15 That swatting in VA is chilling. It sounds like the cops handled it well though I do wonder what would have happened if the guy had still been inside the 7-11 when the cops showed up. Also the timeline on this is very fast. Someone had to decide almost instantly to call the cops and say this.

Cultural Marxists, aka Social Justice Warriors, flexing their power and scamming money. GamerGate, aka basement-dwelling homophobic, misogynist dweebs are the ones that oppose them.

The Cultural Marxists will soon invade whatever space that they haven't already. That includes whatever non-basement dwelling hobby you enjoy. Act accordingly.

Why should we care about the possibility of using it to convince people that are possibly in the dem camp that what they are trying to force in them is what they do everywhere. OK looking above, it sez sommat about 'cultural marxists' and etc. Where I get stuck is how in blazes is it possible for whoever they are to insert themselves into games anyhow? 94 For those who want to conspicuously say they 'don't get' GamerGate: Pretend its sports. The corrupt sports media like ESPN push their favored ones (Donovan McNabb, Michael Sam) or crucify the only-tangential disfavored ones (Sterling, etc.). And they inevitably push LEFT. Then, if fans protest, they're called racist/sexist/homophobes. Same thing as in GamerGate, but about computer games, which, despite derision, is a huge industry with millions of fans who can have their political awareness heightened.

Seriously, let me try in simple language: GamerGate is interesting because the gamers are fighting back against the Left and *winning*.  They used straight-up Alinsky tactics and have dealt financial harm to Gawker Media, one of the HQ's bete noirs.

Whatever it is we do here, it is not winning.  So it's important to take note when someone actually deals damage to the institutional Left.

137 @66 WTF is Gamergate? Can anyone 'splain it in a few sentences? ---------------- Wanna-be female video game maker makes something that's not really a game. Video game reviewers give it much better reviews than the players do. Female's boyfriend suddenly decides to post names of individuals in the industry that female cheated on him with - including at least one journalist who gave the game a good review. Gamers get upset, particularly after learning that other game review people helped finance her "not really a game". Female claims "Misogyny!" By complete coincidence *cough* several on-line video game journalists all write articles mocking gamers at pretty much the same time. Intel realizes that these articles are insulting its customers, and pulls its ads from a site that posted one of the articles. Someone else can no doubt go into more detail. The female in question is named Zoe Quinn. She wrote something that wasn't really a game called "Depression Quest". She'd earlier been in the news decrying supposed barriers to entry into video game development for females. And then also been in the news when she torpedoed a group called Fine Young Capitalists who were attempting to help would-be female game developers. Quinn claimed that her reason for doing so was because the group wasn't accepting submissions from transgenders who identified as male, though my personal suspicions have more to do with ego. I will note, in fairness to Quinn, that her claimed sexual liaison with a game reviewer doesn't match up with when the review on her not-a-game was written. Right around the time that the anti-gamer articles turned up it also came to light that there was a video game journalist version of Journolist. We know about it because the guy who created it has stated that it existed and that he created it. He's clarified that not everyone who was a member of it followed the pack when it came to articles and reviews... but most of the members did. Currently the officially stated positions of each side in the dispute boil down to this - Pro-Gamergate - There's too much corruption in video game journalism, and Quinn's mess was the flashpoint for the anger finally bubbling over. Anti-Gamergate - Gamers are all a bunch of misogynists, and that's the reason for all of the hatred directed at Quinn and others. We need to encourage the creation of games that view women more positively. And there's the various sociopaths who enjoy egging both sides on with things like death threats, rape threats, doxxing, etc... That's a very brief overview of it, though I'm sure that there's a lot more that can be said about it.

I'd heard rumblings about this, but not being particularly interested in gaming, hadn't looked into the matter. ------------------------ Everyone here - even people who aren't gamers - should be at least peripherally aware of the mess. Games are a huge business these days, and make lots of money. Lots of people turn to them for entertainment. Games are already trending somewhat in the same direction as Hollywood, and keeping them from getting any further down that road is important.

