Are These Somethings?
— Ace

Amazon has started selling, for $5, wired, physical buttons you can stick on to your appliances, refrigerator, pantry, etc. -- to order something from Amazon at the touch of a button.

People thought this was a joke as it was announced on April 1 -- but apparently it's real.

A picture is worth a thousand words, or even 150 of mine:

I'm torn is that neat and simple, or is that proof we have become too lazy, and are evolving into bloblike sexless creatures who will feed only on vitamin-enhanced Doritos and the EM radiation of our 24/7 television screens?

I'm pretty convinced This one is something: Michael Bey's Benghazi Attack Movie.

The trailer has just dropped for Michael Bay’s "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi," based on the book by Mitchell Zuckoff, which in turn is based on the eyewitness reports of five of the six CIA contractors present that night. The sixth, Tyrone Woods, perished in the battle.

Due Jan. 15, "13 Hours" seeks to continue the winning streak of fact-based military movies released in January: Two years ago "Lone Survivor" attracted a huge audience, and this winter "American Sniper" ruled the box office.

...

That story is that four Americans, including a US ambassador, died in an all-night terror attack, receiving no help from anyone in Washington. Then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton isn't expected to be a character in the film --but just as she is heading into the first primaries of the 2016 campaign, the nation will be reminded that she was in charge...

Kyle Smith notes the film is not about decisionmaking in Washington, so there will be no direct criticism of La Clinton. Just the sort of suggestiveness about the entire issue.

5 I just love how Amazon is thinking about how we live. Innovating. Trying to relate to the customer. It's almost a shame that we don't have the Soviet Union around just to serve as a negative example. The Chinese communists are perfectly happy to borrow anything from the West, as long as they can control it.

Whats the over / under on how long until these buttons are hacked and used as the weak link to get in to everyones network? How does one upgrade the firmware on the "re order tide" device? Right, they don't. Which is why the "internet of things" is a security NIGHTMARE

Well its hard to include Shrillary, I mean, she knew nothing was going on like usual.  Those emails we will never see would prove it.  But they died in a fire or something.  Just a shame.

Of course the whole we need more security now, too bad, so sad we are actually reducing security seems like it could make it.  If one was so inclined.

17 They sell that Tide stuff at the Walmart, so, a button to buy it and have it delivered doesn't seem like it would do much for me.  If, however, a button on my dryer would fold my towels and hang shirts and pants, it might be worth something.

21 The movie might not include the decision makers in Washington, but one part of the trailer appeared to show a "Screw the rules! We're going in!" scene. That's not gonna reflect well on the leadership back home.

22 Think I'll see the Benghazi movie on opening weekend to send the message that movies like this will make money, provided the reviews *don't* identify it as Lefty propaganda. *Bonus: Max Fisher at Vox has written a 1,50 word review of the trailer explaining all the ways it is factually incorrect. 45 *Bonus: Max Fisher at Vox has written a 1,50 word review of the trailer explaining all the ways it is factually incorrect. Ass-covering for Dear Leader much? ------------ Bad reviews have become a thing. Anything not politically correct and approved by the left gets bad reviews and even conservatives won't buy it until someone points out the reviews are dishonest. And even then, the prestige of the reviewer keeps it on the top of the heap, (at least at Amazon). Amazon reviews are no longer trustworthy, good or bad. And that is going to be a problem because some products are substandard and should get bad reviews.

Posted by: weft cut-loop at July 31, 2015 04:49 PM (VY8H5) --Black Hawk Down is one of the best war movies made in the last 20 years. It was focused on the "action," rather than the politics, which you may be on to with this Benghazi flick. However, Mark Bowden's book did get into some of the politics. If the source material has more criticism of HRHC in it and the movie attracts more people to read the book, so much the better.

Ghost of a Chance Review: P.W. Singer and August Cole, 'Ghost Fleet: A Novel of the Next World War' http://freebeacon.com/culture/ghost-of-a-chance/ They have adopted all of Clancy's faults, to be sure---beyond what I've already described, there are the cliched protagonists, the risible coincidences that put the loved ones of said protagonists at risk, the plot twists that are not in the least bit twisty. But they have adopted his strengths, too, and Ghost Fleet is a very creditable Red Storm Rising for the 21st century.

102 One of the better parts of Blackhawk Down (the book) is where one of the wounded Rangers is being treated by the medics and one of them says that he feels sorry for the wounded. The Ranger responds "If you want to be sorry for someone, feel sorry for Skinny. We kicked his ass." And the Ranger was 100% right. Aidid's militia was essentially destroyed, and all it would have taken is to breathe on them to topple them completely. So of course, Bill C surrendered.

106 @74 They have adopted all of Clancy's faults, to be sure---beyond what I've already described, there are the cliched protagonists, the risible coincidences that put the loved ones of said protagonists at risk, the plot twists that are not in the least bit twisty. But they have adopted his strengths, too, and Ghost Fleet is a very creditable Red Storm Rising for the 21st century. ------------------ Speaking of '80s era Cold War books... Battlefront, the makers of a popular 15mm WW2 miniatures game called 'Flames of War', have announced that they're going to release a Cold War Gone Hot miniatures game this October. And earlier this week they revealed the name of the first rulebook in support of the new game - Team Yankee. It's been interesting seeing responses from people regarding the name. The older folks, or younger folks more dialed into the Cold War era, think that the name is great. The younger folks who are more oblivious to the era think that it's silly, as they see it as similar to shouting "Murica!"

185 Hi Chi,Neck is a bit worse than usual because I went out in garden & for at least 1.5 hours I didn't have neck collar on.Yesterday I had my haircut & stopped at Hannadord's (it's my favorite grocery store) because prices are the least expensive of things I love-Kumato tomatoes, smoked Gruyere cheese for burgers, and a few other things. They also have carrot cake muffins that are delicious & only 89 cents each.
I was going to go outside today, but feel it from yesterday. I'll be back to usual tomorrow.
How are you??

186 Amazon Prime is God's gift to men. It is how men were meant to "shop", no malls, no lines, no grocery stores, just log on, click and two days later Santa in brown drops off stuff at your door. And no fat women blocking the aisles!
