Saturday Night Joke

A priest, a doctor, and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers.

The engineer fumed, "What's with those guys? We must have been waiting for fifteen minutes!"

The doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such inept golf!"

The priest said, "Here comes the greens-keeper. Let's have a word with him." He said, "Hello George, What's wrong with that group ahead of us? They're rather slow, aren't they?"

The greens-keeper replied, "Oh, yes. That's a group of blind firemen. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime!"

The group fell silent for a moment. The priest said, "That's so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight."

The doctor said, "Good idea. I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist colleague and see if here's anything she can do for them."

The engineer said, "Why can't they play at night?"

Quick Trivia

In The Exorcist, what color robes does Father Karras wear when the audience sees him saying mass?

The answer is: White.

Secondary trivia question: What season is it in the Catholic Church when the priest wears white?

The answer is: Easter.

The Most Easter of Movies, The Exorcist

55. The Exorcist 01.jpg

So, you people give me grief when I write stuff that doesn't correspond to holidays (what you people will say to me on Flag Day, I have no idea), so I put forth the effort this Easter and watched the movie that I have long thought of as one of the most Easter of movies, The Exorcist.

Easier Problem - White To Play (627)

Just looking at this position, I'm sure that most of you morons can see that it's likely to be a mate of some sort -- and you'd be right. White has too much firepower bearing down on Black's kingside and Black's big guns are on the other side of the board out of the fight. So the question for you is, in how few a moves can you force the mate? Your answer should be of the form:

"I can mate Black's king in 'X' moves:"

And then show your moves, from 1 to X. Make sure either the moves are forced, or all variations are accounted for so the number of moves, X, is not exceeded.

Hint: One of White's moves prevents Black from making a stubborn defensive move and brings quick victory

Easter lily plant, ready to bloom in Michigan

Happy Easter Saturday! Have you got an Easter lily in the house, or in the yard? The article at the link under the photo provides some information on how growers time the plants to bloom at Easter. Timing is Everything when you are growing potted Easter lilies.

Easter lilies are quite hardy, and many people can plant them out in the garden, though they probably won't bloom at Easter for most gardeners. No guarantees that florist plants will be virus-free. Remember that they are very toxic to cats and are also toxic to enthusiastic plant-eating dogs.

The bulbs that growers time so carefully to bloom at Easter have to come from somewhere. Check out this American Profile feature on The Easter Lily Capital of the World. Most of the world's Easter Lilies now come from a small area on the California/Oregon border.

Religious Literacy: What a week! [KT]

Ladies and Gentlemen: I give you the case for Biblical literacy

Religious literacy seems to have been an undercurrent this week at AoSHQ and elsewhere. Ace picked up on NPR's embarrassing definition of Easter. Heh. It adds another layer of confusion to the reporting about the Pope's views on hell. Which is already confusing enough. more...

Good Friday ONT
— Open Blogger

Good Friday is a hard holiday to compartmentalize. Christ died on this day, because of my sins. That's hardly something to say “Hey, happy Good Friday!” about.

28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. 29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
- John 19

OTOH, Easter Sunday marks the resurrection from the tomb, and the glorious culmination of God's gift to all mankind, none of which would have been possible without the crucifixion, so...mixed messages. A day of mourning, but one that sets the stage for triumph.

For members of the tribe, today is Peasch, celebrating G-d freeing the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. The two holidays usually fall at the same time (remember, the Last Supper was a Passover Seder), except when they don't. The reason is that the exact date of each holiday is tied to the lunar calendar, but to different parts of the lunar calendar. Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon of Spring, meaning it is moored to the equinox, while Peasch occurs in the middle of the month of Nisan, when the moon is full. Usually these are very close together, except for years when there is a leap month added to the lunar calendar. When that happens, Nisan gets pushed to later in the Gregorian calendar, while Easter, tied to the equinox, doesn't. The next time this will occur is 2024, when Easter will on be on March 21 but Passover won't occur until April 22. In any event, the seder ends with the traditional salute “Next year in Jerusalem!”, a message of redemption as profound and meaningful to Jews as Christ's resurrection is to Christians.

Finally, if you're an atheist or a follower of another religion, in the US at least, many of you got the day off of work, so, BONUS! more...

