AGW treacherously hides evidence of itself
— Purple Avenger

Its a devious and cunning wizard donning what appears to be a +9 cloak of invisibility to work its satanically inspired world destroying magic.

...1. The greenhouse signature is missing. We have been looking and measuring for years, and cannot find it...

...2. There is no evidence to support the idea that carbon emissions cause significant global warming. None...

...3. The satellites that measure the world's temperature all say that the warming trend ended in 2001, and that the temperature has dropped about 0.6C in the past year (to the temperature of 1980)...

...4. The new ice cores show that in the past six global warmings over the past half a million years, the temperature rises occurred on average 800 years before the accompanying rise in atmospheric carbon. Which says something important about which was cause and which was effect...

...What is going to happen over the next decade as global temperatures continue not to rise? The Labor Government is about to deliberately wreck the economy in order to reduce carbon emissions. If the reasons later turn out to be bogus, the electorate is not going to re-elect a Labor government for a long time. When it comes to light that the carbon scare was known to be bogus in 2008, the ALP is going to be regarded as criminally negligent or ideologically stupid for not having seen through it. And if the Liberals support the general thrust of their actions, they will be seen likewise...

1 I watched Soylent Green with Charlton Heston last night. This movie was made around 1973 and as they mention "global warming".  What if the idea for global warming came from a movie and because of the money to be made off tax payer, it grew to what it is today.

2 FDR per Amity Shlaes in The Forgotten Man, worsened the Depression but was re-elected for a third term in 1940. Never underestimate the  power of the Dark Side of Big Government and Big Media. The blame for the economic depression from Global Warming will be laid on Capitalism.  The "light" Fascism of the Democratic and Labor Parties requires the illusion of angst and struggle in order to perpetuate itself.  In the end , it's all about smoke, mirrors, zero-sum game arguments and believing the electorate to be a bunch of  malleable suckers.

Shunha - not really - the same people uluating about TEOTWAWKI from warming were predicting a new ice age, global famine killing off most of humanity, "the population bomb", that we would have run out of oil and precious metals by now, and any of dozens of other catastrophes that failed to happen.

The paradox is that liberals and other scientifically illterate people pushing this crap actually have an incredibly tiny view of the world wherein they think that the planet has an ideal static state that conforms to an infantile fantasy of a pre-Columbian Eden that never existed, and any deviation from that fantasy is a) TEOTWAWKI, b) caused by man, and c) must be avoided at all costs.

In short, the "progressives" fear change, no matter how natural, or insignificant. We'll ignore the overwhelming hubris of man being capable of "destroying" the planet but it would have been hilarious seeing these guys were they back in the Cambrian when the CO2 level was 7000 ppm - not the measly 380 or so it is now - screaming how we are all going to die.

4 What would be really funny is if all these AGW-supporting ACLU types woke up and realized they've been advocating for state establishment of the religion of global warming all this time.

The cognitive dissonance required to be a liberal to begin with is so strong, though, that I'm sure they'll just move on to the next big thing without missing a beat.

"The evidence was not conclusive, but why wait until we were certain when it appeared we needed to act quickly?"

A reasonable attitude. If a large meteor appeared to be heading towards Earth, it would be foolish not to take action. But liberals, being the opportunists that they are, refuse to admit that they might be wrong because they know that this is the chance they've been waiting for to scare the hell out of everyone and advance their agenda. What's really infuriating is that anyone who dares to say otherwise is branded a lunatic and summarily trashed in the media. I caught Joe Bastardi of Accuweather.com on The Dennis Miller Show the other day calling bullshit on the whole concept of man made global warming. Thank God there are people in the know who are willing to confront the alarmists who are trying to defraud us out of our way of life. Fucking dickheads. I fucking hate liberals.

34 "the temperature rises occurred on average 800 years before the accompanying rise in atmospheric carbon."

This is fatal to the AGW theory.

If you tried to argue that an effect occurred before its "cause," in any science or engineering classroom, in any scientific paper, or at any conference, you would be met with laughter.

... unless you were among the warmerists.

