocrisy is so blatant and so sweet that either the writer, Mike White, a genuine fucking GENIUS or a certifiable Liberal because, seriously... it is totally fucked up. I slung hot tar on roofs in Texas in the summertime for ten bucks an hour, because that's what it was worth.

$10 !?

Shit, I was getting $8.50 to hot mop in Tucson.

Still beat hand pealing logs.

127 Random epiphany needing an outlet: Having just finished reading "The General" and also chancing upon a photo of Churchill wearing a uniform at the Tehran Conf., it occured to me that one reason he wore uniforms was to keep the military from trying to freeze out the civil government on military matters, where in WWI there was too much of that, to the detriment of a generation. Wearing uniorms he was entitled to meant any argument the military tried to make amongst opinion leaders/public would have less force.

Another Walmart fact: if you travel in an RV or motorhome, Wal-Mart will let you dry-camp overnight on the outer periphery of their parking lot, no questions asked. And no charge. They get a few extra eyeballs on the property, which discourages crime and vandalism, and more often than not, the RV campers will pop into the store in the morning to snag some milk or bacon for brekky. That can save you some serious coin if you are on a long-distance road trip.

131 I'm not sure if it was just down here in the Mother State or not, but Wal-Mart employees at my store got paid time and a half, they got an extra 20% off anything they purchased ( on top of their employee discount) and a full turkey dinner. I dunno-- 'Stripes' shows a lot of contempt for the military.

Nope, the hero of that movie is Sgt. Hulka, particularly when he's giving Murray a beatdown in the bathroom and reminding him that although the parade ground stuff is BS, it's part of the necessary training to get to the point of doing something serious.  I'd guess that a fair number of active duty types agreed with him.

That scene actually has a counterpart in "The Caine Mutiny", in which the hero tells Fred MacMurray what a lowlife  he is, and that it's the Queegs of the world who keep the military going in the slack years who are all that prevents his aunt being turned into soap and used to wash Hermann Goring's fat ass.

Posted by: pep at November 29, 2013 10:17 AM (6TB1Z)

135 Per my previous--it could have also been Churchill's way of bucking up the publi's confidence in the brass, because given the way the Great War was fought, then the Fall of France, Greece, Crete, see-saw in the desert, and so on, it is a question of how much innate trust and support the British public might have reposed in the military 1940-41 absent a Churchill. Indulgement of random epiphany ends.

136 Another Walmart fact: if you travel in an RV or motorhome, Wal-Mart will let you dry-camp overnight on the outer periphery of their parking lot, On weekend mornings, our Wal-Mart looks like an RV Park. All Canadian plates, of course. And it's a 24-hour Wal-Mart too. But it's almost impossible to actually shop there overnight, since they jam up all the aisles with pallets, and there is a night stock crew running around yelling and getting in your way. So, the campers wait till morning.

169 Last nite I got a 50 inch led flat screen with 1080p, 3 hdmi inputs and built in video decoding for $220 at wal mart. If that's the kind of deal that depriving a bunch of assholes of a "living wage" brings, then fuck them. Let them eat blu-rays(which, incidentally, look fucking awesome on a 50 inch screen).

170 96 87. The walmarts here had cases of spam for 50% off today
Imagine the herds of 400+ lb locals stampeding to get their spam

I'd rather jump in front of a fire engine, less damage

Not a fan of SPAM, but it's okay once every 10 years.  Went to the Safeway tonight, got a 13 lb. turkey for 49 cents per pound. Not frozen, so will cook it tomorrow. Yeah the herd is pretty amazing. Never saw much of that when I was young, 30-50 years ago.

I tend to think it's all the carbs in so much of the modern diet. Personally, I think a paleo type diet is better.

Sheeeeit. You know you're in the wrong gym when you're working out next to grandma

Especially when grandma has been dead for decades. Is this a zombie thread?
