Checkmate
Bill Stephens

Good afternoon morons and moronettes, and welcome to the Saturday Afternoon Chess/Open Thread, the only AoSHQ thread with content specifically for all of us chess nerds who pay homage in the temple of Caïssa, goddess of the chessboard. And, for those of you who aren't nerdly enough for chess, you can use this thread to talk about checkers, or other games, or politics, or whatever you wish, only please try to keep it civil. Nobody wants to get into a tomato fight on a Saturday afternoon. Except if you'll be making spaghetti later on.

About The Pic

This title of this painting Checkmate, and it was painted digitally by artist Bill Stephens, about which he says:

This is a commissioned work in which an old man is playing chess with the devil for his soul. The jars on the mantle are filled with the souls of those who lost. If you look close, you see the man really sweating.

Click on the pic to embiggen, and if after you do that, you notice that your cursor now has a '+' on it, you can click it again to make the pic even biggener. You'll really be able to see the detail Stephens is talking about. His painting is actually quite beautiful.

I noticed all the jars, and also the empty one on on the table, just sitting there ready to be used. Also, I can't really tell what the pieces are, but I do notice that White doesn't have very many left. Things are looking mighty grim for Old Bill.

I showed this painting to Mrs. Muse. After acknowledging that it was indeed disturbing, she said "we don't know what the devil looks like, but I can well imagine that it would be more like this painting then some guy in a red suit with horns and a tail, carrying a pitchfork."

Problem 1 - White To Play (21)

White had better be careful. His king is dangerously exposed and Black controls 2 open files.

Dump Joe Buck! [CBD]
— Open Blogger

There Is a Petition to Remove Joe Buck From the World Series Broadcast, although why it stops there I have no idea. The man is awful at what he does. I can't imagine that he can call any other sport appreciably better than he does baseball. Isn't there some pasture he can spend the rest of his days in?

Many of us are spoiled, listening to professional play-by-play for our local teams. But Buck isn't just not as good....he is actively bad. He knows nothing interesting, he tortures the language, and he just doesn't know when to shut the fvck up.

Below the fold is the way it should be done.... more...

Well this is turning out to be quite the October for an election. I should've bought more popcorn. It's going to be fun watching all the MSM folks that supported Comey's decision these past few months now say he is a partisan hack. But seriously, I'd really be surprised if anything really happens to Clinton and this may have only come about because they were embarrassed to realize that the FBI had spent more time interviewing Brad Pitt than Hillary. more...

Bias: Watch Megyn Kelly Protest That None of Bill Clinton's "Alleged" Victims Ever Proved Their Charges, While Dispensing With Such Formalities In Trump's Case
— Ace

Bumped. I stomped on this post due to the breaking news that Hillary is a serial felon and known security risk, which, apparently, some people did not know.

But I also want people to know that MeAgain Kelly is a Hillary Shill.

#ImNotWithHer.

...

The Nail in the Coffin in the bias case is Kelly's invoking of one or two of Clinton's accusers having initially not come forward, only to make charges against him "21 years later."

All of this I didn't call bias as I watched it -- I called it journalistic fairness and lawyerly caution.

Then came the Trump accusations -- and journalistic fairness and lawyerly caution suddenly went flying out the window with the velocity of an aerial hunter escaping a hostile environment.

When a Trump surrogate asks why Trump's accusers didn't come forward sooner, Kelly now reverses her previous claim that a long delay casts doubt on an accusation, and says, not citing anyone else but offering her own authority for the proposition: "David, you know very well the reason for that, you know, that fact that a woman doesn't come forward when she's been sexually groped doesn't mean it didn't happen...most women, sadly, move past it, with an understanding that they will be attacked brutally especially if making charges against a powerful man..."

Um, now go back and re-listen to her constant defense of Bill Clinton claiming that his accusers, having not made charges immediately, were to be doubted.

She doesn't just have feminist bias (which is what I thought yesterday).

She has the sort of feminist bias that full-on partisan Clintonite liberals do -- all women are to be believed, except the women making allegations about Clinton.

That about wraps it up for MeAgain Kelly.

I predict she'll have a Hannity Mega-Panel-like array of Male Defenders tonight. There won't be a single swinging dick at Fox not Summoned to coo to her that she's not biased and totally worth $20 million per year.