Sara Carter: The Coming-Soon IG Reporter Contains Criminal Referrals
— Open Blogger

Against whom, we don't know. We do know that McCabe lied -- or, per his own admission, accidentally made false statements, and did so, per Representative Jordan, four times, each more accidentally than the last time -- and so it could be that McCabe is being criminally referred.

We don't know. We also can't know for sure that Carter's sources are 100% right about this. Reports do change.

We do know that McCabe is shaking the tin cup for his legal defense fund on Go Fund Me and has collected $440,000+ so far.

Thanks to Huck Follywood. She mentions the criminal referrals in the IG report at 0:50. She also says that Sessions will make his actual decision on appointing a special counsel after the IG report, with its criminal referrals, is released.

Video below.

And just a reminder: James Clapper provided "inconsistent statements" regarding his contacts with the media. Chuck Ross notes some of Clapper's non-testimony statements to Clapper's new employer, CNN.

"Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, now a CNN national security analyst, provided inconsistent testimony to the Committee about his contacts with the media, including CNN," reads one entry in a seven-page summary of findings from the committee’s Russia investigation.

It is not clear what information Clapper discussed with media outlets, but he was involved in a highly significant meeting with President Donald Trump just two weeks before the Republican’s inauguration.

Clapper and three other top intelligence community officials-- then FBI Director James Comey, then CIA Director John Brennan, and National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers-- briefed Trump on Russia’s efforts to meddle in the 2016 election.

The briefing took place and Trump was told about the dossier, CNN reported on Jan. 10, 2017. Hours later, BuzzFeed News published the dossier in full. Trump reportedly believes that the Comey briefing was a setup aimed at providing justification to release the dossier.

Clapper directly denied last week that he had contact with the media prior to leaving office on Jan. 20, 2017.

That's not what Sara Carter's sources say. They say the investigation revealed that Clapper leaked to CNN "early last year."

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper allegedly leaked information to CNN early last year regarding the classified briefings given to then President-Elect Donald Trump and President Barack Obama on the salacious dossier claiming the Russians had compromising information on the president-elect, according to government sources, who noted the evidence of the leak was collected during the House Intelligence Committee’s Russia investigation.

Clapper, who was one of four senior Obama administration officials to attend the briefing with the presidents, also stated his "profound dismay at the leaks" in an official statement issued in January, 2017 and warned that the leaks were "extremely corrosive and damaging" to national security, according to his press release.

Bill Clinton's Census Asked About Citizenship, Back in the Previous Millennium
— Open Blogger

2000 was part of the last millennium, remember. The true Millennium didn't begin until 2001.

There's a flashback to a dumb argument you never cared about.

Anyway, I read a media article when I covered this. The article said that the citizenship question had been "long-abandoned." But they didn't say when it was abandoned. I didn't want to repeat their vague, sketchy claim that the question had been "long-abandoned" so I just said something like "It had been used previously."

You want to know what "long-abandoned" means to the media? They mean Obama abandoned it in 2010.

The previous census, done as one of Bill Clinton's final administrative acts, did ask it.

So that's the media's mindset -- they really do believe in Spike Lee's formulation that there is a "Before Obama" and an "After Obama" world, and the "Before Obama" world is an ancient and forgotten one.

A Man Did Some Research, And Found 297,000 Google References to People Telling Mitt Romney to "Go Away"
— Open Blogger

Maybe Hillary should have given this research job to a man, too, so she wouldn't have wound up spreading a silly lie.

BTW, this post is racist.

On Fox, Trish Regan, filling in for Cavuto just pointed out that while Hillary Clinton is pretending the media is telling her to go away, in fact, a lot of the people telling her to go away are Democrat politicians and party officials.

And some of them are -- get this -- women.

Via Instapundit, quoting CNN:

Heitkamp, who is facing a tough re-election race in a state Donald Trump won in 2016, was asked Tuesday by her brother, KFGO host Joel Heitkamp, when Clinton will "ride off into the sunset."

"I don't know, not soon enough, I guess," she responded.

The host asked, "What's the answer?"

And Heitkamp said again: "Not soon enough."

Supervisor of Disgraced, Jailed Molester Larry Nasser Now Himself Arrested for Having Nude Pictures of Students on Computer, Inappropriately Touching Students, and Neglecting to Look Out for Students
— Open Blogger

Employees take their cues from their bosses, as Andy McCabe might tell you about the FBI under James Comey.

Some bosses overlook sneaky little peeks.

