And the only reason Ferdinand's wife got killed that day was because he insisted on her traveling with him.  Due to the byzantine protocol of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Archduchess Sophie Chotek could not, when in Austria or Hungary, walk with or be seated beside her husband (it was a morganatic marriage; even though she was nobility, her bloodline was not sufficiently pure).

Ferdinand hated this, and whenever he traveled, insisted on his wife being given the same treatment that he, as Heir Apparent, got.

66 idiots at work: Yahoo runs the following headline on its from page

"House passes $10B transportation revenue package"

WTF..?

then you look at the article:

"A day after it was voted down, a $10 billion transportation revenue package that includes a 10 1/2-cent increase in the gas tax was approved Thursday by the state House.

The measure passed on a 51-41 vote and now heads to the Senate, where it is expected to face resistance. On Wednesday, the measure had failed to receive the required 50 votes, a rare bill failure in the Democratic-controlled House."

You'd think they'd say in the headline that it was Washington State...

74 hi caustic the cat piss troll what proof do i have that you are a bigot? remember when you said you wouldn't vote for romney because he was a member of a cult.....want me to post your actual comment? here you go!!! 502 Mitt Romney might know how to create jobs. He might know how to fix the economy. He might know what has to be done. Problem is, although he had to deal with a democratic legislature in Massachusetts, he hasn't had to deal with DC. If everything falls the republicans way then it will be 4 years of soft balls and a fix. But, if everything doesn't fall their way or if having a republican congress and senate proves to be meaningless then he might have a disaster on his hands. Gingrich, on the other hand has already had the government experience. He knows how to work the system. He would get things done republican dominated congress or senate wouldn't matter to him. He know who to call on to get things accomplished. Santorum also knows the ins and outs of DC. But they are going to pull the "6th most corrupt" thing on him and bring up his wife living with the old geezer when she was young. Those are just the things they've floated so far. And they are already asking him the motivations for his votes that they don't agree with. Every time I think I'm close to choosing between Gingrich and Santorum then I see something else that throws me back into my indecision. I won't vote for mittens as I take my vote seriously and I'm not voting for a cult member who is buying the presidency. Plus my gut feeling says not to vote for him. So I need to choose between the two. Posted by: tinsley at February 02, 2012 07:53 PM (oZfic) have a great day!

Exciting news...

Two new documentaries are scheduled for release between now and 2016 to set the stage for Marco Rubio's Historic Presidential Campaign:

The first film, called "The Unaccomplished" details all of Rubio's Historic accomplishments, such as being born and loving America.

This will be followed by the next chapter, "The Unqualified", which explains why the Historic Marco Rubio should be president based on his smile and bi-partisanship, but mostly his smile.

About that Alec Baldwin thing. Isn't it a crime to threaten to fuck somebody up? In my home state Indiana, for example, if I tell somebody I'm going to hurt them/hit them/make them cry like a little girl, that's assault (I think), and then if I go through with it and pound them into the ground like a tent peg, that's battery. If I use a weapon and/or cause major, life-threatening damage, then battery escalates to felony country with aggravated assault or attempted murder.

Not a lawyer and I've mellowed considerably since my more, er, colorful youth and no longer find myself in such situations, so I'm not really sure. Maybe one of the horde attorneys could put me to some knowledge. Shouldn't this self-entitled, batshit-crazy celebrity be behind bars?

Those same representatives have a tough choice to make -- change their ways and join the efforts to fix our broken immigration system, grow our economy, and reduce our deficit -- or continue to pursue an anti-immigrant, anti-family, anti-reform agenda."

148 John Good: darker-skinned person was doing "ground pound" on fella on bottom. #Trayvon, #Zimmerman Interesting note. In Texas as the law is normally applied, if you pick a fight and start losing, you don't get to escalate the violence (that is: start shooting) UNLESS you attempt to extract yourself from the violence and either cannot do so (say, if someone is on top of you "ground pounding" you), or the person follows you and reinitiates the violence. Now, that may or may not be a strict "as written" interpretation, but it is how the law tends to be enforced. I wonder if if Florida is (normally) the same?

The biggest mistake we ever made (and Palin is in part responsible for this) was letting the dems subtly swap the IPAB for the counseling sessions during the "death Panel debate."

Hell, I read most of the bill, and the first time through I missed the significance of the IPAB buried under the rest of the crap. The conversation was stolen from us and we made no attempt to replace it.