Bonus Fun: Check the dates of when she was attacking Bill Clinton's accusers and suggesting they were lying versus when she was claiming it was perfectly understandable that Trump's accusers waited 11 or 21 years to make claims against this "powerful" man.

She made the first set of claims -- the defense of Bill Clinton, the undermining of his accusers' credibility -- a mere four days before she decided that an 11 or 21 year delay in making a claim against Trump was no biggie.

I guess she did a lot of research into feminists' claims about sexual assault victim behavior in those 96 hours which completely changed her old paradigm of thinking.

That, or she's simply a liberal, Clintonite hack.

Who doesn't and can't talk about policy.

OMG: New Emails At Center of New FBI "Review" Come From Investigation Into Anthony Weiner's Sexts
— Ace

First, sounds like Trump nailed this a couple of weeks ago:

According to the New York Times: That's exactly what happened, and exactly what's prompted the new review.

WASHINGTON -- Federal law enforcement officials said Friday that the new emails uncovered in the closed investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server were discovered after the F.B.I. seized electronic devices belonging to Huma Abedin, a top aide to Mrs. Clinton, and her husband, Anthony Weiner.

The F.B.I. is investigating illicit text messages that Mr. Weiner sent to a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina. The bureau told Congress on Friday that it had uncovered new emails related to the Clinton case -- one federal official said they numbered in the thousands -- potentially reigniting an issue that has weighed on the presidential campaign and offering a lifeline to Donald J. Trump less than two weeks before the election.

That said, I stand by my previous claim: Keep your eye on that Sarah C. Westwood story, too.

And congrats to the person who who proposed this as the source of the new emails in a private communication, whoever you are.

Thread 2: Comey Is Re-Opening Investigation Due to Emails Discovered in an "Unrelated Case"
— Ace

Well, no more red.

Do check out the update at the end of the last post if you missed it.

Comey's letter to Chaffetz said:

"In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation … I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation."

Speculate away: What unrelated case?

The obvious one, to me, is the investigation into the hacking. In investigating the hacking of John Podesta's emails, they will of course see John Podesta's emails. Or the emails or whoever else was hacked.

Hmmm...

More: At the Washington Examiner, from a few days ago.

Newly released notes from the FBI's year-long investigation into Hillary Clinton's server suggests independent groups discovered potentially classified Clinton documents on a Romanian server while searching for evidence that her network had been breached.

The 100 pages of "302s," or summaries from interviews conducted during the FBI investigation, indicated an unidentified witness consulted Newt Gingrich in August 2015 about how to orchestrate an outside review of potential intrusions into Clinton's server. A "senior staff member" on the Senate Judiciary Committee was also involved, according to the notes.

Gingrich steered the witness to Judicial Watch, which put $32,000 behind the effort in February or March of this year. The project entailed scouring the "deep web" for evidence that Clinton's server, or that of her close confidante Sidney Blumenthal, was hacked.

The unnamed company who was tapped to lead the effort found "one sensitive Excel file listing the names of known or suspected jihadists in Libya" on a Romanian server. Some of the file had been written in Russia, the witness said.

...

However, the potentially classified file "did not come from Blumenthal's server," the witness said. Upon discovering the list of names, the individual who had been hired to conduct the online investigation "became concerned he had found a classified document and stopped the project."

Let me translate: Someone got the idea that they could probably find Hillary's emails by following the trail of the hackers and seeing what the hackers saw. The hacker must have stored the fruits of his hacking somewhere; presumably, with some internet detective work, one could find his cyber bolt-hole where he hid his treasures.

This person contacted Gingrinch about exploring this avenue, and he referred them to Judicial Watch.

Judicial Watch raised money to get these documents-- hacked from Hillary's servers -- off the "deep web," or dark web, the part of the web where there are no published addresses. You have to know what long IP number to go to and use, I'm guessing, a special browser to even get there. You have to know where you're going to get there. You can't just google search the dark places of the web.

And, putting two and two together -- this "unrelated" case is the one that is providing new emails which may contain more classified documents that Hillary bleachbitted... but which the hackers did not BleachBit.

This all sounds like the actual truth to me.

JASON CHAFFETZ: COMEY HAS TOLD ME OF THE DISCOVERY OF EMAILS "PERTINENT" TO THE INVESTIGATION.

HILLARY CLINTON EMAIL CASE RE-OPENED.

