40 Fun Facts About Superman
— Ace

Recounts Kevin Smith's notorious rips on hairdresser/producer Jon Peters. But fails to mention's Peters' demand that Braniac (the villain in earlier scripts) have some kind of a cute alien dog-creature who Braniac would hate but would be forced, for some reason, to care for rather than kill.

Peters insisted on this because he felt he needed a cute toy for merchandising deals with McDonalds or Burger King. "I need my Wookie," he would say over and over.

Thanks to The Corner.

3 Saw it this PM at the opener. First half hour gets an F but the next two hours was pretty good. I thought Brandon Routh was decent as Superman. And contrary to many critics, I found Kate Bosworth to be an excellent Lois Lane. The storyline was decent although there are an awful lot of plotholes if you're the picky type. There are only a handful of speaking roles, so everything was tightly clustered which was a good thing. The only negative for me was Kevin Spacey as Lex Luther. I've never cared for Spacey and never will. He nearly ruined it for me. I would have edited the movie differently in the first half hour--most of it would be gone. The opening title sequence is stellar and the music is typically "Super" as one would expect.

4 Agreed about the actors. The acting, effects, soundtrack, cinematography were absolutely brilliant.

Unfortunately the writing was awful. Not that I was expecting Shakespeare out of a superhero film, but the plot holes and constant narrative dropping grows and grows until the film climaxes with two completely contradictory scenarios.

It's a shame, because Singer brought excellent technical skills to the project. The movie looks and sounds great. He simply shouldn't have had any part in writing it.

I dissect it at length here. (Warning, gay blogads on that site).
