AoSHQ Postal Match: Part II--Honorable And Special Mentions (and full results)
— Open Blogger

AoSHQ Postal Match Full Results (October, 2016)

Honorable and Special Mentions

Well, there are rules...there is common sense...And then there is Teh Horde.

Now, given that this was a contest amongst Morons, 'Ettes, Lurkers and Guests, I figured there?s be a flyer or three in the mix. And, I was right.

First off, I'd better offer this as a warning. A Trigger Alert. Something Dangerous This Way Comes!

And all of us Morons just got pwn'd by an 'Ette shooting one of the Most Dangerous Guns, EVER!

Steck Bond Arms Backup 38.jpg

Steck Bond Arms Tgt.jpg

Yep, that?s right. Took an 'Ette to step up and shoot the OMG DANGEROUS DERRINGER! And she did right nicely, too. That?s one dead-ass B-27 bad guy in the pic. Well done, Steck! Next up, we go pretty much to the opposite end of the spectrum. No, not a pea-shooter, but close enough. Whodathunkit that some enterprising Moron would shoot the 50 rounds with a .177 cal, C02 powered 1911 pattern air pistol? Alas, not on a B-27 target, so a Disqualification, but hell's bells, this is MORONITY at its finest!

T-Bird gun.jpg

T-Bird Tgt.jpg

Now, that is one First Class, Moron-Worthy act of De-Lurking, right there. Instant Moron Cred, withal. Give T-Bird your usual, warm AoS welcome, Horde! *braces self and covers ears before flood of profanity and invective flings in T-Bird's general direction*

Finally too, we seem to have christened an Ace of Spades Naval Fleet, only to lose it just as quickly as it was launched, sinking under wind and wave, likely never to be seen again.

Got to its own sinking faster than any other boat in the fleet.

Hurricane567_canoe.jpg

Moron Kevin C. might've lost a boatload of guns, but we sure hope the pup lived to tell the tale bark and wag his tail!

Kevin C canoe.jpg

Pollar seems to be a man with a plan. Not an altogether navigationally sound plan, but a plan.

First, one boat in dry-dock. And the other out on sea-trials, on a freeze-dried sea. (Just add water and mix!)

Pollar canoe.jpg

Pollar SadCanoeGuy.jpg

And Moron Richard McEnroe? He's gonna need a bigger boat.

Rchrd McEnroe canoe.jpg

Quite frankly, I'm as proud of the Honorable and Special Mention results, as I am of any given target in the match. I mean, any ol' Gun Blog can run a Postal Match, and many feature them as their claim to fame in the GunBlogosphere.
But only Morons and 'Ettes can Horde the Shooting and Sailing world, with anything like the dash, elan, style and (low) class as y'all have shown here. Alas, I know I've missed a canoe pic or three in the crush of things, and for that, you've my sincere apologies. I'll try to do better next time though!
That said, I'd be proud to man the guns and sail the seas with you, one and all. Probably scared shitless and sure of my own impending death beneath the waves, but proud, nonetheless.

There is a huge number of photos...of targets, pistols and boats. We can't get to all of them today, but rest assured they will appear in the future as integral parts of upcoming gun threads.

11 I hope Bond has improved the trigger on those things. They used to be heavy as hell. The thought of shooting one 50 times is not a happy one.

23 My boss has a Harper's Ferry replica flintlock pistol I thought would be fun to try to do the challenge with, but even with a lot of practice, I don't know if you could do 50 shots in 30 minutes. Maybe a brace of pistols with some helping load? On the other end of the spectrum, he let me borrow a pistol for deer hunting while he deployed to Kosovo. Thompson contender in 45-70 gov't doesn't have iron sights, though, so it was a no go (not to mention ammo's a bit pricey, and my hand would be jelly by the end).

37 Glad you couldn't use that 45-70 Contender for the match. The hand and arm fatigue would have been epic. But I enjoy the 45-70 cartridge in rifles, especially when I load them with black powder. Very accurate, even more consistent, and the BP loads have a different, less punishing recoil.

73 55 ... Over the years I've been surprised how many women have preferred larger model handguns and shoot them well. Mrs. JTB likes a CZ 75b, a full size 9mm, and is damn good with it. I helped a friend's daughter pick out a carry and target gun. This girl is no bigger than a minute and a half, seriously petite. She fell in love with a Ruger GP100 357 magnum with a 4" barrel which almost outweighs her. Another time we took some young people from Mrs. JTB's office to the range. These were typical, svelte early 20s girls who had never shot before. They all liked a Taurus 44 special revolver which is a rather chunky, heavy piece. I've given up trying to predict what someone will like in a handgun based on their size. Just try to give them as much choice as possible.

95 Lindafell, Dangergirl, you 'ettes are too funny!

Academy Sports has the Bond Arms Backup for only 429 plus tax.  It comes with a 2.5" .45ACP barrel.  Once you buy one you can get another barrel for it and (if you buy it quickly, I don't know what the time limit is) take 50% off the 2nd barrel (unless it's .22.)  There's all kinds of calibers and lengths (shut UP!) and everything's interchangeable.

Also, found out immediately after I started shooting that I'm left-eye dominant, so learned how to shoot lefty.  Not as awesome as shooting lefties, but there ya go.

