— Ace Here's the big blank empty where the post had been.
On the front page, they duly note the NYT is reporting the selection has been made, but gone all are references to the Page's "sources" claiming Drudge was in error.
Why hide this? Why not just ad an update that the NYT is now reporting otherwise? Or make a note of their previous sources' claims?
Being spun by Obama's people isn't a moral failing. But it is a moral failing to then attempt to cover that up.
Hell, if the Page's "sources" are no longer willing to stand by their previous denials, then that is also newsworthy -- and should be reported. If they are still denying, that too is somewhat newsworthy (though less so, as it probably just means The Page's sources aren't as good as the NYT's or Drudge's).
Either way, I don't see what is gained by the Page pretending they never gave Drudge the Nelson "ha, ha" on this.
Well, I guess I do. The mainstream media is very insecure, and not at all happy about admitting that not only did Drudge get this right (which is bad enough) but that Drudge is now considered a far bigger news-platform by which to leak information than any MSM outlet.
Not really sure how dishonestly helps reverse this state of affairs, though.
Thanks to Brenn.
Related: Kaus on the media covering up for Edwards, when Edwards personally called them to not report the Rielle Hunter story out of respect for his cancer-stricken wife.
The story of the Edwards Coverup, which has only begun to trickle out, is certainly providing a useful civic education in how powerful pols actually go about attempting to influence the MSM. It's one of those situations where unsophisticated people probably think the candidate himself calls the top editor directly to baldly influence coverage, while more sophisticated people know there are institutional procedures in place to protect against that sort of crude personal lobbying. Meanwhile, the really sophisticated people know the candidate himself calls the top editor directly to baldly influence coverage.
The media wishes us to take their every word as verified and true, and yet when their own dealings and decisions are questioned, it's nothing but defensive dishonesty.
Why would the public believe the media about Barack Obama or John McCain when they can't even report accurately or honestly about a subject they know firsthand-- themselves?

The reason to hide failures, is exactly the reason you describe.
Unnamed Sources are no longer trustworthy, because NOW! after the left required an assault on unnamed sources, Unnamed sources are no longer willing to verify, because hey don't want to be chased into the stocks like others.

My initial reaction to Biden being the Democratic Veep candidate is gales of laughter. Especially so if Lieberman ends up being McCain's choice.
Lieberman would *completely* neutralize Biden.
Plus a Lieberman/Biden debate without the usual Senate "The Gentleman from Delaware/Connecticut" stuff would be wicked-awesome.
As for the Evangelicals? Speaking as a liturgical protestant, choir-singing, fill-in Sunday School teacher Person of Faith ... have faith!
It's the Veep slot.

MEMO to John Edwards:
"out of respect for his cancer-stricken wife."
Uh, dude - perhaps next time you shouldn't be boinking some video producer skank you're paying a hundred grand to out of respect for your cancer-stricken wife.
Also, use a condom - save bundles on child support.

People, people, people. The MSM doesn't bother with these things you call 'facts' anymore. It's editorial 24/7. It was their opinion that that Edwards humping some new age ding-a-ling while his wife was out on his campaign trail and fighting cancer just wasn't important. The good news here is that Johnboy is hetero and likes to ride bareback. There are more important things to report on.
Right now they are busy covering for Obama's atrocious performance answering questions that wern't screened ahead of time. Jeez, doesn't that religous nut know that information on the world stage comes at the president in teaspoon size increments that can be analyzed and later spoken about (with a telepromter) at a later date.
You have to be reasonable people.

I'm glad you posted this. It was really funny to read the comments yesterday. So many of their readers were saying "ha! ha! drudge is wrong again". All I could think is for whatever his faults are, drudge seems to get it right a lot more than nyt or abc.

Don't they all behave like little childish Andi Sullivans, if you know what I mean...
They are children, we all behaved the same when we were around 6 or 7. We get caught doing something bad and we would do the same thing, try to pretend we didn't do anything wrong.
But these are wonderful, marvelous people, of course, they know a lot of wonderful other marvelous people.
As I suspected, the stories the cover or don't depends on editiorial decisions being talked over in meetings.
So the opposite of the Edwards shit happens when it is a story they *want* to cover, like Larry Craig, Mark Foley, Trent Lott, Newt, Cheney's daughter...
Remember that bearded turd Blitzer asking a bitchy question to Cheney about his daughter, then laughingly trying to tell him that they all cared about her?
You think that question wasn't discussed at a meeting with many editors and producers and whatever else worthless smug prick?
At the end of they day, realistically, what they do matters not to anybody, they just move words around. They are certainly expendable, sort of like when NBC did a football game without announcers.
But if the government all of a sudden needed a media branch for propaganda, then they would certainly have Jobs for Life.
Hmmm.

I'm glad you put this up, Ace, but it doesn't surprise me anymore. The dinosaur
news media has been infected with an overarching bias for decades, it
is just more obvious now that alternative news sources are available. It wasn't
just what and how they reported, it was also what they chose to report and what they chose to ignore. Then along came "fake but accurate" and from there it
has been downhill fast. At one time, the major news outlets at least pretended to
be unbiased but now they don't even bother.
Much of the dinosaur media is on a slippery slope to becoming nothing more
than rack stuffing. They have no one to blame but themselves.

Oh, wait, not everyone remembers that - because the MSM buried the story.
