And the Oscar Goes to... The Pretend Competency of the Media-Political Complex
— Ace

Oh, boy. They gave Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway the wrong envelope -- they gave them a duplicate envelope containing the best actress winner, Emma Stone for La La Land. Faye Dunaway apparently ignored the "Emma Stone" at the top and read the Best Picture as La La Land.

These people have done this before. Shouldn't they have realized the Best Picture card shouldn't have the name of an actress on it?

At any rate, the Price Waterhouse accountants then had to come out and tell them that La La Land had lost, and Moonlight had won.

It was awkward:

Update: Clownshoes on.

I think what happened there is that the woman named did in fact die, but they ran the photo of a living woman.

6 AND they did not mention Robert Vaughn, Guy Hamilton, or Garry Handling in the In Memorium segment... Vaughn was nominated for an Oscar in 1959. Plus, they used the wrong picture for one of the women who died. SO glad I didn't watch this - and after all the political bloviating this past year I may never watch another awards show again.

13 I'm hearing it suggested that the Old Oscar Insiders wanted, veddy much, for their dahling LaLa to take it all, but were faced with dour necessity in Ghey Black Film, and contrived this little nastiness, letting the masque slip as 'twere, as a sort of in-joke for their own amusement. Here you go...Boy.

I'd be even more delighted to find evidence of that, than a mere screwup.
Because that's just how nasty-minded these half-percenters really are, when the DeMille Close-Up lights are off.

All the plastic surgery anesthesia has evidently affected brain cells in Warren Beatty that he couldn't think to ask did he get the wrong card. Then he hands it to a woman so he won't be the one announcing it wrong. And they make fun of Trump? All the pious sanctimony in one room where they parade the little people through like animals in a zoo. If they had even a speck of common sense they would realize how Trump won. And ratings are down from last year.

Posted by: TheJamesMadison ______ I wouldn't say he "figured it out" The "best actress" card has Emma Stone's name most prominently listed at the very top in big letters. The idea that "Emma Stone" would appear in big, bold letters instead of the name of one of the films nominated is something you would hope a veteran Hollywood mogul could figure out was a mistake. The cards themselves aren't supposed to be cue cards to help them with their introduction, they simply name the category winner and the film they were in.

179 31 I didn't watch. Did they make up for not giving out enough unearned participation trophies last year by overcompensating and giving half of the awards to the 3% of the eligible candidates that just happened to be Filmmakers of Color? Posted by: Moron Robbie at February 27, 2017 11:52 AM (/f1mm) -------------------------------- Why, yes, they did! To be fair, it's hard to say whether the "Moonlight" voters were all about teh Black or teh Ghey, but, hey, it still works. And half of the acting awards went to blacks. Okay, they did pass up Ruth Negga* for best actress and Denzel for best actor. They COULD have made it a black sweep. So there is still room for improvement!

270 For no good reason, other than I like the quote -- Spotted at a booth at a gun show:

Tricia Croney, owner of Pretty Hunter, stood at her booth filled with repurposed bullets turned into jewelry. Over the top of her booth is a quote in black cursive lettering on a pink background. It's from Annie Oakley: "I ain't afraid to love a man. I ain't afraid to shoot him either."

I nominate this quote for an Oscar.

As for "something might be wrong here" that was not in the teleprompter. If it's not in the teleprompter and not on the card, they won't say it.

Which tells you all you need to know, lol. At least Amy Adams sang her own song from Enchanted the year it was nominated. Gosling had to learn piano and jazz from scratch from his role, I still think he did an impressive job with that, despite the singing and dancing. I also laughed that Manuel Miranda lost out on an Oscar for Best Song and the coveted EGOT to a white guy. He'll get it eventually. But I am amused for now. He HAD to insert Hamilton style rapping before the Moana song came on that he helped write, because of course he did. The girl that sang the Moana song was impressive, hope she gets some Broadway in her future.

350 The only reason I'm surprised La La Land DIDN'T win is b/c media loves nothing so much as celebrating itself.  It's like how postmodernist art critics make every art piece (or "text" as they call them) into the artist's deliberate or unintended metaphor for the artistic process, or how TV shows like 30 Rock or The Newsroom hang on for seasons longer than they should have b/c they're about the PROCESS of making TV.  La La Land is about Hollywood making Hollywood movies, which is why everyone in Hollywood loves it.

I guarantee you the only reason it lost is b/c Moonlight was about and by a black homosexual.  After last year's #OscarsSoWhite kerfluffle, the Academy got spooked.  That doesn't mean Moonlight ISN'T a better movie than La La Land; I haven't seen either of them, or any of the other nominees for that matter, so I don't know.  But again, knowing media's masturbatory love of telling its own story, even if it were the WORST movie of all those nominated, in ANY OTHER YEAR, La La Land would have won.

Just not after last year.

After a charged moment, the boys kiss and Kevin gives Chiron a handjob. No wonder it won.

IIRC, at one point Cuba (I think it was) decided that "red" should mean "go" (because Communism = progress; you know, the typical brain-dead leftist symbolism) and "green" should mean "stop." (I guess "yellow" meant "go get some egg rolls," or something.)

The results were predictable, and the policy was soon reversed.

IDK if this actually true, or an urban legend, but it's stupid enough and characteristic enough of leftist thinking to be the former.
