"Are You Throwing Up Scarborough's Fare? Well, Sean Hannity Has Just the Tonic"
— Open Blogger

Let me just say straight away, that I'm not really a fan of Sean Hannity. To me, he just doesn't have the intellectual heft of Mark Levin or Rush Limbaugh, nor the cutting wit and gravitas of a Mark Steyn. Obviously, YMMV. That said, I appreciate that he's a decent, honest guy who really does "fight the good fight" with taste and class (his partnership with the late ultra-lib Alan Colmes is testament to that) and in so doing, reaches an audience that is second in size only to Limbaugh's.

And then, there's Joe Scarborough. Having started off his career as a backbencher Republican congressman from the Florida Panhandle in '94, Joe's political career highlights include essentially nothing. Considering people like Hillary Clinton managed to go a lot further with the same record is neither here nor there. Actually, I take that back. Joe Scarborough did manage to achieve some notoriety in a similar fashion to the Clintons.

While the media was obsessed with Chandra Levy, another congressional staffer was found dead in then-representative and current MSNBC talk-show host Joe Scarborough's office. Unlike Gary Condit, Scarborough got a free ride from the press.

In [sic] the morning of July 20, 2001, the body of Lori Klausutis, who had worked as an aide to Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough for approximately two years, was found in Scarborough's Fort Walton Beach, Florida, office.

But I digress . . .

In the years since his completely forgettable stint stalking the halls of Congress, Scarborough began a similarly forgettable career as a political analyst and talk-show host on both radio and television. He's ostensibly billed as "a conservative" which to the media means being the stooge/target for the rest of the panel to hurl insults at as well as the example held up for the rest of us unwashed lumpenproletariat to emulate.

Since Obama was in office his tone has grown more shrill and hostile towards conservatives and like the rest of the media, the election of Donald Trump has caused him to go over the edge. He has no intellect. He has no arguments. He cannot string more than four or five monosyllabic words together into some form of sentence, and that's probably because he inherited Soledad O'Brien's earpiece. Now, I'll admit that I've done quite a bit in my day in order to get laid, but not changing my politics and behaving like a 5-year-old in the supermarket when momma refuses to give me a quarter for a gum ball.

Yesterday, having had enough of the vile, irksome, tedious, puerile bilge emitted from the cake-hole underneath his beady crustacean-esque orbits, Sean Hannity had had enough.

Does it have the wit and panache of Mark Steyn? Not by a long shot. That said, it really is a sad state of affairs when our national discourse has turned into an exchange of artillery fire (albeit rather one-sided) between two TV personalities. Over the past few decades, our culture has devolved into one that is coarse and vulgar. But, as a great man once said, "deeze are da conditions dat prevail" and you use the rhetorical weapons you have to get your message across.

Joe Scarborough, like most of those in the media and the Democrat Party, have the intellectual agility of a small soap dish. And what's worse for them they don't have the arguments and facts on their side. So, it's hurling insults and vulgarity at maximum volume, or it's the Pro-Fa Anti-Fa using bike locks and now semi-automatic rifles to win their arguments.

Finally, I think a majority of heretofore uninvolved Americans plus those that get most of their news from the Fake News Networks and TMZ are seeing this and they are not finding it pretty.

Hallelujah.

PS: Thanks to Mr. Peebles and Jane D'Oh for the story tip.

14 Not a Hannity watcher either. I did watch a few episodes of 'Hannity and Colmes' back when I had cable but I don't much like political commentary believe it or not. But I have heard nothing but good things about his personal character. That's saying a lot for someone who's on television.

18 I have spoken of my experience with Sean.

Sean's delivery can be REALLY annoying but he is a great guy.  He believes what he says. He is not performing. Not a lot of polish and terrible conversation timing. But a lot of consistency and tenacity.

I consider him a friend.

26 I always though that Hannity was at the bottom of the intellectual barrel, however, since Trump has been elected, he's been, IMHO, en fuego.

Hannity is talking about the stories no one else would touch and is using his show to give people like James O'Keefe and the people at Circa News a platform for their investigations. No, his delivery isn't the smoothest, but he's not letting go of a lot of stories (like the unmasking) that everyone else seems to be just blowing off.

So right now, Hannity is my go to guy before Rush and before Levin.