207 Interesting note. Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) at June 28, 2013 10:25 AM (/PCJa) I lived in a community (Solano Co., CA) where if the other guy started it, you had the right to finished it, including shooting to death. 212 The media REALLY doesn't like the idea that someone (the defense) would impugn the story of a black witness, particularly one of such classic underprivileged status. Such people are to be excused and compensated for in their reckoning, not made to appear insufficient and incapable. Even-- especially!-- when they are. When they argue that Jeantel has to be understood 'in context,' they're actually arguing that she be held to a lower standard of behavior, expression, and competence. IOW, they're looking down their snobby nose at her and treating her as an inferior.

Posted by: zsasz at June 28, 2013 05:43 AM (MMC8r)

213 First they tried to keep a story alive under "if it bleeds it leads." (Was it a slow news week?) But they didn't just "[try] to keep a story alive." They dug it up, hooked up the jumper-cables, and revived it. The police and the DA had opted not to file charges some time before the whole thing became national news. It wasn't "if it bleeds it leads," it was a deliberate attempt to gin up race-hate (by blacks against whites). Then it go away from the local people and the media was so afraid of their monster they let it control them. I don't believe that, either. The willful editing of tape (both audio and visual) to make it look like Zimmerman was guilty? The constant showing of Trayvon's 12 year old picture? All they had to do was *not* do those things, and they would have toned down most of it.

It's been a while so I don't remember the source, sorry, but I understood that Zimmerman claimed the reason he ended up shooting Martin was because he was afraid that in the scuffle Martin had felt the gun and would use it on him. In other words, if accurate, Zimmerman was willing to be beaten severely but not to be shot with his own gun (which is fair). He certainly took a fair amount of damage before being willing to pull the trigger.

228 Why does my laptop get so hot when I'm watching video and is there anything I can do to fix that? You video card has a special processor (or processors) called a GPU. It's just like the computer's CPU, but special for the video card itself. Whenever you do anything that is graphics intensive (like watch video), that GPU starts working harder, causing it to heat up (just like doing serious number-crunching makes the CPU heat up). Laptops don't have a lot of room for fans and heat-sinks, so they're not as good at dissipating the heat as desktops. That's the why. No, you can't do anything about it. If the issue is that you're setting your laptop on your lap and it's uncomfortable, there are a variety of lapdesks available.

245 Good positively identifies Trayvon© from the 7/11 video as the person on top in the fight womping away on Z. So, once more, we have corroboration of Zimmerman's account (he said Trayvon was on top of him from the beginning), yet further adding to the "benefit of the doubt" which should be extended regarding any particular details which cannot be verified (like, say, who threw the first punch). And, again, even if he threw the first punch- once T was on top of him, slamming his head into the pavement, normal application of the law (at least here in TX) would call that a "just shoot" since he had no option of breaking off the violence (that is: just take his beating and try to get away).

CPU and graphics processor are probably running at max and the power management won't be kicked in.

I got a couple of 1/4" thick wood shims I spaced mine off the desk with so there's some air flow underneath.

Home Depot sells some real cheap wood yard sticks for like $1 that would be perfect for the task.  There's more expensive fancy fan equipped laptop cradles of course too, but the wood shims seem to work just fine.

252 If the prosecution is believed to be credible and representative of the justice system as it is today, then the Zimmerman trial is a pretty good indicator of just how far the justice 'system' has degraded. The whole thing seems to me like an attempt by the media to use St. Skittles to advance a narrative: that poor black kids are victims of the overall 'system'. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is even more enraging that Captain Asshat and his poverty pimp minions like Sharpton, Jackson Crump, Farrakhan, et al are being bandied about the SCUM as some kind of authorities on peaceful race relations.

Jeff Olson, the 40-year-old man who is being prosecuted for scrawling anti-megabank messages on sidewalks in water-soluble chalk last year now faces a 13-year jail sentence. A judge has barred his attorney from mentioning freedom of speech during trial.

According to the San Diego Reader, which reported on Tuesday that a judge had opted to prevent Olson’s attorney from “mentioning the First Amendment, free speech, free expression, public forum, expressive conduct, or political speech during the trial,” Olson must now stand trial for on 13 counts of vandalism.