35 I'm looking back on the origins of the hoax now, wondering how the Watermelons managed to hang all their hopes on banning plant food.

Seriously, how did CO2 become the bogeyman? It almost looks like it was an accident - how could it have been on purpose?

CO2 is harmless to (most) animals at concentrations many times higher than current.

CO2 is helpful to (most) plants at concentrations many times higher than current - and more plants absorb more CO2...

CO2 may or may not be at or above its saturation point WRT greenhouse effect (meaning adding more CO2 has a trivial or even no effect), but in either case it's a small percentage of GHG in terms of effect.

As the average temp changes, CO2 tends to rise because warmer water can hold less CO2 - CO2 levels tend to rise after warming, prehistorically.

I mean, wasn't there something scarier to hang their hat on?

The really disturbing thing is the number of people who apparently can't read and don't own calculators who buy into this crap.

39 I saw that asshole gore on TV today. I was ready to blow after about three sentences: First off, he said the old bit about how drilling will take 10-15 years to see results, then it was the bit about not bringing down the price of oil at all. My hunch is that it's a new record: two lies by a politician in less than 30 seconds. Of course, my one liberal friend just reminded me the other day that "global warming is a fact. Get used to it". And he's always reminding me that he's the rational one.

There's a Hindu Times article floating around about Russian and Indian resistence to the offical global "warming" position.

This is an interesting development.  China and India have easily the highest carbon emission growth rates.  Russia has the most undeveloped oil.  These three countries have massive capitalistic engines, and they are not about to kill themselves to save a few polar bears.

So we have roughly one-third of the world's population, in societies w/tightly controlled, govt-supervised media.  And they are fighting Al Gore tooth and nail.

Tusher's buds could be our ace in the hole.

If this winter is as bad as last, we should see some serious cracks in the global "warming" meme.

And, BTW, Antarctica is getting BLASTED by winter.  They June temps were over 1.5 degrees C LOWER than average.  So the global cooldown is still progressing.

Science is not something you can mold and shape and twist.  It always comes back to the data.

Posted by: Dogstar at July 20, 2008 09:30 AM (6AcsH)

This is how we could end up killing global "warming".  We need somebody to sue the shit out of the govt or the left, for wasting our tax dollars or hurting our economy.

Al Gore lost a court battle in Britian.  Greenpeace will lose a court battle in Spain.  The global "warmers" lost a couple of small court battles over here.

What we need is a high-profile court battle here in the states.  Maybe a local Chamber of Commerce could sue The Weather Channel?  Whatever.

First of all, David Evans has the wrong kind of degree to even be credible on Anthopogenic Climate Change. Also he's from Australia and is decended from criminals so you just can't trust him.

B. So what if there's no evidence of Anthropogenetic Climate Change or even counter evidence. We just can't take the chance that New York City could be under 20 feet of water soon. We just can't.

Trismegistus, the effort to combat Arthroscopic Aclimactic Chengana will create litereally thousands of new jobs to replace the few jobs lost when possession of any petroleum product (except Vaseline) is made a felony and SUV drivers go to reeducation camps to overcome their hatred of Mother Gaia.

This is an entirely logical and practical plan.

Yep. At least it's a slight improvement over their normal modus operandi, which is to -create- a problem, and then take credit for "fixing" that exact same problem by bringing the catastrophic effects of their policies down to only half as bad as they were before they started their meddling.  This time, at least, they're not actually creating the problem they're bitching about, they're just making it up.  They'll create a whole lot of other (economic) problems in the process of "fixing" global warming, of course, but raping the economy for their own ends, that one's never gonna go out of style for the "progressives".

Gore is on MTP right now getting a tongue bath from Brokaw.  Brokaw opened the segment by saying that there is a growing concensus about GW but there is also a growing debate about the best way to address it.

No, Tom, that is not the debate.  The debate is far more fundamental.  The question is what is causing our temperature to fluctuate, man or the same damn things that have caused it to fluctuate since the begining of time, the sun and it's ever changing heat output and the affect it has on Earth.  Just once, I would like to see someone start off one of these interviews by asking Gore what has caused the measured temperature on other planets in our solar system to mirror the changing temperatures on our planet.