Investigators who looked at Strampel's computer found around 50 images of "bare vaginas, nude and semi-nude women, sex toys, and pornography," according to the Detroit Free Press, citing a court affidavit.

The newspaper also said, citing the affidavit, that Strampel tried to solicit nude photos from at least one student and approached a woman from behind and grabbed her buttocks during the college's annual ball in 2010. The woman later went on and told police that she never reported the incident at the time because she was afraid she would be removed from the school.

The 70-year-old Strampel also told police last year he never followed up after ordering Nassar in 2014 to have a third person present when providing treatment to "anything close to a sensitive area."

Nah why would you.

Officials say William Strampel allegedly touched a student, and stored nude 'selfies' of female students on his work computer.

Rachel Denhollander, one of Nasser's many victims, says not only did Strampel fail to protect them, he undermined and belittled them.

"When my video testimony to the Indy Star came out, graphically describing the abuse that Larry perpetrated, disclosing horrific details to the world that no one was ever supposed to know -- that I had never told anyone, even my own husband at that point -- Dean Strampel forwarded that video testimony the MSU provost and he mocked it. He called it the cherry on the cake of his day," she testified in her victim impact statement earlier this year at Nassar's sentencing hearing.

To be honest, that sounds more like "Great, this is just the cherry on the cake of my day" grumbling than mocking, but certainly the quote, if accurate, indicates he cares less about the allegation than the paperwork it might inflict on him.

Strampel seems to have had a history of dismissing sexual assault allegations.

The Wall Street Journal obtained notes from a meeting 12 years ago with four students and three administrators. They discussed a separate incident of sexual assault and Strampel brushed off the female students' accusation and pointed to Nassar as an example of how people often lie about abuse.

Strampel is quoted saying, "I don't think any of these women were actually assaulted by Larry, but Larry didn't learn that lesson and didn't have a chaperone in the room, so now they see an opening and they can take advantage of him."

And this is pretty bad:

In one 2013 incident, the complaint says, Strampel allegedly told a female student she needed to learn her place in life, and asked her, "What do I have to do to teach you to be submissive and subordinate to men?"

Rep. Jim Jordan: McCabe Didn't Just Lie Once About His Leaks. He Lied Four Times.
— Open Blogger

His "I was all confuzinated!" defense might work for one lie, but for four, all consistent with each other but inconsistent with the facts?

"He didn't lie just once, he lied four times," Rep. Jim Jordan said. He continued, "He lied to James Comey. He lied to the Office of Professional Responsibility and he lied twice under oath to the Inspector General."

Rep. Mark Meadows added, "Everybody is saying this is political in nature, but when you read the report you see that it's not political because under oath and certainly with the investigation, it was a real problem." Meadows went on to say that the Attorney General's decision not to appoint a second special prosecutor was 'extremely disappointing."

No "intent" to lie, I'm sure.

And Snoozy Jeff continues snoozing. FoxNews reported that the prosecutor he assigned to look into FBI/DOJ abuse is -- get this -- an Obama appointee.

"I don't know why the Attorney General keeps postponing this," Jordan said. He added, "Everyone in town knows we need a second special counsel to get to the bottom of this."

Because everyone knows a sleepy guy like Snoozy Jeff keeps hitting the "Doze" button on the alarm clock until it's noon.

Video of the interview where Jordan and Meadows report that at the link.

The Morning Rant
— Open Blogger

talking ape.jpg
"Did you know that Hungary is being run by a bunch of eeevil Christian so-cons? I'll bet you didn't. But it's true. As such, Hungary has refused to assume responsibility to permanently feed and house the muslim thug refugees flocking in from the Mideast who will refuse to assimilate and contribute nothing except an increase in crime rates and the turning of their major cities into no-go hellholes. Naturally, EU globalist bureaucrats in Brussels are unhappy about Hungary for unapologetically trying to preserve their Christian culture (as well as the safety of their wives and daughters). So they've been trying to figure out how to impose sanctions to force Hungary to accept its "fair share" of violent muslim criminal refugees."

I Wish We Had One of These

The inspiration for today's rant comes from Mrs. Muse, who is the prayer coordinator for our church. She is in contact via e-mail with other churches in our denomination all over the world, taking their prayer requests, etc. This is what she received from one of our churches in Hungary:

And finally, please pray for the elections in Hungary on April 8. We would like if the current Christian-conservative party would be able to continue their government.

