7 So, is this Budapest Memorandum a real thing? Did Bill Clinton really sign it? Does it really promise that the US and UK will help protect Ukraine's borders? Did Congress have to ratify it? Confused about the legal standing of the Budapest Memorandum.

America is, I believe, treaty bound to defend Japan if China attacked it. We also have a mutual defense pact with Australia, right? Not sure who else. Just wondering if there are these things below a treaty that Presidents go around signing saying, yeah, sure, we'll help defend you -- but which have no real weight. Did Clinton sign such a thing, but Ukraine didn't realize it wasn't a real treaty and so had no legal weight in the US system?

89 I guess those charts were made before we started cooling in 1998 even as CO2 went up.  The problem isn't sensitivity.  The problems is there is no man-made global warming at all.

It is all the normal cyclic nature of the temperature as has been seen for a million years.

My guess is before June 1.

92 70  If Putin is in a 'reclaiming old territories' mode...then Alaska would likely be his first target.

Barky already gave him a piece of it; ...those 7 Alaska islands.
And Putin claimed the North Pole as Russian territory, back in 2007.

So Putin could just say..."Hey, we think you didn't pay us enough for that Alaska territory. So we're taking it back now."

99 About the only chit the Ukrainians have is to shut off the Russian gas pipelines to Europe - and they have to do it while Europe needs the gas.  The US can do very little, if we had stood up a bit taller in Georgia and had a presence in the area - then maybe.

Treaties are only as good as the government that is backing them.  After the US Congress screwed the South Vietnamese in 1975, by not providing promised defense aid, people doubted the word of the US for a decade.  It took a Reagan to change their minds.

After Barack, no one will trust the US

In the podcast...Jim Lakely mentions the affects that the Solar System has on our climate...

Thank you.

Yes, it's been noted by some scientists that the other planets in our solar system have been experiencing their own 'global warming'.

It's primarily from the Sun.

And they figure that it is a cyclical phenomenon that's been going on for eons, as our solar system moves through solar cycles and also moves through the galaxy.

But the 'global warming' fanatics don't want to acknowledge that...or even hear about it.

113 No thread on the Syrian Rebels amputating a thief's hand to cleanse him of his sins? ISIS insists that the thief begged them to cut off his hand. "ISIS is deemed too radical even by al-Qaeda" -- because al-Qaeda only decapitates people with rusty knifes live video broadcasts. ISIS leaves the maimed alive (so long as they recover). But since Obama had officially declared al-Qaeda the US ally instead of #1 enemy (9-11-01 happened a long time ago, so forgetaboutit) and the WaPo is there to sell us the line, given readers who can't remember from week to week, let along a year or decade ago, ISIS is "even too radical" for al-Qaeda. pfft What to make of it? ISIS, an outgrowth of al-Qaeda, won't play pattycake with the US directing the destabilizations (aka Arab Spring wars that never end). They don't feel appreciated? Not getting enough US tax funded perks? More CAKE! When Iraq was "democratized" by US military directive to win hearts and minds of enemies, the population factions really did not each wish to stay united and bound in one nation (Kurds wanted their own territorial sovereignty). It is simply ridiculous for ISIS to expect others to believe that the Iraqis AND all the Syrians want to cozy up together into one union nation. They have at times conquered the other, taking turns playing top dog. But the Assyrians and the Babylonians never were the "same" civilization, people or language. "Suddenly" in 2014 we're supposed to think ISIS is about anything beyond mercenary barbarism? Hell, ISIS can't even get a majority support from either Syrians OR Iraqis. = "Syrian extremists amputated a man’s hand and live-tweeted it" WaPo Feb28 http://tinyurl.com/mrl4cou The amputation by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria rebels took place in the remote rural town of Maskanah in the northern province of Aleppo. ISIS evolved from the al-Qaeda-affiliated Islamic State of Iraq. Rebel groups impose strict execution of Islamic law. The blindfolded man is a thief who had his hand cut off "in order to cleanse his sins." It took at least 4 sword strikes to sever the hand from his arm. = Parable of the Merciless Servant http://tinyurl.com/mfoanwe falls on deaf ears "Allah is Merciful" but his servants are not.