33 Ok, what you gotta do is take that salsa jar and stand it in the corner for a little while. Maybe a stress position. Let it know that you are not pleased with it not opening. Express your displeasure loudly and with disdain. Then leave the room. Now, have a friend enter the room and say to the salsa jar "man, he is really pissed off! I think he said something about a ball peen hammer! Maybe you could just loosen up a little?". The friend should say this while stroking the salsa jar gently and maybe give a pat on the lid before departing. Then you come back in the room. Stare at the jar for a good long while. Roll up your sleeves. Then make a face like "let's get this over with" and grab the jar. Done right, the jar will open itself. PS don't let the other jars see you do any of this. Close the cabinets.

50 Hannity can be low brow but he's been consistently right on things since the start of the campaign. Not many can make this claim, including AoSHQ management. Right now Hannity and Tucker are the only Journo Names who've publicly called out Russiagate. The rest of MSM have been doubling down on a fraud. "low I.Q. Crazy Mika and Psycho Joe" have been asking for it. Non-stop nasty stuff on Trump calling him certifiable crazy who should be removed from office. They and their guests have been making outrageous unsubstantiated allegations. Psycho Joe has gotten even more unhinged of late, talking over his guests and even over Crazy Mika.

57 Salsa jars have metal lids. Metal expands when heated, glass not so much. Let your tap water run till it is scalding hot and hold salsa lid under it till it is hot. Take a cloth and dry it off, then wrap the cloth tightly around the lid, increasing the circumference of the lid and increasing your ability to grab it. Works every time.

And the names he creates such as 'crooked Hillary' quickly slip into the common vernacular and are devastatingly effective. Never has one political faction so underestimated and misunderstood their opponent. The media are bleeding out, and it's a great thing to see.

115 Editors and reporters in the New York Times Co. newsroom can no longer keep quiet about their growing frustrations regarding the direction of the paper.

After a pair of letters sent to Executive Editor Dean Baquet and Managing Editor Joseph Kahn by Times reporters and copy editors, the News Guild of New York said the New York Times editorial staff will leave the newsroom on Thursday as a demonstration of solidarity as management threatens jobs.

In the copy editors' letter to Baquet and Kahn, they say they feel betrayed and disrespected in the newsroom, and ask that management reconsider staffing cuts that are expected as the paper plans to restructure.

"Cutting us down to 50 to 55 editors from more than 100, and expecting the same level of quality in the report, is dumbfoundingly unrealistic," the letter reads. "You often speak about the importance of engaging readers, of valuing, investing and giving a voice to readers. Dean and Joe: We are your readers, and you have turned your backs on us."

124 64 I try not to rag to much about anyone on our side, no matter what the reservations I might have. Allies are not always easy to find. Posted by: Nevergiveup at June 29, 2017 11:45 AM (5y11N) This point needs to be stressed. One of the biggest problems the right has had over the years is eating our own. I've been guilty of this as well, magnifying small faults or mistakes someone makes and all of the sudden OMG THEY'RE NO GOOD WALK THE PLANK!!!! It just happened recently with Milo and O'Reilly. I don't give a flying damn what they were accused of doing. They both fought the good fight against liberalism/tyranny. Hate them, love them, I don't care. Unless someone is convicted of murder, rape or similar crime, I don't want to see the right savaging their own warriors. We're at war with literal tyrants trying to coup d'etat a rightfully elected president, and said tyrants actually had in their party platform a section calling for the jailing of people who speak the truth. The polices of said tyrants are actively causing death and misery to an untold number of Americans at home and around the world, and there is literally no way to calculate the damage they are causing to generations unborn. If someone actively goes over to the side of the tyrants, i.e NeverTrumpers campaigning for Hillary/Egg McMuffin (same thing,) yes cast them out. Because they are no longer on our side, they joined the tyrants. But if you're punching back against liberalism, no matter the method, then those people should have our support, no matter what the propaganda arm of the liberals throws at them.

Actually...that's smart.

The left gets a head start in a lot of political debates by setting the terms to be used.

For example....

Why are we talking about how many people will "lose insurance" via an Obamacare replacement?

The correct terms of discussion are:

Obamacare takes this much of each American family's hard earned income, and the replacement reduces that to X.