Or that climate-change modelling (post-1996 or so) generally also predicts some periods of cooling in the temperate zones as well as polar ice-melts ... which doesn't help much with the more severe droughts, storms & hurricanes that've come about, in perfect sync with said model ... or that you're merely regurgitating the same nonsense AGAIN from a group whose "Chief Policy Advisor" is none other than the same "Lord" Monckton that you just got done making total asshats of yourselves with a day or two ago?

Yes, you've discovered Teh Trooth ... 99% of climate scientists around the globe are closet Marxists who're in cahoots with the archfiend Al Gore to destroy The Amurrikin Weigh O' Life ... & now the Pentagon's in on it too, the damn cabal of pot-smoking homo-islamo-fascists - since they issued a long-term study that cited climate change as the 21st-Century's #1 threat to global security, as part of their nefarious Crypto-Bolshevik plot.

As of Friday, I didn't think you could actually out-stupid yourselves on this topic.

Tell you what, chump.  You, and Elmer Gore Gantry, should put your money where your big flappy mouths are.  You want us to live "green" to save the planet and reduce a non-pollutant gas like CO2?  Lead by fucking example.

And that doesn't mean driving a Prius and using your own canvas sacks at Whole Foods.  It means giving up the computer you're typing on.  It means not using ANY electricity when you aren't at work (and not just once a year like that lame-ass "Turn Your Lights Off For an Hour" night last spring), and NOT burning candles to compensate.  You don't want to sit in the dark all night?  Go to bed.  It means walking, riding a bike, or taking the bus EVERYWHERE.   It means living in an 800 square foot apartment for the rest of your natural life, not owning a house that will only have, at the most, maybe 4 people inhabiting twice the space of that 800 square foot apartment.  It means NOT running your A/C in the summer and keeping your heat in the winter just warm enough so you don't get sick.  It means giving up most of the creature comforts that modern technology has provided you, ANYTHING that uses oil as a base of production.

If most of the greens were living this way, I could at least respect them demonstrating the courage of their convictions, even if I thought they were being completely stupid and short-sighted.  But they aren't--because ultimately, it's not about what they should do to improve the quality of life on this planet, it's telling everybody else what to do.  Why should I, or anyone with any sense or rationality, follow the adomintions of someone who won't lead by example?

70 Um, you DO know that at the vast majority of what Evans is saying in his "report" is utter horseshit, right?

Well let's have it. Where's the falsehoods, the mistakes, the scientific errors. Let's see your case: hit us with your best shot. I mean it's so obvious, you're so confident this should be easy.

right?

71 "Or are they pretending that in the last 100 years the temps have never risen this quickly?"

Yes, they are.

When I realized that, I was truly shocked. If any of these people have read about the Little Ice Age or the Medieval Warm Period, they've blotted out these inconvenient facts. If any of them ever saw temperature data over million-year spans, they've blocked it out.

***
And to a man, they have themselves convinced that it doesn't matter that temperature rises in the ocean occur BEFORE rises in atmospheric C02 (if they've allowed this fact to permeate their consciousness). In other words, the causality problem does not bother them one bit.

I recommend a book: A Primer on Climate and C02. The author presents a lot of very inconvenient information that any moron can verify for himself.

76 Okay, Let me see if I got this right, as my fate with the Obamessiah and his prophet, the Algoracle, the living two by four, depends on it:

1. When  Algore, high priest of the AGW religion, said in his propaganda master piece 'An Inconvenient  LIE  Truth' that the seas would rise twenty feet or more, when the guy from MIT whose work was hijacked as the  movie's basis  and said it was more like twenty inches, the Algore was actually lying.
Unbelievable. I'm saddened and astonished.

2. When people like Sheryl Crow tell me to wipe my bum with one section of TP, while just one of her leftie concerts uses thousands of houses worth of precious electricity, she's being a hypocritical cow? Is it possible? Do I need absolution from Ed Begley, Jr?