— Ace

Update: Is this what this is all about? Three days ago Paul Sperry reported that the Platte River employee who BleachBitted Hillary's emails only did so to the file that he gave to Hillary and her lawyers -- he might have a "transfer file" that he didn't perform that operation on.

Which could mean the FBI can now look at them.

In a May interview with FBI agents, an executive with the Denver contractor that maintained Clinton’s private server revealed that an underling didn’t bleach-clean all her subpoenaed emails, just ones he stored in a data file he used to transfer the emails from the server to Clinton’s aides, who in turn sorted them for delivery to Congress.

The Platte River Networks executive, whose name was redacted from the interview report, said PRN tech Paul Combetta “created a ‘vehicle’ to transfer email files from the live mailboxes of [Clinton Executive Services Corp.] email accounts [and] then later used BleachBit software to shred the ‘vehicle,’ but the email content still existed in the live email accounts.”

Unless one of Clinton’s aides had the capability to log in to the PRN server as an administrator and remove a mailbox, her archived mailboxes more than likely still reside somewhere in that system. And they may also materialize on an internal “shared drive” that PRN created to control access to the Clinton email accounts among PRN employees. PRN has been under FBI order to preserve all emails and other evidence since the start of its investigation last year.

Clinton’s missing “personal” emails may also be captured on a Google server. According to FBI notes, Combetta “transferred all of the Clinton email content to a personal Google email address he created.” Only the FBI never subpoenaed Google to find out.

The FBI documents also reveal that Hillary’s server was mirrored on a cloud server in Pennsylvania maintained by Datto Inc., a tech firm that performs cloud-to-cloud data protection.

When PRN contracted with Datto, it requested that Hillary’s server be backed up locally and privately. But the techs forgot to order the private node, and they sent the server backup data “remotely to Datto’s secure cloud and not to a local private node.” The FBI never subpoenaed Datto’s server, either.

Note the FBI had multiple prior opportunities to subpeona these possible repositories of her emails -- and didn't. Deliberately, I would say.

Hi, Andrew McCabe!!!!

Perhaps there is talk of a revolt and agents coming forward to denounce Comey if they don't, finally, exhaust all avenues of investigation.

Thanks for the alert to ThunderB.

Hillary Clinton Personally Headlined Fundraiser for PAC That Gave $500,000 to Wife of FBI Head Overseeing Her "Investigation"
— Ace

It is crucially important that conservatives join the liberals in vouching for the integrity and good intentions of government, no matter how corrupt it appears to be.

Otherwise your're a deplorable radical who hates stability, corporate profits, and small children.

EXCLUSIVE: Clinton headlined fundraiser for campaign group which gave $500,000 to wife of FBI boss who investigated her emails - and it's closely linked to Hillary's bid for power

DailyMail.com reveals just how closely linked Clinton is to PAC which gave massive donation to Virginia politician married to FBI deputy director

Common Good VA gave $500,000 to Jill McCabe whose husband Andrew ran probe into Clinton's secret server which ended with no prosecution

PAC is controlled by Terry McAuliffe, Virginia governor and Clinton ultra-loyalist - and Hillary headlined fundraiser just before it gave McCabe cash

On top of that series of Clinton powerhouses have been on payroll of PAC including Robby Mook, her campaign manager

And Clinton family financiers poured cash into its coffers, including Doug Band, who was Bill Clinton's closest aide

McCabe denies conflict of interest but one group said of $500,000 donation: 'It looks like a payoff.'

Campaign won't say if Clinton met Jill McCabe at fundraiser

The People -- the low-born, uneducated, violent, racist, deplorable people, who lurk mostly on the conservative side of things, as the GOP Establishment now declares in unison with the leftists -- must be reassured of the Ruling Elite's competency and integrity, otherwise we'll have... why we'll have irresistible calls to kick these self-dealing cretins out of their phony-baloney jobs.

And no one in the Establishment on either side of the alleged "ideological divide" can have that.

Good morning, kids. Our lead story, Jonathan Gruber is a lisping, effeminate know-nothing bureaucrat who has zero real world experience. And yet he was the one that "redesigned" the entire insurance and health care system for 315 million of us. The thing to remember is, he and his fellow tyrants' goal was never to improve insurance and medical care; it was and is to take it over and thereby take YOU over by literally wielding the power of life and death. But, Trump said "pussy." Anyway, ignore all government media, have a great Friday, and remain blessed.