130 Dang, L,Elle quoted the exact sentence of JJ's that I was going to highlight. JJ, well done. Hannity is an interesting case. He definitely mangles some arguments (which are generally correct) in delivery. Seems though that in terms of character and conviction, he's pretty solid. Note that he makes friends of lefty counterparts, and it appears they really are friends, and he has a reputation for helping them when he can. He also, as noted by others, can be dog-with-a-bone on important stories that others quickly abandon. It's easy, sometimes, to find Hannity's focus on certain stories quirky and excessive - but usually that's only how it seems because of the upside-down info environmen and civic culture we're in. The Rev. Wright story, for example, would have ended any political career in the former America - yet, tellingly, had zero impact on the astonishing election of the affirmative action non-entity in 2008.

The other components of his program, particularly on the radio, are not so good. He is intellectually weak and has trouble constructing arguments beyond lists and talking points, particularly if pressed and required to be flexible and creative. He's not fast on his feet. I think over all he's better suited for television.

163 Oh - and JJ, thanks for linking the Horowitz/Con. Review article on health insurance in the round-up. He - for the first time I've seen in print - captures the essence of the ridiculous situation we're in. However the piece about Cruz being right about the impossibility of repeal is wrong - that is, both York and Cruz are wrong. It's glib, but wrong. Anything can be repealed. Unpopular collapsing programs that "benefit" half the number of people they damage are far, far, far from invulnerable. Horowitz nicely separates out the different elements to explain this.

198 It's interesting how leftists create the conditions and then complain. "Civil discourse" died a long, long time ago. Up until recently though, there was no platform for anyone, much less politicians, to return the favor. Republicans were always reduced to groveling and apologizing for something they didn't do. It's been this way all of my life. I instinctively knew that a politician who told the media outlets to get bent would be extremely successful. So it was always an imponderable why Republicans played along. My cynicism had not reached a point where the realization that Republicans didn't want to win elections came to the inescapable conclusion. A series of squish candidates leaves no other possible answer.

204 The correct terms of discussion are: Obamacare takes this much of each American family's hard earned income, and the replacement reduces that to X. I respectfully disagree. Republicans have gone down the "we're effective governors" path for decades, and look where we are. Democrats have managed to frame the debate around them caring more. We need to take about 100 steps back, and start attacking them from the moral point of view. Socialism is immoral. They steal from producers and get fat without working for it. Most of their preferred policy positions are immoral. They break families. They kill babies. The remove a man's capacity to protect their family with violence in the gravest extreme situations. They are morally wrong in almost any conceivable situation.

He is after all the President of the United States and I don't think it reflects well on him or the office to get into the gutter with the likes of Mika. It also doesn't seem to be as effective which is what it's all about.

238 OT: If you can stomach it, go read about Charlie Gard. It's absolutely heartbreaking. Under socialized medicine, the government can order you to die. Simple as that. All these leftists who are trying to accuse Republicans of murder over AHCA should burn in Hell. How do this country's idiots not understand the difference between healthcare and health insurance? Healthcare: By law, if you go to the ER in this country, you WILL receive treatment. Health insurance: After you are hopefully feeling better, you may receive a bill. It might be substantial, but hey, you're alive, because by the previous maxim you were guaranteed treatment. Removing the former, a la UK, kills people. Removing or degrading the former, if AHCA can even be said to do that, affects your wallet, not your body. My understanding of medical politics is shit, honestly. I have Tricare and they pay for everything so HMOs and all this other stuff is foreign to me. Yet I still understand this basic idea. How do others not?

Of course Joe said he had left hours or days before, it wasn't his office, it wasn't his fault she was like that when he saw her, he never met her, he was out of town, etc and certainly had no reason to push her. 319 Civility in this day and age? A few days ago a guy cut me off in traffic. I honked as I desperately tried to avoid crashing into him. Apparently, honking at him was a major insult to his "honor". He then tried on purpose to make me crash into him a few seconds later, chased me, and tried to get me to engage in a gunfight with him. Civility is dead. Time to wake up .

320 I agree that some of the tweets are ugly and crude - and our culture is currently ugly and crude.

In addition to what others have said, I remember that these same people are on a quest to unseat a legally elected president. Because they think that half the country are inbred idiots who don;t deserve to select a president; we should just take Hillary and like it.