3. When they tell me that the glaciers are receding, which they always do, but a couple of centuries are NOT the depth of recorded history, and I fell anti AGW stirrings about that, am I an anti AGW heretic? Can I go to heaven, or at least an Obama rally to breathe rich Menthol Kool smoke?

4. Under the guidance of Obamessiah's spiritual adviser, the Human Parallam Beam, Algoracle, will anyone in the religion of AGW want to talk about the fact that current short-term weather prediction is piss poor for one reason: There is not enough available computer power in the free world to accurately model moisture in the atmosphere of the earth. Water screws the pooch for 'em.
The weatherguessers can't  even do that little stunt well enough to reliably predict whether a storm will form, or might form. Ditto for hurricanes, their paths, areas of future drought, the whole ball of wax. Can't even get tomorrow's weather right, much less two hundred years from now...
Now, that's the Inconvenient Truth.

Does this mean I am damned in the AGW Church of The Lying Propaganda Tool? Looks like it...
Guess I'll just learn to live  with my carbonic sins.
I even wipe my bum with more than one sheet of butt-wipe.
Hope Sheryl Crow doesn't find out how bad I been. Hope she never finds out how much power and resources go into transient things like her cd's and her website. That power could make alot of butt wipe, I'm thinking.

Now I feel bad about my AGW heresy.
I'll go pray to Brangelina for forgiveness of my non UN approved anti AGW thoughts and this comment. I feel dirty.

77 On the other hand, this could be more crap, like population explosions that never arrived, or the endangering of the polar bears when there are three times as many now as there were in 1950, when no one worried about them until hunting season.

Does anyone on the left want to hear t that Alaska is suing the Federal Gubmint because the EPA registry of polar bears was based in part on a friendly leftist judge saying, in public, that AGW 'MIGHT cause them to be endangered' in the distant future? And Alaska wants this preemptive listing removed so they can allow oil drilling in the bear's territory? Oddly enough, everywhere in the Arctic region you could drill for oil IS BEAR TERRITORY...amazing,no?
Does anyone who believes in the AGW faith want to start the ball rolling by renouncing gas, modern conveniences and jets? How about leaving your gas using cars, your large and energy inefficient mansions for small yurts, to live with nature, like the Mongolians do? Hike to work. Skip your next movie with a message and use your time weaving clothing out of non-harvested hemp gathered from the ground  where it fell naturally. Woody Harrelson could
set the example there. Never seeing another winner like The Cowboy Way or Money Train would definitely lower the pollution coming out of Hollyweird.

Damn, these people make my skin crawl.

The Y2K thing was very real.  Its just that business spent the 5 years prior reworking their code and upgrading hardware in earnest to minimize the impact.

No, no it was not.

You're talking about the Y2K bug that was of mild note back in 1996, when it would provide annoying and potentially costly errors for select businesses and systems unless it was corrected - for which there was ample time. Of no great concern to the populace at large and of minor concern (you only have 4 years left!) to certain business and government sectors.

I'm talking about the Y2K of media fame - the one you had to buy generators and canned goods and $300 patches for Windows ME on a home media pc, and $200 survival kits and a shotgun for, because society would collapse into chaos, long distance communications would go dead, planes were going to fall out of the sky, computers would scream and explode, machines would turn on their masters, and milk and perscription drugs would spoil 100 years before they were even made!

Oh.  Well that stuff was just stupid.  What the hell did they think all the prior 5-6 years worth of work at IT shops all over the globe was for?  We were making sure those dire scenarios wouldn't (for the most part) be happening.

Only a small handful of stuff fell through the cracks.  I recall one issue with the gas pumps at Shell stations, and a few other relatively minor glitches.

There was a relatively significant credit card processing error that hit hard in Asia-Pacific, not quite so bad here.  Lasted a couple of days.  I remember restaurants in Taipei that couldn't take a Visa or MC.

Some ATM goofs too.  Most of it was prevented with a shitload of program research and correction; hell it took us 5 years and 5-10 programmers to clean up our stuff.
