I also walked right into the bramble patch because I am just that awesome. I was surprised to learn that when that poor kid was killed by a bear in NJ this year that was the first recorded death by bear attack in NJ in over 100 years. Not that I think that there are tons of them but I would assume one a year or so given that parts of NJ are still fairly rough terrain and that the bears are not stupid and now to come in to town to feast on garbage.

Posted by: alexthechick - Commence drinking now. at October 31, 2014 08:34 AM (mf5HN)

51 I look at some of these bear attacks where they bust right thru the door and eat the people. In one case, they scrambled to the roof and one person got down when the bear was distracted and went for help. When they returned, the other person had climbed up to the roof to get away from the bear but the bear found them and ate them.

114 Check your back for spider hitchhikers? Exposed skin for ticks? Posted by: wrg500 at October 31, 2014 01:36 PM (sWgE+) Yes and yes. I saw this hilarious news story many years ago about a family that moved to the Poconos from NYC and discovered that a bear had spent the winter hibernating under their porch. Needless to say, they discovered this when the bear woke up and wandered out. The husband and the sons were all this is the most awesome thing ever! The mom? From the look on her face, yeah, she was gonna cut a bitch for making her move out of the nice, safe city.

115 The Church Vanishes, Part Deux http://shar.es/107yDq via @sharethis Episcopal Church USA fell 1.4% last year, losing 1.9M members. Church attendance fell 2.6%. Episcopal Church seems happy the rate of decline is "little changed from recent years". Oh, ok then. Church's that lost 1-2% of their members year after year tend not to be churches in the long run.

I attended an Episcopal church a few years ago, they said they were doing what they could to embrace gays in the church and sanction commitment ceremonies for gay members, if not outright marriage, because they wanted to be on the "right side" of history. I guess they felt that they were on the wrong side of it during the civil rights era and got burned for it, did not want to make the same mistake twice.

Don't know if these stats are connected with that at all, but obviously being on the "right" side is not filling butts in the pews...

139 @138 - I'm still Episcopalian, and I'm kinda neutral on the gay issues though I know we've lost a few members over it, but nationally the church has embraced a lot of climate-change crap and other nonsense unrelated to its role and I'm having some problems with that...