They have been on this task since the day after election. Anything and everything is on the table for them - impeachment, forced resignation over scandal, criminal charges, inspiring an assassination, destroying his credibility w/other countries via intelligence leaks, etc.

This is the environment in which Trump is lashing out.
This is survival, not just trying to win today's newscycle.

322 Nice to see someone else that shares my opinion of Hannity.  Well said.  I never paid attention to Scarborough because I always thought he was a light weight when part of Congress.  As for his subsequent activities, I don't watch any American TV News and very little of its entertainment content.  However, I am all in favor of anyone exposing the media for the cretins they are.

326 292 Does the New Testament really counsel to let yer ass get kicked? I think something was probably lost in the translation. More like daring them to hit you again. Explanation i heard was usually someone would hit a person of lower status with the back of their hand. Offering the other cheek would force them to use the front of the same hand, as though you were an equal. I think the idea is that the higher status person would rather discontinue the assault instead. But then, it's been a few thousand years, so I could be wrong. Posted by: Blanco Basura at June 29, 2017 12:24 PM (Q6Lfj) Thanks for this. My biblical or, historical knowledge is lacking. I suspect, that leftists are not a good source for contemporary translations of "My Brothers Keeper", nor is Ms. Pelosi a good authority, perhaps, on morality, It is curious how they want to quash any public sentiments of Judeo-Christianity - say the Ten Commandments - or even say, the Easter Bunny - but see no problem importing 4th century Jihadists. I had always assumed that other religions would be as equally disdained in the public realm. Boy was I wrong. About a lot of things. Kinda wacky.

327 I love Trumps tweets. It's got me checking Twitter which I never did. Another great account is the parody of Sean Spicer called Sean Spicier. He tweets hysterical and outrageous stuff and libs often think it's the real Spicer. Hilarity ensues!

328 320 lizzy: true enough. this is all in the context of the media as a whole trying to destroy a presidency, openly partisan, dishonest, and destructive.

329 True. And Trump is fighting back not just for himself, but for all Americans who are disgusted by the fake news. It's easier to fight when you are doing it for others. Posted by: LASue This is a *very* important point. "Turn the other cheek" doesn't address the case, for example, when a psycho is trying to kill your family. It seems to be more about personal offenses and indignities: a soldier making you carry his gear, etc.

Yeah. Cheesy gate crashers. I guess Low IQ was unwrapping her bandages in front of security or something too. Then they are mad about it. "Do you know who we are!?!" Security: "Yes and you are gross and ugly too."

The tweet is NOT anti-plastic surgery. It is anti going out too soon after you have had it to schmooze, climb and appear in public trying to gatecrash something to freeload that you were NOT invited to attend. It is "trashy" and desperate and indicates poor planning. LOL.

It's my old argument about when you're on Last Stand Hill with Custer and the 7th that is not the time to start settling differences with your fellow troopers or bitching about how Custer's deployed his skirmishers. It's time to focus on the howling savages trying got take your scalp.

338 I haven't always been a fan of Hannity, but I think he has really found his voice lately. He has taken the left's most cherished trope (fake news) and is relentlessly smashing them in the face with night after night. Wit, subtlety, panache and nuance certainly have their place in political discourse. Or at least they used to. But when dealing with the rabid, violent and irrational "resistance", nuance is wasted. It's like peeing on a forest fire. What's needed is unyielding offense, dispensing with the niceties of restraint. Always moving forward, keeping the enemy on their heels wondering what they are going to trip over next. That's where Hannity comes in. He doesn't have an encyclopedic knowledge of the Constitution like Levin, and doesn't possess the biting wit of Steyn. He's a stocky, strident, pissed off Mick and he's fucking done being nice. I'd take him on my side in a bar fight anytime.

339 "what's worse for them they don't have the arguments and facts on their side."

If having the arguments and facts on your side meant anything, the country would be in a very different position than it is now.  Arguments and facts ultimately mean precisely dick.  Sure, they might sway *a few* people your way, but that's about it.

343 Sorry but politics have always been less than civil. I remember in 1968 when called by his cohost a crypto-Nazi William Buckley in a rare display of candor said," say that again you flaming faggot and I'll smash your teeth down your throat This was on live tv. I also recall what they did to Clarence Thomas and how they treated the entire Reagan era. And of course how the MSM and dims treated Barry Goldwater.