When I was in grad school at Berkeley I dated a gal who'd graduated from Berkeley High the year before, and while as a mid-20 something I was no ingenue, she was more worldly than I was. While a bright and talented gal (daughter of a Berkeley faculty member), and not a radical or druggie herself, she was very familiar with extreme left-wing politics, with black nationalist thugs, with drug culture and references (laughing at jokes I didn't get), and calmly talked about a number of friends she'd lost to ODs.
Imagine dating a former undercover cop, and you've got the picture.

Did I want my children to grow up in that environment? Did I hell.

There are all kinds of girlie games which baby daughter will not touch with a bargepole (just left for college and is really wowing the nerds on campus). I see the parallels to Correia and the SF flap. Same type of fan targeted by whiny SJWs because the fans are not interested in their posturing.

The gun-grabbers have been more and more aggressively egging one another on to engage in such false crime-in-progress calls.

Wondering here about the extent to which such callers open themselves up to civil liability. Were a person carrying legally and committing no crime to be mistakenly shot by responding police, obviously and massively so.

But how about if a person carrying legally and committing no crime is merely confronted by police at gunpoint? It's obviously a situation fraught with risk (possible lethal risk) for the carrier, which but for the false call would not have come to pass. Civilly actionable?

The progs love a shitty area to expand. The only time they're upset is when a formerly shitty area starts to recover, as higher primates move into it. They deplore this "gentrification," saying it destroys the authenticity of the neighborhood. For some things, such as curry (invented to hide the smell and taste of meat that had gone bad), authenticity is not a virtue.

258 Currently the officially stated positions of each side in the dispute boil down to this - Pro-Gamergate - There's too much corruption in video game journalism, and Quinn's mess was the flashpoint for the anger finally bubbling over. Posted by: junior at October 31, 2014 04:38 PM (UWFpX) The most important thing: #GamerGate is winning. Advertisers are leaving corrupt clickbait gaming blogs, and the anti #GG folks are escalating by getting MSNBC and Colbert to weigh in on how gamers are horrible people - which is probably going to work as well as when they first coordinated a "Gamers are Dead" wave of articles. There is a great opportunity here because gamers are generally left-leaning young'ns, but they're being unjustly targeted by leftists. This can be a learning moment for them, AND a big poke in the eye of the left when the gamers win. One fun thing left-leaning gamers have discovered: Breitbart, that bastion of horrible right-wing nuts - is reasonably covering their side of the story. Don't let a crisis go to waste.

Because finally someone, somewhere, is standing up to the SJWs...even if they are Frito eating mom-basement dwelling geeks.

It sounds like the cops handled it well though I do wonder what would have happened if the guy had still been inside the 7-11 when the cops showed up.

Also the timeline on this is very fast. Someone had to decide almost instantly to call the cops and say this.

Posted by: alexthechick - Commence drinking now. at October 31, 2014 03:59 PM (mf5HN)

I must disagree. "Handling it well" would have been sending a unit to the 7-11 to see if they had, in fact, been robbed before stopping anyone, and the little cowardly shit called the cops from the 7-11 as the guy drove away WITH THE INTENT of having the guy stopped and, hopefully (in their eyes), shot by the police. That's what the SWAT game is all about dontchaknow.

IMAO, the best fix is to apply punitive punishment to the fraudulent caller. This could have gotten the gun owner killed - it should be prosecuted as attempted murder. Throw a few people in prison for life, and see how often Swatting still happens.

293 Maybe a more succinct summary of GamerGate is this: How would the Horde react if a bunch of leftist blogs banded together and reported "AoS/Moron/ettes are dead" and then tried to shut down the blog? A bunch of game blogs banded together and reported that "Gamers were Dead". The blogs then tried to censor gamer response by banning and deleting comments on an LGF scale. Gamers were predictably not amused - and are discovering how to fight the Left and win. We best take notes.
