— Dave in Texas The family of Sgt. Keith Matthew Maupin was informed today by the United States Army that the remains of their son have been recovered and identified through DNA testing.
BATAVIA, Ohio (AP) - The father of Matt Maupin, a soldier listed as missing-captured in Iraq since 2004 said today that the military had informed him that his son's remains were found in Iraq. Keith Maupin said at a news conference in suburban Cincinnati that an Army general told him DNA testing had identified the remains of his son, Sgt. Keith Matthew Maupin, or "Matt" as he was commonly known.
Sgt. Maupin was captured almost four years ago in an ambush west of Baghdad. He was a graduate of Glen Este High School, near Cincinnati, and was a student at the University of Cincinnati when he joined the Army Reserves.
Words fail. They just do. I wish I could find some, something. Instead I just grieve with his family, and pray for their healing from such a difficult ordeal, and their painful loss.

When I saw this post the sidebar on how "Stop Loss" has flopped caught my eye.
The day that SSG Maupin was captured, PFC Jeremy Church distinguished himself by fighting through the ambush and rescuing many of those trapped in the kill zone. Details can be found at http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0KAB/is_1_51/ai_n15379258
I guess where I'm going with this is that Hollywood doesn't seem inclined to make a movie about Maupin's murder (or the murders of other GIs who have fallen into enemy hands) or the heroics of men like PFC Church. I wonder if any such film will ever be made.
When United 93 came out close friends told me that it was too soon to relive the experience. Last year the dominant sentiment seemed to be that it was time to move on. Did I miss the 15 minutes when it was acceptable to remember 9/11?
War is difficult and dangerous-the President should have emphasized this at every opportunity. Now that we seem to almost have victory in hand few seem inclined to bear any further sacrifice or place the sacrifice that has already occurred in honorable context. The Oprah ethic that dominates our society can't elevate these soldiers to any higher status than victim. It drives me to distraction.

"Where do we find such men?" is hardly a new question. Think Bridges of Toko-Ri. I'm sure it was asked long before that.
When I was a recruiter for the Army, I was often frustrated by many of the young men and women I attempted to recruit. More often, I was impressed as hell. The kids are allright.

The consolation, besides the fact that this Soldiers remains are finally home, is that a lot of the terrorist muslim animals who are responsible for this type of atrocity, are in hell without their 72 virgins.

You are so right about the "too early" crap. Don't despair about the society as a whole though, the media controls the news feeds carefully exaclty because they don't want to "inflame" the people.