In addition to possibly spending years in jail, Olson will also be held liable for fines of up to $13,000 over the anti-big-bank slogans that were left using washable children’s chalk on a sidewalk outside of three San Diego, California branches of Bank of America, the massive conglomerate that received $45 billion in interest-free loans from the US government in 2008-2009 in a bid to keep it solvent after bad bets went south.

The Reader reports that Olson’s hearing had gone as poorly as his attorney might have expected, with Judge Howard Shore, who is presiding over the case, granting Deputy City Attorney Paige Hazard’s motion to prohibit attorney Tom Tosdal from mentioning the United States’ fundamental First Amendment rights.

“The State’s Vandalism Statute does not mention First Amendment rights,” ruled Judge Shore on Tuesday.

278 Helps somewhat but if I'm watching video it doesn't keep it cool enough and the computer gets slow and choppy. Yeah, try cleaning it (I prefer canned air to vacuuming, because vacuuming CAN (not "will" but "can") cause electrostatic discharge (it's rare, but it happens), and then you no longer have a laptop, you have a very large, very expensive paperweight. If you are going to vacuum, get one with fairly low suction. Depending on the age of the machine, you may just need a new one, though. Processing requirements keep going up, and it's hard for older processors to keep up. Also, just like any machine made of moving parts (the fact the parts move on a microscopic scale is irrelevant), eventually the bits just get old and worn out.

Yes, and on the flip side, look at what they withhold from other stories (or stories not evern reported), such as the political affiliation of corrupt Dem politicians and the religion and ethnicity of domestic jihadis.

It's all about the narrative in service to political goals. "Racism is alive and well in 2013" helps get Obama re-elected. "Tsarnev alienated immigrant" vs. "James Holmes is a tea Party nut" helps reinforce their Tea Party/right-wing militia is the biggest terror threat to the US.

That's the temp sensors throttling the CPU back to keep it from frying.

If its light on memory and the HDD is buzzing away constantly, that'll generate a bunch of heat too.

Might try reducing the display color depth to 16-bit.  That should ~halve the amount of data getting sloshed around at the expense of seeing some modest color banding in the video.

Human eyes can resolve a bit more than 16-bits of color, but nowhere near 32 or 24 used in "true color" modes.

287 An Archduke held not only a royal but a priestly position. The Archduke was also the Bishop of his duchy. Such a rank was held by a despot of "choleric conservatism" Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Este. The German historian Michael Freund described Franz Ferdinand as "a man of uninspired energy, dark in appearance and emotion, who radiated an aura of strangeness and cast a shadow of violence and recklessness ... a true personality amidst the amiable inanity that characterized Austrian society at this time." His relations with Emperor Franz Joseph were tense; the emperor's personal servant recalled in his memoirs that "thunder and lightning always raged when they had their discussions." In the Archduke's diaries he kept track of an estimated 300,000 game kills. The War Zone (1999) historical documentary series on Netflix (not to be mistaken for the Tim Roth directorial debut movie). It occurred to me that Europe (America tag-along) was willing to start a treaty-required world war over a single political assassination in Bosnia of an abusive monarchist. But after that horrendous "Great" FUBAR War to End All Wars, Europe (America tag-along) was not willing to enter a war against the single country (German Third Reich) arbitrarily violating all other country's and populations right to exist. Since WWII, the US interventionist wars have been to create puppet regimes while global corporatists rape the countries and peoples. "We came. We saw. We killed. Bwahahaha!" Beyond the leadership's "Because I Could," our political rationale as constituents? "It was for their own good that we tried to win their hearts and minds..." Hell, France said the EXACT same line as they warred to the extinction of their empire after WWII in IndoChina and Algeria. Sick. Choleric conservatism yet abounds rebranded as neoconservatism. For God and Country. Where there are no borders, and btw, God is Dead.

421 The "Bert and Ernie are gay' thing is symptomatic of our current society where adults are childish and children are adultified. 437 The Prosecutor is now advancing the theory that Zimmerman was on top swinging away at Travon MMA style, but missing him every time, with Travon screaming for help.

Awesome!  Has the Prosecutor ever seen an MMA fight?  When the person on top swings at the person below and misses, they hit the ground.  It's not terribly uncommon to break bones that way, with gloves, and wraps, and against a mat.

If Zimmerman's hands were NOT swollen, scuffed, broken, and bloody that argument is insane.  What's the theory?  Z was swinging so wildly that he was not hitting anything?