104 Mrs. JTB's score reminds me of our very first date lo these many years ago. It was to an indoor range using a Ruger Single-Six. She had never held a gun of any kind. I put up a human shaped target at 50 feet. When she was done the poor figure didn't have a belly button or intestine to call its own. She's improved since then. fewer bad habits that i blame on the Army, and more formal training by people who know what they're doing.  i stuck to basic safety and handling topics, both because i know my limitations, and to avoid stress.

she was a shooter when we got together, but hadn't done any in years.

smartest thing i ever did, besides getting together with her, was to get her a subscription to (then) Shotgun News... after that, it, and the NRA magazines were all it took.

i tel you it's terrible living with someone who says, "you know, we should probably stop by Xyz Gun Store and see what they have: we haven't been there in awhile..."   or, you know, i think we should go to the range tomorrow...

every time i get PO'ed about something, i walk out to the garage and contemplate all the toys in their houses, and realize i'm damn Fing lucky.

Do many shooters practice strong hand and weak hand as well as two-handed ??? Do many shooters practice in standing, sitting, kneeling, and prone positions these days. Do today's shillouette targets cause shooters to fire higher (or too high) when not target-shooting as opposed to the old-fashion bullseye targets ???

I own the Patriot & US Defender models chambered for .410/45LC both with extended grip + 3 inch barrels - I shoot both with either hand one handed and 2 handed as well. These little "anti car jackers" run VERY well!

Posted by: goatexchange at October 30, 2016 08:33 PM (YFnq5) She can't be impeached before she takes office. I know that some dweeb has been making the claim that that isn't true but he's an idiot. She can't stand trial when she's in office. She has to be impeached, convicted and tossed out, first. This isn't very far from the situation with Nixon in 72, though Watergate was a kids' game compared to what Shrillary, her crew and the Clinton Foundation have been doing. My bet would be that if any of this happened Barky would take the opportunity to try and ensconce himself more permanently into the Oval Office. Yeah ... it would all be totally illegal and un-Constitutional but that's never stopped Barky before. In fact, in 2008 Barky and his junta floated the idiotic and criminal idea that Bush should just step down in December and Barky should take over early. That alone should have been enough for any reasonable person (who wasn't a total coward and douchebag) to tag Barky for impeachment the moment he was in the office.

153 Posted by: 11B40 at October 30, 2016 08:09 PM (evgyj) I spend most of my range sessions with a two-handed grip, but I also practice single-handed shooting with both strong and off hand. There aren't any outdoor ranges near me so standing is really the only option, but when I shot rifle I would shoot standing, kneeling and prone. I'm not sure why a silhouette target would cause shooting higher than a bullseye target, since you're practicing shooting at center mass if you're doing it right, except when you're practicing head shots or doing Mozambique drills.

155 143 ... Hi AOP, I wondered that, too and asked them. Even when recoil wasn't a factor, like with 22LR, they preferred the bigger hand filling grips. Now they weren't firing full house magnums so that may have made a difference. And few of them liked single action revolvers. They had trouble reaching the trigger comfortably on the Ruger Blackhawks. I was also a bit surprised at how well they handled recoil for first time shooters. I thought they would prefer 22s. Nope. Most liked the 38 specials, 44 specials, and 9mm. So much for my expectations.

177 The wife prefers full sized .45, specifically the XD45. I thought she'd prefer 9mm but, nope.

179 175 *sigh* Nothing but food, guns and baseball. --- as if that is a bad thing... Posted by: redc1c4 at October 30, 2016 09:49 PM (KWUK6) Food and guns are good, but I'm not a fan of baseball. I had fun playing in little league in elementary school, so OK it's a neat sport. But I also like leaving AM radio on quietly for ambient noise while I'm sleeping, and baseball games are kind of lousy for that. They all seem to start at some ridiculous time like 9PM when I'm about to go to bed. Then some jerk yells "Miguelllll Cabrerrrra!" at 11PM and at 2AM cheerfully says "you're listening to Monday night baseball!" No, Prince of Lies, it's Tuesday and I have to go to work in five hours. Who is watching baseball at midnight?

181 here is just something about a full-sized M1911. I have never held or fired another pistol that fits my hand so perfectly. It may not be right for everyone but it is the perfect pistol for me. Thank you Mr. Browning. Posted by: WarEagle82 at October 30, 2016 09:02 PM (LHa1m) Many years ago, the Army-issue Colt 1911 .45 was my assigned weapon when I was assigned Assistant Gunner on the M60 machinegun (a step up from Ammo Carrier, believe me). I shot it for qualification several times and remain unimpressed. For its day, it was a superb weapon and those Kimber match 1911s are dreamboats but--to me from a purely objective standpoint--I just don't see the appeal.

187 #73 Mrs. JTB has good taste in pistols. I like CZ-75's myself and have several of them in various finishes. I actually fired the match twice, once with a CZ and once with the Glock 17 but my middle aged eyeballs have an easier time with the Trijicon HD's I have on the Glock. I think the rear sight on the CZ needs to be drifted because it was shooting to the right. It created a big ol' gaping hole on the right side of the x ring and the line between the 10 and the x on the right side was no longer visible.
