Benghazi Not Over
— Gabriel Malor

Bret Baier promises "more shoes to drop."

Oh, and in the IRS scandal, House Oversight has recalled Lois Lerner, saying she waived her Fifth Amendment right not to testify.

Can we finally be done with this legacy crap? Give it another 5-10 years max and Chelsea will run for Congress. Actually, she may run in 2016 now that I write that out loud. Regardless, anyone who wants Jeb to run in 2016 is a tool. Looking at you, Karl Rove.

69 The saddest thing about our current state of affairs is the prevalence of crime throughout the government. Top to bottom people are getting away with fraud, corruption, and advancing political goals under the color of government.

We know what Lerner et al did was wrong, and yet we know no one will be going to jail.

Fast and Furious: Had a group of private individuals done the same, they would be facing multiple felonies resulting in decades in prison. The Feds do it, nothing.

If the GOP fails to address this corrosive atmosphere, they need to go away because a country can only tolerate so much BS before people give up any semblance of honoring the rule of law.

Okay, I'm going to raise a modest defense here, not for Baldwin, but for his behavior. In the case of his daughter, he said things that a father ought  to say, he just used the wrong words. He was also realizing that he was 16 years too late, and that he was responsible for the arrogant spoiled brat's behavior.

So far as his wife goes, if the paper made impugning remarks that were not true  , then Baldwin was justified in reacting...., again, he did it wrongly. The guy is an asshole, but his calling calling out bad behavior is justified.

If Monica Lewinski's father, and Chandra Levi's father had called out Clinton and Condit in the same manner, they would have earned my respect.

In fact, I'll bet some good money that the reason she has been promoted is in large part due to her willingness and reliability in doing this.

Offer a lesser sentence, say 20 to life at hard labor, if she names names and helps put her superiors in the joint. No fucking immunity deals.

98 "ABC's investigative procedures, all agents wear plainclothes and carry metal badges." Alcoholic Beverages Control agents jail Charlottesville university sorority student for purchasing bottled water and cookie dough en route to her evening benefit event. "Mistaking" bottle water for beer wasn't the agents' fault; they felt "threatened" when after drawing guns and screaming threats at her, she was scared witless. It was HER fault she'd never heard of the ABC or never saw an ABC badge. Off to jail overnight and the next day! As if getting SWATted isn't prevalent enough, and plainclothes criminals that claim to be badged authorities doesn't happen frequently enough for college girls to have heard stories.

128 WT heck happened to our airplane thread? -OSP Augered in -Mike Hammer Augered in. What a term. Not sure I'd heard it before, and looked it up to be sure it's what it sounds like. (Topic drift warning.) I recently was revisiting videos of 9/11/2001 Pennsylvania. Witnesses expressing astonishment that there were no bodies, so little debris, etc. My "beliefs" are that what happened on that plane is probably just about what it seems, with the passengers' revolt; also, I wouldn't rule out that somebody might have shot it down, understandably so, and if so, that doesn't change the passengers' heroic efforts. But what I noticed (again): most plane crashes, pilots were trying to avoid top-speed impacts with full fuel tanks; that day, the MURDING PSYCHOTIC SCUM were giving us the opposite, resulting (most unfortunately) in interesting, unusual studies in airplane physics. In any case, that thing must've nose-dived at top speed, utter disintegration. Quite humbling, really.

139 On Rubio taking a call from the President on legislation-- The President is not a King. He and Rubio are equals. Congress is the equal of the Presidency. Does the Chief Executive take calls from opposition Senators on those occasions when they feel his adminstration has somehow bumbled its way to an unusually (for it) correct action? One would hope so. For if the White House Chief of staff screens calls but somehow a Senator must always pick up the phone, then it would explain much about the sad state of our Republic, and Mr. Obama's egocentrism. My own view, one consistent across parties, is that the Chief Executive should avoid overly interfering in legislation, one way or the other, for it eliminates the possibility of him being seen as an impartial executor of the national estate, and dulls the sense of Congress as a deliberative body able to look beyond faction. The Presidency is simply not supposed to be a super-Senator, the 536th member of Congress.

Hmm, it sounds different; a water mgmt district permit was conditioned on giving land to the district or rehabbing unconnected property the district owned.

Basically they said, "Give us land or fix our shit, and we'll give you a permit." The owner sued, lost, lost, lost, and then won.

President Barack Obama is planning to simultaneously push through the appointments of three judges to what has been called the second-most-important court in the country, in a move seen by Republicans as an attempt to stack the court toward a liberal agenda.

According to The New York Times, the announcement of Obama's choices to rapidly fill the three vacant seats on the 11-member United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia could come as early as this week.

"The whole purpose here is to stack the court," says Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

179 weft cut-loop @ 176 Ah, thanks. Not the same then. Sounds like it was an open-and-shut case of extortion that should never have needed to get to the Supreme Court. Glad he had the resources to fight. I'd been hoping it was the rain barrel case because water harvesting is something I'd like to try, but this was clearly important for all of us as well.

180 The bigger shocker to me was how uninformed the people were who are supposed to be explaining Ocare to the rest of us.

The entire sham bill should be erased, we can't trust the government to do anything.

181 CarolT :  That caller thing didn't surprise me.  I worked for a catalog call  center back in 2000 and they had a caller id thing on their computer that gave (in most cases) name, address, customer number (if they had ordered before) and whether they had a credit card from the company.

It would not be hard to rig up a computer system which indexed phone numbers to addresses and to all people who live in the home.  A couple of the things in that call were a little squirrely,  but I always operate under the assumption that my phone calls to any business or government agency are not anonymous.

184 Not that I'm against this -- not at all; the longer the IRS bullshit goes on, the deeper the well Issa and the Congress GOP aren't going to be able to get out of -- but it's one thing for pols to pander to the derpiverse, it's quite another for presumably half-way intelligent folks like the post writers at AoSHQ to yell-lead this Titanic. Look, what's gonna happen is that the moment's gonna come in Oversight where Issa succeeds in making Elijah Cummings a frickin' Internet sensation. It's increasing clear -- frankly, it's a mortal lock -- that what happened here is that the IRS attacked an IMPOSSIBLE job of dealing with the GOP's having perverted the test from "exclusively" to "primarily", and Issa managed to get a GOP-appointed IG to go along with the grift. That's gonna result first in the said Toobz Celebrity status for Cummings, but then the IG's getting his ass fired, and Issa having to settle for a fake contempt motion on Lois Lerner (fake partly because she's now able to purge any and all contempt by just talking, with the big advantage of knowing all that's happened before, partly because Issa simply doesn't know how to engineer a contempt cite on a S. 5 claim -- he's probably already blown it, and may well blow it again, he's such a bend putz --, and otherwise because the contempt process takes too long to complete before this Congress expires ... which is why, if I were Lerner's lawyer, I'd do the same thing all over again and tell Issa to take a flying fuck at a rolling stolen vehicle. Benghazzi's now officially a frickin' joke to everyone outside the GOP jerk circle. I realize it's approved authoritarian argle-bargle ("Obama's corrupt because IRS, and IRS is corrupt because Benghazzi", like that's logical), but if the GOOP was ever SERIOUS about this Scandal Summer Surge, they shoulda put someone competent and himself not definitively crooked as a dog's wang in charge of Oversight.

185 They may not be "over," but they're still over. Sorry. That's just life in an MSM world, Jake.
