— Dave in Texas Bureau of Land Management clears the way for explortion and drilling on almost 4 million acres in Alaska (not ANWR).
Here's the plum:
But the Bureau of Land Management, an agency within the US Department of the Interior, said the Alaskan land that will now be offered requires no other approvals and will be up for leasing in the autumn.
Note that the area was approved for exploration decades ago, but lawsuits from environmentalist groups held it up. Keep that in mind whenever you hear Democrats cry that the oil companies aren't exploring on the (pick your number, it changes) 58, 68 or 104 million acres they have now.
It's not just about the economics of where to invest money to explore, "setting aside the land" isn't the end of the process. Marxist Environmental groups have been given standing in Federal courts to sue to block everything, and they do.
The public is becoming more informed on this, obviously because of the pain they're feeling at the pump. Republicans have started turning the amps up to eleven, but they're not there yet, and if they don't keep up the pressure, the Dems could outflank em. Some of them are already starting to figure out their past positions are becoming politically untenable.

I so-called WASP girl was the victim of a racially motivate HATE CRIME in New York City yesterday. She was attacked by a gang of black teens for wearing a t-shirt by Jewish designer reading: Obama is my slave. The story is presented not as a HATE CRIME but as one about the poor designer being sued!!!! There is no mention of the horror or the element of racism or hate crime. The victim, because she is "white" (whatever that is) is told she should have thought about it. I'm sure if a black kid was attacked for wearing an inflamatory shirt about McCain it would have made the evening news.

There is a long road ahead. Eco-nazi's are currently suing over beluga whales, seals, walrus, and sea birds. If they succeed, it will have the same impact as the polar bear ruling, which our state is currently counter-suing.

I have a feeling Greenpeace and the Sierra Club are about to find out how much the Dems value power over principles.
They're already wishing Gore would ixnay on the obalwarming-gley imatechange-cley right now.

Woot! Go Alaska!
Some Dude, by all means, give us gory details. We need more fuel for the huge-ass More Gas fire that is currently burning under Congress's collective ass

Meh,
This means nothing the DHimmi's are just blocking until the NOV elections, they know they have a good shot at taking the White house and getting a filibuster proof majority in the Senate after that they will ignore this because once they kill the economy voters will be dependant on the government handouts.

Thanks Bush. Glad you screwed us on drilling until your party could get some political points for opening it up. Now wait for congress and judges to screw it up.
If he had done this and more on 9/12/01 when he should have, we would have oil flowing or a really big stick to beat obstructionist Dems to death with.

Opening up this area for exploitation by Big Oil is tantamount to a hate crime.
A hate crime against wildlife, like baby deer and little froggies.
It's not about destroying the US economy, at all.

rather easy to see from the other comments as well that this post is well written
and useful.