Slapweasel should probably add this to the AoSHQ prayer list.

Why A Government Run By Unapologetic So-Cons Might Not Be A Bad Idea:

california exports.jpg

Because this is what you get when you explicitly expunge them from any position of influence or policy.

Also, a so-con government would give the progs something they could enjoy themselves rebelling against. Because from the Salem Witch Trials to the Scopes Trial, from the Scarlet Letter to Elmer Gantry, nothing fires up the holy zeal of the progs like that old time, praise the Lord, tents-and-sawdust religion, hallelujah. So they can wear their goofy hats and make their silly signs, hook up with the weed-and-polyamory wing of the Libertarian Party, and they can all march up and down Pennsylvania Avenue chanting and singing, mugging for the CNN cameras, bask in the praise of the potato-head media, and a good time will be had by all.

Testify! more...

The Morning Report 3/30/18
— Open Blogger

Good morning kids. First and foremost, I want to wish you and yours a blessed Good Friday and Happy Easter, and a ziessen Pesach. Not coincidentally, as the godless heathens, devil worshippers and would be tyrants are out in force to destroy us, this time their target is Laura Ingraham. The entire incident is illustrative of the modus operandi of the Left. After ridiculing Derp Furor Camera Hogg for failing to get into any of California's indoctrination mills, the whiney little hairless adolescent lashed out at her. That is to say, his handlers in the Democrat-Left-Media complex went after her by engaging in tortious interference with her business, as a number of advertisers to her Fox show have dropped her. Despite Ms. Ingraham's sad mistake of knuckling under and apologizing, this arrogant little shitstain is refusing to accept her apology and demanding that she denounce the network.

Years ago, Rush Limbaugh exposed the so-called tens of thousands of people on Twitter calling for his advertisers to abandon him (and some did; their mistake) as maybe a dozen or so cheeto-munching denizens of someone's mom's basement using algorithms to mimic and multiply a mass of concerned, angry citizens. I cannot believe Laura Ingraham fell for this, let alone bent down to kiss the ring of this f**king twerp, who, along with his bald-headed Sandersnista gum-moll is the new face of "La Resistencia." Big mistake. But as bad as that degenerate duo may be, I want to direct my rhetorical guns on a lumbering, dimwitted dolt who goes by the name of Michael Rappaport. For daring to ridicule the pint-sized putsch-meister, this degenerate, mouth-breathing troglodyte who has the intellectual agility of a sea slug with Down's syndrome, went on an incoherent, profanity-laced tirade against Ms. Ingraham. Lacking the cognitive function and brain stem, let alone the class and manners of a gentleman in polite society, Rappaport resorted to his only manner of communication, akin to little more than drooling, grunting, flatulence and the bearing of teeth and gums. The only thing lacking was a voice over by David Attenborough bemoaning the loss of habitat sustaining the sub-primate in question. But I digress...

I'm running late so let's go with the lightning round:

Robert Mueller is now going all the way back to attack Snoozy McSnoozerson for literally talking to Russian diplomat Sergei Kislyak at a pre-election cocktail party. What a joke.

Mad-Dog and PDT had a sit down to discuss funding the Border Wall while San Diego County is reportedly going to join the insurrection against Kommiefornia in the Federal anti-sanctuary state lawsuit.

Domestically, despite Obamacare still screwing people over, a Federal court has dealt a deathblow to the contraception mandate, jobless claims are at a 45 year low and PDT is crowing about the addition of 3 million new jobs. Meanwhile, Obama holdover Shulkin blasted PDT after he got justifiably shit-canned from the VA, which is still a horror show for the people who least deserve it, our veterans.

Lastly, the Islamic terrorist who shot up the Pulse Nightclub had a different target in mind - Disneyworld. He reportedly was spooked by the cops and switched targets at the last minute. No comment from the Broward Coward.

Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

Opening Day ONT
— Open Blogger

Yes, after a long, cold winter, it's that most magical of days, when spring is in the air and all things are possible. Opening day! Around here Adam Jones went yard in the 11th to give the Os a 3-2 win, how did your opening day go?

And they'll walk out to the bleachers, and sit in shirt-sleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game, and it'll be as if they'd dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick, they'll have to brush them away from their faces. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game -- it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good, and it could be again.
